Very nice and all, but with the scheduling MLG behaves like a bull in a china shop. Who cares whoever has some big events planned that time, players will come to us and people will watch us. I don't like the style of muscling the competition out of the way, this could've been easily avoided with sufficient communication between organizations but it seems like MLG is not really interested in that.
It really sucks that we'll have player pool and audience split once again among two big tournaments, I can't even stress that enough. People put a lot of effort in this, plan everything months before and then we as an audience don't get the complete/full experience because there's another event popping up that waves money around to attract players. |

| This season format seems like a good idea. For sure, with only 8 players guaranteeing invites to the next event we won't have the stagnant pool of top-point earners like last season. On the other hand, I'm sad the NYC Winter Arena doesn't have a live viewing component. MLG had better host a Championship tournament here this year at some point. |

Interesting that they choose not to play HotS, safe considering the balance by Blizzard so far. |

| No audience at the Arena events I believe is a mistake. Even if you have 50 people in a small studio it would be better. The audience is what builds a lot of the hype for these events and what ultimately sets them apart. Hopefully they find a way to fit in spectators in the future for the Arena events. |

I would assume the prize pool will be larger still for the Winter Championships but we'll see. It costs a lot to fly and accommodate 32 players. |

I actually like the decision to pay for the players. Even it it comes at the price of a smaller prize pool. Spreads the esports dollars around a bit more fairly instead of completely crutching on a 3day ironman tournament. |

MLG isn't as rich as you think they are and there are far more other costs to putting on a tourney of this scale than just the prize money. |

Hey everyone,
Excited to be able to talk about the start of the 2012 season FINALLY.
A quick comment on event conflicts. The MLG team has been planning the 2012 Pro Circuit season since the Fall of 2011. Unfortunately, our large scale events – such as the Winter Arena and Winter Championship in Columbus, have to be scheduled months and months in advance in order to secure large venues and execute a bracket that will provide a timely lead in to our championship events. We always do our best to avoid conflicts with other industry events, however, it simply wasn’t an option in this case.
This is the case with all event organizers, and unfortunately, by the time any of us (event organizers in general) find out where/when all the other events are, it's often too late to change gears.
Stay tuned for additional 2012 details.
Lee

But they haven't released the info for the rest of the prize money? |

they've only released the prize pool for the Winter Arena tournament, not the Winter Championship. While i can't say the Championship will have a higher prize pool, one can speculate with confidence.
