Hi everyone,

I'm Ryan, one of the founders of Playhem. I'm sorry if the following is sloppy and disorganized -- It's after 3am and was just woken up to my phone pinging with all of the complaint emails we've received due to this incident. However, I think its imperative that I address this immediately.

First and foremost, I must express my sincerest apologies to Dragon, his fans, and our stream viewers that were subject to the distaste apparent in our broadcast tonight. There are no excuses for such behavior, intentions included. However, being a strong believer in the adage, "actions speak louder than words," I'd like to extend an offer to Dragon, and indirectly to his fans, in an attempt to make amends. If his schedule permits, it would be our pleasure to sponsor Dragon at IPL 4 in Vegas -- player pass, hotel, and flight included. We would love for him to represent Playhem at the event, but understand if his preference is otherwise. The offer stands regardless. I can't read or write Korean, so if someone who does would be kind enough to help me contact and communicate with him, please email me at rdesanto@playhem.com.

Over the past year we have found our home in the Starcraft 2 community, for which we are proud and grateful. Without the daily support our players and fans, we would cease to exist. I will admit, this situation was handled improperly, and my apology probably too late. And so, I understand if you ignore my appeal, but please do not let the actions of an individual be representative of Playhem as a whole. All-in-all there are nearly 30 of us who wake up every morning and work into the hours of night with the singular goal of making Playhem something special. If everyone can take a step back from what transpired tonight, I think our true intentions are clear. We are committed to providing quality entertainment to the e-sports community, players of all skills and spectators alike. We <3 e-sports and all those involved, wanting nothing more than to continue showing our support in any way we can.

That said, I do not know what the fair punishment is, yet. I will ask, if a reformed player previously fallen from grace deserves redemption, should a caster not as well? I suppose Katu holds the answer to this question, but ultimately you, the community, will be the judge.

Unfortunately, my role in Playhem distances me from our day to day operations and an active involvement in the e-sports community. Between leading a team of 20 developers, heading up business development, fundraising, and everything else that comes with running a start-up, I'm left with little time to engage in a passion that was the catalyst for founding this company. What's even more unfortunate, is that an event of this nature is what brings me back. I'm truly sorry that any of this happened.

Wow, best possible reaction. How to turn a shit incident that made you look bad into an opportunity to be awesome!

EDIT: regarding Katu's future in Playhem, I sure hope he won't ever cast a single game again, his attitude was really disgusting, and it's not like he was a great caster in the first place. He said he was "proud" of himself when people on the chat got mad at him. He's proud oh himself? Good for him, but if I was hiss boss I wouldn't be proud of him and I would straigt up kick him out

People rae very, very good at wielding pitchforks it seems. Kudos to playhem for being on the ball with their PR, but I find it frankly incredible how fast people are at jumping on the drama-bandwagon.

So there's no confusion, my comment about retribution was not meant to indicate favor in either direction. It was more a theoretical proposition that probably did not belong in my post to begin with. That said, its probably best not to leave this open ended. I can assure everyone that Katu will no longer be a representative of Playhem, and seemingly shouldn't have been for some time.

i can't also help but feel that this is very much like the witchhunt that took place concerning Russel Brand and Jonathan Ross at the BBC. A few people complaine about something they said on the radio and after a week 30k complaints rolled in to the BBC of people that had nothing to do with the incident and to whom this is of no concern. I'm going to venture a guess that about 5% of the people in this thread actually are in any way offended by any of this and the remaining 95% love riding the bandwagon.

Obviously what he did was wrong, but the hatred is quite something else...

To be biased and a little ignorant, a demonstration of remorse from Katu would be a good start (not sure if he already apologised). Playhem has surely shown it's attitude towards the situation yet we haven't even seen Katu's apology or if he even thinks he should be apologising. Until he has shown growth has a caster and person from this event, I believe he needs to be at least suspended from the Playhem casting team.

edit: nvm

I can assure everyone that Katu will no longer be a representative of Playhem, and seemingly shouldn't have been for some time.

Really great move from playhem, appreciate it a lot! As far as Katu goes he should be recieving some punishment, maybe 3-6months stop casting? I think kicking him forever is too harsh considering the dragon move.

i'm glad to see this is finally being done. Obviously it's not the best circumstances for it to happen but good riddance.

HUGE HUGE HUGE respect for you to making the offer you mentioned and getting rid of Katu on such short notice. Will be watching playhem more often than before

My previous attempts at rationality seems to have eluded many.
Let me try another perspective.
When anyone from an organization screws up, they can either make amends or cut all relationship with the person who screwed up. Playhem could have gotten rid of Katu and hope Dragon isn't affected too much by what happened and the viewers will return. It wouldn't make very much sense to both remove Katu and pay for Dragon's trip to IPL4.
If the community doesn't accept this as a sufficient means of correcting mistakes, in the future any mistakes will be dealt with by only remove the person at fault and no compensation to those who might have been hurt.

While being grateful to playhem, we are indirectly saying we don't really appreciate this and only want blood.
Not sure how relevant this is, but this makes me think of Roman Colosseum. People would prefer tax money go to blood, gore and death, rather than infrastructure, security and progress. Mistakes will be made, but rather than improving one persons life, we prefer to see someone's life ruined, regardless of what is justified or fair. And to reiterate myself, we can't always have both.

Edit: Well it appears Katu has basically been cut already, so this is simply the reality we have to live with. It certainly was quite arrogant of me to think that my post could change the mentality of a community.

Dragon is a troll, but he doesn't cheat and the trolling is in his gameplay, not his bm toward opponents etc.
