I like the resurrection of all these oldschool games with new graphics and little or no cost to play (Mechwarrior, Tribes, Counter Strike). It's free to play so I'm definitely going to at least try it out. Can't wait.

What do you think for the logo? Tried to stay true to Eridani Light Horse as much as possible, while making it obviously Liquid`

Back in the day (MW4 scene) I was top 5 cougar pilot. No cougars for at least a year, and I hate the jenner... So I guess I'll start with the hunchie! Please tell something about that old scene, i grew up loving MW3 and MW4, also the Mech Commander games, but i never had Internet, so i just played the campaigns and some deathmatch games against my father, who wasn't quite on the same level. So please tell, was there something like a ladder system, how was it played, did players only choose the biggest firepower mechs, what was typical weaponry (Did people love ppcs like i did?)

Looks great! Does the mane from the TL logo not fit well though?

I wrote a huge post and then my comp froze.
Basically, you'd probably be surprised at the weapon choices. LL were more common than ERLL on Urban maps for the lower heat, PPCs popular due to faster recycle than ERPPCs, only viable scout mechs were raven and uller (and my cougar but I made a habit of playing weird things). Only viable assault mech is Sunder. Thanatos super popular.
As for me personally, I made a name doing weird things. I say top5 cougar but really I was the best one because no one else played him lol. We had a troll build where I'd go Narc/Flaregun Cougar, maxed speed armor and JJs. Servers were forced 1st person view, so when I flared your cockpit you were blind. And then the narc called in the rain.
But for real builds, I played bully scout (find and kill the enemy scout, get recon of my own) with a Cougar loaded with Med X-Pulse lasers. Absolutely wreck kids in ravens or ullers. Maxed Speed, Maxed Armor, and the X-Pulse meant I kept dishing out damage even when the melee was on. So satisfying to core an assault with a 35 tonner.
I also played super sniper Uziel. 2 LG, plenty of ammo, max speed, JJ, Armor. Theres actually a really good story behind this mech.
We were playing on Dustbowl, a huge, wide open desert map. OPFOR was stationed about 1500m away. Foward lance (medium pokers - think PPC cats and AC2 Bushwhackers) were about 500m in front of me. Recon was out to the left, and had found no one there, so we sent forward lance to flank left and Hammer to move up the middle. Keep in mind that Dustbowl is wiiiiide open. Hammer lance had traded out their normal LBX10s for AC5s, but they still had to close to 600m. The plan was to have Forward distract them while Hammer went passive and charged in. Myself and Havok (our missile expert in the catapult) would support from the rear. At this point, I'd already sniped their recon raven, so they're down 35 tons.
So, Forward Lance engages, and pulls their attention. As they turn to engage, Hammer charges. Everything is going to plan. But our captain tells everyone to check their radar, because they aren't acting like they should be. Something's up. They aren't just responding to Forward lance, they've turned and full-on engaged. And we only counted ~400 tons out of the drop limit of 575 (our commander was really good at doing the math on the fly).
The first we know of it is when Havok gets slammed to the ground. As I turn around, I see them. A UAC20 Shadowcat and an LBX10/MedLaser Mauler. They'd walked, in passive, the entire way around the map to sneak up behind us. These mechs made no sense on this map. Remember, Dustbowl is wiiiiide open, and these guys were packing a maximum range of 450 meters, and an effective range of 250. If we'd caught them ever, they'd be dead. But we hadn't, and now our support was getting destroyed. We didn't really have a choice; if we ran away, forward lance would get destroyed, and the shadowcat could still catch and kill us. So, we turned on them. Havok dumb-fired all his LRMs into the Cat, and combined with 2 Light gauss slugs, got him low. Havok was really weak at this point as well though, so (with incredibly thinking and counter to every instinct), he charged the cat. The 'Cat was smart, but his buddy was not. The mauler cored him, and the resulting explosion downed the cat as well.
Now its just me vs a Mauler. He's got 40 tons on me, double or more of my armor, and his weapons are designed for infighting. Its moments like this that you find out what kind of pilot you really are. For me, the choice was obvious. Time to go all in.
I charged in, firing both gauss then cutting a hard reverse twist right as I jumped. What this did was let me fly right over him and come down facing him, and I got two shots into his rear. I circled him as he tried to twist, and kept hammering at him as fast as my gauss would recycle. He cut a hard reverse twist of his own and managed to hit me with the LBX10s, rocking me off my aim completely and sending two slugs into the dirt. I charged and did my leapfrog maneuver again, Maulers have the second highest armor in the game, I knew I wasn't going to be able to beat him in a straight up fight. But I could win if I hit him in the rear armor.
We kept trading. By this point I'd lost both arms, and my torso we blinking. I was lucky my LGs weren't destroyed yet. I went for a leapfrog again, but he'd wised up. He backed up and I ended up kicking him in the face instead of jumping him, and got slammed hard, but somehow stayed upright. At this point, we're both blinking red in several places, and I slam reverse and coolant flush to act as a smokescreen, and then Jump. This was a tactic my buddies and I joked about while derping around in practice. Apparently it works, because I get shot in my right leg (which was only yellow prior to this), and I fire my LGs through the flush, into his CT, and pick up the most incredibly kill I've ever gotten.
I have 5 shots of LG ammo left. I turn to see what has happened to my lance. Forward lance fell back from OPFOR, but was aggressively chased. Hammer slammed into the OPFOR Support lance, who were expecting help from their flanker pair. So, as OPFor's main body chased Forward Lance, Hammer came from behind and absolutely wrecked them. I threw a couple LGs into the mix, but for the most part the battle was won. Their 275 tons of the Main lance were caught between our 360 ton combined Forward and Hammer in a wide open map. GG.
This is one of those stories that sounds too good to be true. But its also one of those things that you just can't make up.
Anyways, this has turned into a massive post again. So hope you enjoyed this taste from the past!

What was your unit, iGrok?
Got to say I was skeptical when you introduced yourself as "top 5 cougar", since I've found most people who say that turn out to be pub jockeys or NHUA/3pv noobs. That sounds like a real drop though.

Great post iGrok, got me a lot more excited for MWO. Personally I haven't played much of the MW series but I was a big fan of Mechcommander 1/Gold which really drew me into the setting and style of the games.

How have I not heard of this before?
Looks awesome, never played MW multiplayer before, but I've always been keen to try!

I only played the Mechwarrior RTSs and im impressed by MW4: Mercs , thanks for the link , ill enjoy this game.

Gosh, I remember loving Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries when I was like 10 or so. Can't wait for this to finally start.

iGrok that story is AMAZING! I only ever played the mechwarrior games singleplayer (except Living Legends, which is tons of fun but I'm not great at it). I wish I could play such a tactical scenario like you describe. I guess when Online comes out I'll try to get more involved in the community and look for groups to join. That sounds way too fun

Just to be clear in case anyone's confused, MW4 (the one skeldark linked) is the last game, which is about 10 years old.
MWO is the newest installment in the franchise, which is due to be released in the next few months.

Impervious of the 331st Royal BattleMech Division. We played in Vengeance League a bit (so many poptarts), and a couple other leagues (I never payed attention, I just showed up when/where GdawG called me lol), but since we were really all just friends, what we'd do is just call out high ranking teams on the various ladders. We never did very well in leagues, but in a Bo3 575T Drop specifically, we had like an 90% win rate. 575 was our sweet spot for sure, because we had our comps down pat.
Alpha Company (Standard) Hammer Lance GdawG[331] - Thanatos RedGlo[331] - Thor Rakka[331] - Thor IndieX[331] - Thor
Forward Lance Poke Feelix[331] - ShadowCat Flash[331] - Bushwhacker (No, not the same flash) Recon NeuterD[331] - Raven Impervious[331] - Cougar (Bully cougar ftw)
Support Lance Havok[331] - Catapult Syrus[331] - Ryoken (both LRMs and ERLL)
Gamma Company (Open) (We didn't like the word Beta lol) Hammer Lance GdawG[331] - Thanatos RedGlo[331] - Thor Rakka[331] - Thor IndieX[331] - Thor
Forward Lance Poke Feelix[331] - ShadowCat Syrus[331] - ShadowCat Flash[331] - Bushwhacker Recon NeuterD[331] - Uller
Support Lance Havok[331] - Catapult Impervious[331] - Uziel
Delta Company (Urban) Hammer Lance GdawG[331] - Thanatos RedGlo[331] - Thanatos Rakka[331] - Thanatos (what can I say, they were really good in urban lol) IndieX[331] - Awesome
Striker Lance Feelix[331] - ShadowCat Flash[331] - ShadowCat Havok[331] - ShadowCat NeuterD[331] - Raven
Air Lance Impervious[331] - Uziel Syrus[331] - Uziel
When Black Knight came out, Havok would sit out Urban matches (He was by far our weakest player when he wasn't in a Catapult) and we upgraded the 3 Thanatos to Sunders. Air Lance got on top of the buildings and sniped with ISPPCs and AC2s, getting intel on where to aim from NeuterD. I used to know every street on Inner City... its been quite a while.
