Hi everyone, I ran a quick search to see if I could find anything on TL about this, but didn't come up with anything. Therefore, I would like to make everyone aware of what potentially could be the greatest new series to grace my television. Star Wars might be making its way to the small screen as a live action series.
I found this information initially on Wikipedia. It appears as though there is an untitled live-action series on the way, but at this point in time is being held up due to budgetary concerns.
According to Lucas in a 2011 interview, the series is currently on hold until there is a more cost effective way of shooting the series. In June, McCallum, who would produce the series, elaborated on this, contrasting the high production costs of the series with current developments in TV production, saying "we’re not really sure that in five years’ time we can release a dramatic one-hour episode because it is all reality TV now."
From what I've been able to find (sources to follow), the series would be set between Revenge of the Sith (Ep3) and A New Hope (Ep4) to fill that 20 year gap between the two. The focus will not be on the main characters of the films, but the creators do intend to stay true to their visual style and production values.
Producer Rick McCallum has noted that "it is going to be much darker, much grittier, and it's much more character-based" and "it is like The Godfather; it’s the Empire slowly building up its power base around the galaxy, what happens in Coruscant, which is the major capital, and it’s [about] a group of underground bosses who live there and control drugs, prostitution.”

I'm personally quite excited to hear more news about this. What does everyone else think? Could this make it as a series, will it bomb before it even gets to production, or do you see it going the same way as most current Sci-Fi TV shows (cancelled after a season or two)? I'm not sure how I feel about a grittier Star Wars universe. They tried that with SG:U and look where that ended up...
Speculation McCallum had also mentioned something about Bounty Hunters. With the cancellation of a book by Karen Traviss which also supposedly had something to do with Bounty Hunters, could we possibly see Boba Fett as a main character? |

Sounds pretty awesome so far
"it is going to be much darker, much grittier, and it's much more character-based" and "it is like The Godfather
This gives me faith, from this I assume it won't be as dire as Episodes II & III. |

I've heard about this maybe 2 or 3 years ago already. I just wish they were actually doing something with it, and not put it on hold for 3 or 5 more years. |

| One thing to note is that we likely won't see much in the way of Jedi, or The Force, due to the majority of the Jedi being taken out by Vader/Palpatine. How do you guys think it will play out? |

| Would this make an awesome TV Series? Fuck yeah. But, I am sort of speculative on what TV Station would pick this up? I sure as hell hope it isn't fox.. considering the last big cult sci-fi series (Firefly) never even got a 2nd season.. :/ maybe HBO? :O |

Why would HBO polute it's line up with Star Wars?
No seriously the franchise hasn't produced anything of real value for decades now. It's a poluted brand that only generates the most boring and cliche of stories.
Wich is sad because it could be so much more. |

^^ I loved Episode III. It still makes me cry if I'm feeling emotional enough. But that's because I grew up with the prequels so my "Star Wars Childhood" ended up being with Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor, Lucas's shitty storytelling be damned.
But I would love to see this. Just comparing the prequels, III was obviously the darkest of the lot and it got a lot more positive reviews than the first two (80% in III to 57% in I), so going for a gritty Godfather-type story might actually give it some leverage.
There's a lot to work with in the middle of Episodes III and IV, the problem with the prequels is everyone already knew how it would end, whereas with an aspect that is pretty much untouched, the underground of Coruscant, I think it's got a lot of potential.
Do want :D |

| They haven't even done casting yet and they've announced this like forever ago. George Lucas delays things a lot so who knows really when this will come out lol. However, it does sounds really cool and I'm looking forward to it when it does. |

George Lucas is the film making equivalent of blizzard, it will arrive when its ready. I'm also pretty sure Lucas has the trademark on "soon" |

small resistance groups forming up, empire growing stronger, lot's of rebel alliance forming up and getting beat down, some bad ass rebels and bad guys, mostly blaster lazer action. Some really cool scenery, space fights etc.
I doubt it's gonna happen to be honest just sounds like a cool idea. |
