It displays an error message in dos that says illegal partition table - drive 01 sector 0.
I just built this computer yesterday using parts from newegg and the hard drive from bestbuy (seagate barracuda 500MB). I returned the hardrive, thinking the partition table had something to do with the harddrive, and got a new one.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

The partition table does have something to do with the HDD. If you already been through two HDDs and are still receiving the error, it's likely a bad controller on the motherboard - in which case you'll need to return the motherboard. Remember that you'll want to be using the Intel SATA ports, not the third party ports.

Did you install an OS? Mobo drivers? More information please
|
I didn't install any OS or mobo drivers. It's an asrock z68 extreme3 gen3 mobo. when I try and load it up, I'm asked to insert a floppy disk. I dont have a usb floppy disk drive, nor do i own any floppy disks. is there a way I can get around having to use a floppy?
|
I have the cd drive hooked up, and the boot disk is IN the drive. I've gone to the bios and tried every single drive to load a boot disk from, and nothing i do will change it's request to have me insert a diskette.
|
Well..if it doesnt boot from your cd when you put dvd first in boot order list, then your mobo likely has a problem.
|
|
Have you tried to boot from an USB key/ flash the bios?
|
Is RAID enabled? That may explain it prompting for a floppy disk at startup (to load the RAID drivers).
Check the BIOS for that but also check to see if your mobo has a RAID switch on it. Some do and yours might (I am not familiar with your mobo). Either way make sure RAID is off/disabled.
Hope that helps.

Use an OS installation CD or DVD that doesn't use that Nero boot loader, as it seems to have a compatibility problem here. Real Windows disks (or those burnt from original ISOs) don't use it, and I doubt Linux boot disks do either.
|
What OS are you trying to install? And what "boot disc in the cd drive" are you referring to above (something home made)? Also, from the screenshot it seems like there's an error with the boot loader or maybe your HDD is not found. It only lists a 15 MB drive (the boot-loader itself I assume).

Hello there! It seems like this thread has gone unanswered. I am extremely interested in it as I am really trying to build my firsst computer and it is coming up with the same answer "illegal partition table". It seems like I am so close to the end yet so far.Just to let you know I have a AsRock Extreme4 MoBo. I also have an SSD and a Seagate 500GB HDD. It comes up with the same screen and only 15MB drive.
Any help would be awesome Ta, Schnaps

Guys. Seems like a recurring problem with asrock. I just spent 4 hours with the same issue. Went through 2 different SSD drives and I don't think both SSD are the issue unless I'm one unlucky bastard. Going to return the z77 on the weekend and hopefully get a better MB

Did you try explicitly setting UEFI or legacy boot mode instead of letting the motherboard decide by itself what it thinks it should do? One is the disk's partitions set up as GPT, the other as MBR.
