Let's lighten up the mood here in General Forum, shall we. It seems to be the vilest section in TL - raped women, abusive soldiers, corrupt governments, religion bashing, war and terror, etc. Certainly, there is some good in this world, isn't there? Let me start.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2064173/The-mother-helped-300-families-afford-Thanksgiving-meal-blog-plea-help.html
Despite preparing her own Thanksgiving feast for over a dozen people, one mother in the U.S. has helped over 300 other families afford to celebrate the holiday too.
Jill Smokler, of Maryland, runs parenting blog Scary Mommy and after asking her followers to make donations through her site to help families in need, she helped raise over $18,000.
The mother-of-three asked readers to donate $25 to go towards supermarket gift cards for those who couldn’t afford food for Thanksgiving and over 600 respondents pitched it – providing dinner for 378 families.
Some readers donated more than $25, while others who couldn’t afford a large sum, offered $5 or as little as $1 to help make a difference.
Mrs Smokler’s plea came after she had been inspired by desperate messages posted on her blog.
One cash-strapped reader posted: ‘My Husband just lost his job. I have no idea how we are going to put food on the table.’
Smokler’s aim was to match two donors with each person who asked for help through her blog.
And after the amazing response, she told ABC: ‘I was really touched. I’ve alternated between feeling warm and fuzzy and glowing to just tearing up.’
The blogger, who is also the author of upcoming book ‘Confessions of a Scary Mommy’, said she organised donors to get in touch with the families they’ve helped.
And those helped by the fundraising left messages of thanks on Smokler’s site and Facebook page.
One ‘Scary Mommy’ fan wrote: ‘I just got a beautiful card with Walmart gift cards in it from the Clarke’s in Virginia.
‘Thank you from the bottom of my heart! My son and I will include you all in our Thanksgiving prayers.’
Thanksgiving in the U.S., which is celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of November, falls on the 24th of the month this year.

Best guy that lives in Norway (or one of the very best), is a guy named Aslam Ahsan, pakistani immigrant, that have for 22 years out of his own time and resources, arranged a christmas celebration for the lonely & elderly, with good food, gifts, christmas songs, etc - even though he isn't christian and doesn't celebrate christmas himself.

How many wells could you build in Africa for $10,000? How many vaccines or drugs could you give to those who need it for $10,000? If that number is more than 0, it is much more important than Americans celebrating the fact that they committed genocide on an entire race for their land. Bitter comment I know, but no flaws in it I'm afraid

A real woman she is unlike the others we meet at times in this world. Another story that makes my heart burst with energy!

For some reason such stories(plus the dog story) always seem quite unappealing to me. Maybe because I strongly believe that the people that are really worth mentioning about are the people who never get any exposure for certain reasons. Don't want to rain on your parace lol, just a general thought. Very nice of that lady. We need more people like that.

So a couple a hundred Americans can celebrate how good they got it even cheaper this year. I guess everything worked out great after all.

It's not the cold, it's actually the lack of oxygen at that altitude that's affecting his higher brain processes. Be kind to those in unfortunate circumstances.
