I think if the Wolves amnesty Darko, then the difference between his Wolves contract and the new one he signs is what counts to the cap.
So Darko's due 5 mill this season. If the Wolves amnesty him and say Miami pick him up at 2 mill a season. Then I think the difference (3 mill) is what counts against the cap.
There's a good chance I'm wrong, but I think I read that somewhere. I think that's how it works in relation to the cap. Not sure if it's the same for the salary floor though.

I'm a little skeptical how they can reduce contracts by over 10%, yet more teams have to pay money.
Unless the league makes much more income, even teams that have to spend more should get a refund due to the escrow. So even if they sign more contracts to make the minimum payroll, each contract should be reduced in face value.
And they raised the league minimum to appease the rich owners who didn't want to see the Donald Stirlings siphon off their revenue sharing while being cheap. |

They'd have $9 if they amnesty Darko and they'd save 15 million over 3 years.
a lot of teams are going to have to spend a LOT of money to reach that 85% of the cap figure. A lot more shitty contracts are on the way, stay tuned!
Actually, I was wrong. I think an amnestied player still counts towards the floor but not the cap. I don't remember I heard this but I think that that's right. So the Wolves can go ahead an amnesty Darko.
Yes that sounds like what I read as well. In any case hopefully some exciting stuff this week ^^ |

If you check out NBA.com's preview of Portland Blazers they talk about the amnesty clause and how it affects Brandon Roy, and they said something along the line of they'd pay the player, but it doesn't go towards the cap! |

That's a big if. If I were Oden I'd be trying to get as much money as I could before my 50-year old knees gave out. |

You'd have to be stupid to sign Oden. Nice guy and all and I wish him the best, but he's going to be one of those guys who will never be fit.
Everyone always says "If healthy, blah, blah, blah"--it isn't going to happen. Miami's better off taking a chance on someone like Brendan Haywood (if they can get a decent price) than signing Oden. |

He'd be way cheaper than Haywood. Haywood will probably get 8-12 million a year over 4 years. Oden is getting his qualifying offer from the Blazers but that's the equivalent of a 1 year deal at 9 million dollars. The most he'd get from the Heat is the mid-level for about 3 years which is about 15-18 million over 3 years. I'm not saying he's worth the risk, I think he's done as a basketball player, but he is still relatively cheap, considering the price of NBA talent.
EDIT: Oops, Haywood is only at 7.5 million. So Oden wouldn't be way cheaper, sorry. But he'd still be cheaper. But yeah, this makes Bob more right than me =PLast edit: 2011-12-06 08:47:04 |

The Heat don't need to take risks to win titles. They'd be risking losing titles if they took Oden.
Teams that face long odds at winning should be taking high risk/high reward strategies. |

Mami can't afford Oden so it doesn't matter anyway. Portland will easily match the 8.8 million offer. Miami doesn't NEED Oden either. They made it to the chip in a close series with only one player playing well.

If I was a fan of the team that eventually signs Oden, I'd be pretty downbeat about it. There's no denying the guy has talent, potential, etc, but he's got bung knees. He's always going to have major leg problems with one longer than the other. He can have all the talent in the world, but he can't keep up physically to make it in the NBA.
I hope I'm proven wrong and he stays healthy, but unless I'm getting a really good deal, guys like Oden just aren't worth it. |

Other than getting long in the tooth, nothing happened to him, he's a 6'0 player over 30. Small PG's wear down around this age with a couple exceptions (Nash, Stockton)Last edit: 2011-12-06 10:44:23 |
