Q: For the first time you've risen to the Code S Round of 4. Thoughts?
A: It's only 1 round different from the Round of 8, but since it's the Round of 4 it feels completely different. I can't believe that if I win one more time I'll be in the finals. I think after I return to the team house and rejoice with my teammates it will feel real. [T/N kind of like “the feeling will sink in”]
Q: There are two cases of people making it all the way to the Round of 4 in their first Code S.
A: I wanted to do well like Ganzi in my first Code S. But honestly I didn't think I would do this well. Originally my goal was to make it to the Round of 8, but little by little my goal has gone higher and now I'm here. I think I continually get more ambitious.
Q: You could achieve the Starcraft 1 concept of Royal Roader.
A: Don't you only have one chance to be a Royal Roader? Of course I want to seize the chance for this. I will be really happy if I can achieve that.
Q: During your Starcraft 1 days, you weren't active in the individual leagues.
A: This is the first time I've done so well in individual leagues, so everything feels unfamiliar. It's my first time seizing one time chances and my first time receiving attention from people. But these are really good things, so it's not bad.
Q: You used a radical tactic in the first game.
A: To be honest my style isn't one that has to practice especially much because it does not focus on the keyboard and mouse. [T/N sorry hard to translate. It's not that he doesn't have to practice a lot, it's that the thing his style does not equal is something that increases the amount of necessary practice] Instead my style involves a lot of thought. I thought a lot as soon as I saw my Round of 8 opponent, but since I don't have a lot of experience in Best of X series I thought to come out strong starting from the early game. I thought that since the maps were difficult for the early game, if I had gotten shaken by my opponent and lost it would have been in vain. I tried to use a strategy where even if I lost in the first game, there would not be any fight over spirit. It was a strategy that hit me on the flight back to Korea from MLG.
Q: Which game was the hardest?
A: The game on Calm Before the Storm was the hardest. Because I thought that I was really disadvantaged. It seemed like MMA practiced well and I was flustered, so it was hard. Luckily I was able to win in a comeback with a final punch. I wanted to GG during the game, but I was glad that I didn't. I thought that MMA had a lot of minerals. So I tried to hold out until the end, and in that way the game became really difficult.
Q: In the fourth game, you lost to your opponent's timing rush in vain.
A: I did poorly so I lost. Even if I don't use harsh language, it was an adequate game. [T/N sorry unsure] I couldn't focus and I didn't think. It's something I will have to reflect on.
Q: In the final game 5, you started researching zealot charge right before the attack.
A: Initially I tried to be threatening. I tried to lure my opponent's forces with blink stalkers, but since he was protecting his base it would have been fine to fight. I knew charge would finish soon but I thought it was a good chance to attack.
Q: MMA was last season's winner. Is the feeling of defeating a champion special?
A: To be honest I'm not sure. I don't know why, but for some reason I wasn't intimidated by my opponent. Maybe it's because of my Starcraft 1 experience, but my opponent's style was not daunting. In Starcraft 1 as well, I wasn't anxious about any opponent and wanted to play people who were absolutely better than me. I thought that good players have a lot of information exposed about them, and even if I lost I wouldn't lose anything.
Q: Your next opponent is either Puzzle or Jjakji.
A: In terms of personal benefit, I want to play PvP. My PvP is good and I feel confident. But I don't think it matters much who advances. The outcome will be decided based on preparation.
Q: Anything else you want to say?
A: Our team's youngest player Leenock got first place in MLG. I really congratulate him. Since Leenock beat me and then won, I wonder whether he will buy me something when the prize money comes (laughs). I thank Razor and FXO for their support, and I thank my parents for cheering for me a lot. These days they haven't called me worrying much, but if I win the next games and advance to the finals I will definitely invite them. Oh, also, since I won, MC will be able to participate in the Blizzard Cup. While he jokingly pleaded for me to win, he didn't really help me much with my games (laughs). But still, since on the inside he rooted for me I thank him. Since his teamhouse is close, I hope that he will see this interview and contact me. I'll buy him some tasty things.

Q: You've succeeded in advancing to your career first Code S Round of 4. How do you feel?
A: I won more easily than I thought so I'm dazed. But I'm really happy. I want to try to rise to the highest position this season.
Q: The score was 3:0. Did you expect that?
A: Because my builds were tactical for the first and second games, I thought if I could take those two games I would win easily. I thought that if that happened, Puzzle would get intimidated mentally and the third game would go well. The games went according to this scenario so I am really happy.
Q: In the third game, you took a lot of damage to your SCV count, but your opponent typed GG.
A: I tried to practice for it, but it was hard for my build to stop a four gate. So I looked for advice and people said that I could stop it if I pulled workers. But the SCV loss was bigger than I thought so I was worried, but Puzzle typed GG so I was able to win.
Q: Did you personally think you were in a worse position in the third game?
A: Yes. I thought I was at a disadvantage. I think Puzzle's mental state was shaken so he typed GG easily. In my thoughts my victories in the first and second games would have an influence on the third game. The first and second games were on tactical maps so I tried that, and things turned out well.
Q: You showed an impressive form in the second game of not being stingy with bunkers.
A: I made a similar strategy, but yesterday morning I suddenly changed it. I practiced it today around midday and saw that it was alright. Originally I planned to get bunker upgrades, but since it was a broadcast game my hands didn't go to that. It was regrettable. I think if I had gotten the bunker upgrades, my opponent wouldn't have been able to break out and I would have won the psychological battle earlier.
Q: Your Round of 4 opponent has been decided. Again it's Protoss.
A: I think he is an easier opponent than Puzzle. If I practice hard I will be able to win. Since it's a best of X series, like today if I practice well for the first and second games, I think I could be able to win easily.
Q: Are you receiving a lot of support from your team lately?
A: No (laughs). It's the same as usual. But since now it's the Round of 4, I wonder whether they will help me a lot in practice. Since this week I bought meet, I think they will all eat that and help me.
Q: There is only a small distance from winning the tournament. What do you think your chances are?
A: First I think I can get to the finals. I think that if I get to the finals, MVP being my opponent would be hard and Leenock would be a good opponent.
Q: The feeling of being in the Round of 4 must be completely different.
A: It is. Won't I go to the finals if I win one more time? Somehow since I've gotten to the Round of 4 I feel more anxious. I think I will have to practice more to be able to get rid of the tension.
Q: Anything else you want to say?
A: I thank the Director, Banbanssuu, and San for observing my games in practice and correcting mistakes. I thank Startale Parting, CreatorPrime, and our team's Sage and Tassadar for their help in practice. During practice I got irritated with San, but because it was due to stress I hope he will take it lightly. I hope to have a good end to this season and rest well for the end of the year, and I want to thank my family and my girlfriend.
