The fact the UN came in and administered a nonmember state (british owned, wut?), accept one side as a state and still refuse the other, and still refuse to stage a major operation to intervene in the long standing conflict, is the most hypocritical piece of bullshit I've ever known in this world. The UN came up with the fucked up partition plan that started all this and it should be the UN to solve it.

This a very interesting development, a sneak-peak into the heads of state of France/America about netanyahu.......

The private conversation was inadvertently carried by open microphones before an Obama-Sarkozy news conference on the sidelines of the Group of 20 economic summit in the French resort of Cannes. Its contents were first reported by the French website Arret Sur Images, which said reporters heard Sarkozy's comments in French and Obama's reply through a translator.
"I can't stand him. He's a liar," Sarkozy said of Netanyahu, according to the website.
Obama replied, "You're tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day," the site reported.
Arret Sur Images ("Freeze Frame") said journalists had listened in on the conversation but had agreed not to report it. The Reuters and Associated Press news services confirmed that report Tuesday.
"We didn't record it, and to use it would force us to admit that we had cheated," Arret Sur Images quoted one of the reporters who heard the conversation, whom it did not name. "Also, it would have caused great problems for the people responsible for the event's organization."

I am not sure how the public opinion in USA sees this but unfortunately USA and Obama are in a shitty situation that they can't get out of. It's quite simple, if Obama (as representing the USA) speaks for Palestine and against the immediate interest of Israel he can say good-bye to a second mandate as a president and if Obama follows Israel's interest and against Palestine the hate of foreigners against USA will increase.
So Obama is pretty much in a lose-lose situation. USA's image has deteriorated so much in the last decades that i don't even know if it's worth saving it. |

Maybe you are underestimating how important image is. One thing you need to learn is no country can survive solely on its own, ussr already tried that and didn't work.
So it's blackmailing the UN right? Either do it our way, with no care about over 100 countries in the world voted or we act like a spoiled child taking our toys and going back home (and of course, you have serious backing... a law!). |

To clarify my comment, the US doesn't make policy on "image" no matter how many people wish it to be so. In fact there are a number of historical contexts where policy is made against "image." The argument is extremely shaky. |

Anti-semitism is racism against jewish people, the jewdom is marked by ethnicity and not religion in this. Anti-judaism is racism against jews based on their religion, not their ethnicity. If jews convert to christianity anti-judaism stops, anti-semitism doesn't because they're still ethnic jews.
The fact that Arabs are semitic too, and that all languages spoken in the area are semitic is unimportant, because Anti-semitism has a very special and defined meaning. |

He wrote that anti-semitism is towards arabs and jews, which is not true. Arabs are semitic people too, but they are not targeted by anti-semitism.

No, that's called deterrence - and it's the opposite of 'being childish', it's the rational application of a threat to prevent an act that is against your national interest. It's the same as saying 'hit me or any of my friends and I will hit you back with unparalleled force'. Having a law to ensure that this happens simply adds credibility to the threat - it's not even ambiguous what sort of result will ensue from taking an action.
International politics are based on self-interest and power more than anything else. |

Her Highness has called upon all partners to join her in this initiative given the challenges ahead, four years short of the 2015 target date for achieving the Millennium Development Goals, and following the commitment made by the Heads of States at the MDG Summit in New York in 2010. That's dumb. UNESCO is an international non-political organism that does not serve one's interest.
You say it's rational, and got me smiling. How rational is it that they did nothing to prevent UNESCO from adding Palestine but their withdrawal upset a lot of people and will probably lead to an effect directly opposite of what they tried.
So USA can push their interest in UN (view UN as a discussion table) over others, but when you're interests are being affected you just leave the "table". Way to do negotiations. Next Russia will give a law that says they will not finance/take part in any UN affiliated organization that ever says something bad about them, then China... and then you have a totally censored UN or an UN (again, view it as a discussion table) without Russia and China.
