+ Show Spoiler [1.4.6 information] +
We're staying on 1.4.5 for now while we wait for a few more stable builds of all the plugins we require. The issues I'm having with 1.4.6 are significant, with "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space" being the primary cause. I'm not sure what's causing it because we actually have fewer plugins now than we did on 1.4.5, so I expect it has something to do with the beta builds not being quite stable enough. With the amount of plugins that we run, it's usually better to wait a while before updating, lest this kind of stuff happens.

If you've updated to 1.4.6, you can revert by downloading the Liquestria Client and reinstalling that. Everything works fine, and I will be setting up some new plugins while we remain on 1.4.5 (such as the awesomely fun teleporter plugin).

1.4.5 is LIVE!
Latest optional Liquestria Client download

The .zip file above includes Mine Little Pony (in-game pony models mod), Zombe Fly mod,
Rei's Minimap, LnT: Liquestria (recommended texture pack), and client hotkeys, in one convenient package.
Installation instructions can be found later in this thread if you need them, but most of you know how to do it by now.

If you create a waypoint somewhere important, please write down the signature in THIS DOCUMENT

Important note: Mojang decided it's vitally important that we get fireworks for New Years, so there will be a version 1.4.6 some time before Christmas. If you want to play in Liquestria, stay on 1.4.5 until I give the go-ahead. It may be a few days before the plugin is ready.

Dec 05, 2012 - Liquestria Client Update

The Liquestria Client has been completed. This is an optional download which sets up some really cool features in your Minecraft client, designed with Liquestria in mind -- key bindings, commands, and added functionality for all classes!

      Features
  • Customizable key bindings for any in-game spell and command, ready to play
  • Rei's Minimap - a heavily customizable minimap mod
  • Mine Little Pony, the MLP models mod
  • Love & Tolerance: Liquestria, the customized Liquestria texture pack
  • Zombe Fly Mod, the fly mod of choice for our Pegasi, automatically inactive for other classes
  • LiteLoader, necessary to run the keybinding mod

It's the same process as always - just grab the .zip, and copy its contents into your .minecraft folder:

Download Liquestria Client Pack

+ Show Spoiler [Installation instructions] +
Installation instructions:

Note: If something goes wrong, you can easily recreate a clean installation of Minecraft. Simply start the Minecraft client, click on Options (above the name/password fields), and select "Force update". If you have plugins installed already and you want to make a backup of Minecraft before installing this, you probably already know how.

  • Download the LiquestriaClient.zip file and extract its contents anywhere
  • Start -> Run (on Windows 7, write in the "search programs and files" field)
  • Enter %APPDATA% into the field. This should take you to your Applications Data folder
  • Go to your Minecraft folder, probably located at AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
  • Copy the contents of LiquestriaClient.zip into this folder

That should just about do it. If you're having issues, post in the thread, or read the OP - there should be some more detailed installation instructions elsewhere in the OP. Alternatively, ask around, someone can usually help you.

      Liquestria key bindings

When you've installed the archive, launch Minecraft and join the server. Once you're in the game, press Backspace. This will bring up the macro menu, and you should see a keyboard view. Click on Config: Default Configuration in the upper right, then select your class from the menu. Once done, it will bring you back to the keyboard view. You can either start playing immediately with my default settings, or you can move the key bindings around as you please. It's highly customizable and intuitive, just look around.

Note: Some keys may not work if they overlap with key bindings you have already set in the game. In this case, just rebind the problem keys to something else.

Some macros require the use of a command key. By default, this button is C. When you press C on your keyboard, a green "OVR" bar should appear in the bottom left. This is used for two things:
  • To be able to bind functions to existing mouse buttons and keys, i.e. for Unicorns, holding C and pressing Mouse1 casts the Gatling Sparkle spell.
  • To be able to bind multiple spells or commands to one key, i.e. pressing H casts the hearth spell, while holding C and pressing H casts the heal spell

If you want to use my default settings, here's a quick legend:

+ Show Spoiler [Common] +

      Common keybindings for all classes

  • Z: Zoom the map/minimap
  • X: Open map screen

  • Numpad 4-5: Streetlights Plugin - see the features list in the OP for plugin information
    • Numpad 4: Begins streetlight lamp creation
    • Numpad 5: Begins streetlight removal process

  • Hold C + press number keys 1-8: Display various server help and news pages

The Alicorn config is a slightly modified combination of all three, and won't be of any interest or use to you.

The download is entirely optional, yet highly recommended. You can still play in Liquestria just fine without this download, but it adds a lot of fun functionality to our players!

      Rei's Minimap

This is a great little mod which adds a minimap to your upper right corner. Press Z to adjust zoom levels, and X to toggle a larger map. You can customize the look and utility of the minimap - press M to enter the plugin menu.

      Mine Little Pony

The pony models mod. This mod has reached incredible levels of awesome. In addition to the normal sized ponies, through advanced skinning options you can also be a filly, an Alicorn, and even a griffin. Highly recommended if you want to play in Liquestria.

      Love & Tolerance: Liquestria

Our "official" texture pack is a heavily modified version of the Love & Tolerance texture pack. Raelcun has done amazing work on this, and it's recommended if you want to see Liquestria like the rest of us do.

      Zombe fly mod

The Pegasi fly mod of choice. If you aren't a Pegasus, this function will simply be deactivated. Press F to toggle fly mode, Q and E to descend/ascend, and Shift to fly faster.

      Unicorn Spells Update

A few new spells have been added, and a lot of old spells have been altered or completely reworked. Mana costs have been generally lowered, mana regeneration has been increased, offensive spells have greatly increased in potency, and a few spells have been taken out and moved to the upcoming Zebra class.

The following is the complete updated list of spells:

Short list of recent changes:

+ Show Spoiler +

New spells:
  • Cone Of Cold - a powerful area of effect spell with good damage and decent range.
  • Enderchest - remotely access your Ender Chest
  • Energy Sphere - a massively powerful sphere of energy which costs a lot of mana
  • Gems - uses your magic to search for gems and ore
  • Life - draws magical energy from the world around you to regenerate mana more quickly
  • Mayhem - causes enemies to become confused and attack each other

Spell updates:
  • Gatling Sparkle - greatly increased damage and rate of fire, and decreased mana cost
  • Geyser - increased damage by 1 (up from 5 to 6)
  • Manipulate - increased range and decreased mana cost
  • Minor other changes that I don't remember off the top of my head

Removed spells:
  • Clarity - replaced with Life
  • Confuse - renamed Mayhem and given a slightly bigger radius
  • Lilywalk - was a variant of Frostwalk, now given to Zebras
  • Snowball - reworked into Cone Of Cold
  • Taunt - reworked into an aggro ability for Earth Ponies
  • Waterspring - removed and given to Zebras
  • Anything else not on this list that's missing, just assume that I removed them deliberately and for good reason

      New classes: Griffin and Zebra

      Griffin
  • Flying skills equal to Pegasi
  • Strong in a fight: Griffins deal more damage and take less damage in combat (+3, -1)
  • Chance to crit
  • Chance to heal in combat
  • Mighty combat roar which demoralizes monsters
  • Visually distinctive look*
Griffins will be a stronger variant of the Pegasus, but without the agility and deft air building. Unlike Pegasi, they cannot dye placed wool, conjure wool or carpet, or place blocks in mid-air.

*Only with advanced skin properties; requires user to upload custom skin

      Zebra
  • Master of alchemy
    • "Alchemy" power which uses spell power to help you harvest alchemical ingredients
    • Easily craft and use potions to acquire beneficial effects
    • Access to a Black Cauldron, which provides access to some wholly unique recipes
  • Hardy - slightly tougher than ponies in a fight, and takes slightly less damage (+1 and -1)
  • Adept at nature spells
  • Small backpack for extra inventory space

Zebra share many traits with Unicorns, including a few spells (such as lifewalk, waterspring, and food, to name a few), but while Unicorns are adept enchanters, Zebra are skilled alchemists. They have an easy time finding ingredients through their alchemy spell, and use potions to gain beneficial effects.

They also have access to the Black Cauldron, a large Obsidian cauldron that you build, not unlike the Lava Furnace. This cauldron opens up some special recipes unique to Zebras, including the transmutation of rare materials and gems: Emeralds, Endstone, Gold, Lapis. The Cauldron lets me specify almost any recipe I can think of, opening up a lot of possibilities for future crafting.

---

Note: Both classes are still being heavily worked on (class creation began today, basically, so consider the above a first draft). Some features are momentarily lacking (or at least undocumented), but I will flesh them out over the next few days. In the meantime, they are partially functional, and you can give them a try if you want. You can probably see where I'm going with them, so you'll probably be able to tell if their play style will appeal to you.

To facilitate this, everyone gets one free class change as of today. Fully optional, of course.

      Multiverse

We now have multiple worlds we can visit in-game. I will be adding more over time (possibly as suggestions come in), but for now I've added the following:

  • Blueprints
    Creative
    • A creative world which you can only access via the Arcane Hub. As the name suggests, this world is set up to let people experiment with structure designs before they begin construction in Liquestria -- useful for larger projects. Give it a shot, but be careful around the teleporter. You can see this world on the dynamic map.

Over time, there will be more worlds to access. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few that might be useful:

  • Freebuild
    Creative or Survival
    • A normal world where players can make whatever they like. Some things don't fit too well with the theme of a pony server, and this world would allow people to build things they normally couldn't.

  • Class test
    Survival
    • A basic world where you can experiment with the spells, abilities and powers of each of the races on the fly, making it easier for newcomers to pick a class. This world would be reset once every few days to regenerate the landscape.

  • Moon
    Survival
    • Of course. It's been in the plans for ages, it just hasn't materialized until now. Hopefully I can set one of these up soon, if only for the fun factor.

  • Art world
    Creative
    • A place where people can make 2D and 3D pixel art in a mutual park/gallery.

Please comment on the suggested worlds - I'd rather not add stuff without the players' consent. If you have any suggestions for worlds, let's hear them. These days, there's not much we can't do.

      Nether Reset

What it says on the tin. The nether has been reset, so expect some weird stuff with nether portals for a while. On the bright side: Glowstone! Blaze spawners! Have fun in there, and be careful.

      Town projects

The following buildings have been moved, removed, schematic'd, or otherwise messed with:
  • Bio's Obsidian Tower
  • Potmilk's Complex
  • Neighpon

They are all still in the game, but they all needed relocating. Still working on road designs, then I'll put them back in. (The players who built them no longer play, but I figured I'd give a heads up here, anyway.)

      Teleporters

Some teleporters have been moved or removed from the Arcane Hub. The top floor is now available for personal use on a first come, first serve basis. Read the previous patch notes for details.

      Magic system reset

I was forced to reset the magic spells plugin the other day, meaning everyone lost their spellbooks and marked locations. It's more a nuisance than it is a problem, as it takes time to visit the library and the university to re-learn them all. The main exception is Fus Ro Dah, which is hard to get now that the path to High Trotgar has been broken. Let me know in-game if you need it, and I'll hook you up.

      Current server projects

<[A] Cane> Hey guys, come up with some more buildings that should be in the marketplace.
<[S] Whitewing> Slave Pens
<[P] Caumen> Brothrel
<[A] Cane> Putting my smile away... and on with the day.

Here's a short list of projects we want to complete:
  • Marketplace
    • Hardware store
    • Music store
    • Furniture store (Quills and Sofas?)
    • Tailor (previous tailor shop never got finished and had to be removed)

  • General
    • More normal houses, as good as you can make them. These, more than anything, are appreciated.
    • Landscaping

If you can and want to design any of these, please go right ahead.

      Map corruption

Yyyeeaaah. This one wasn't fun. A server hiccup brought us our first chunk error resulting in some map corruption. Console showed me the coordinates and I found and fixed the few chunks that were affected, but I don't know if any other parts of the map have been affected. Check your shit. 99% sure everything is fine, but you might still want to take a look.

Let me know of any problems, comments, suggestions! I am - as always - at your service. =)

      Upcoming updates
  • New classes: Griffin and Zebra. Why, yes, I will be busy over the next few days.

  • The Nether will be reset today. The nether portal in town will be reactivated, but all other portals will need to be activated by their builders. Yes, I know this was on yesterday's patch notes as well, but piss off, I was busy!

      New features
  • Backpack is back in. Earth Ponies can type /i to access their backpack, and /w to access their portable workbench.

  • New Unicorn spell: Enderchest. This spell allows Unicorns to remotely access their Ender Chest.
    • Name: Enderchest
    • Cost: 100 mana
    • Cast time: 5 seconds
    • Cast interrupts: Move, damage

  • The Arcane Hub is almost complete. The second floor has been built, and is accessed through the hovering teleporter. This floor provides personal teleporter pads which players may claim on a first come, first serve basis. You are allowed to claim more than one, but excess teleporters may be reclaimed if we need room.

  • The dynamic map has been updated to use the Liquestria: LnT texture pack.

  • The Nether will be reset today. The nether portal in town will be reactivated by the Shadowbolts, but all other portals will need to be activated by their builders.

Recent updates:
+ Show Spoiler [Nov 29, 2012 - New downloads] +

      Updated LnT: Liquestria texture pack
  • The LnT: Liquestria texture pack has been updated. It's technically a beta release, but it fixes all the broken textures and armor brought over from 1.2.5. Grab it and use it in place of the old one.

    LnT Liquestria Texture Pack

The texture pack will be updated later to include a different design for the leather armor, as well as any other updates we can think of.

We're also looking to change the existing paintings into better ones more suited for our server. We'll try to get a compilation of paintings ready so that we can all pick which ones we want to see. No ETA on this yet, just a heads up.

      Updated mod pack download archive
  • I've updated the .zip archive we provide (which includes the Zombe fly mod and the MLP models mod fully installed). By popular request, it download now includes Rei's Minimap. This is a minimap mod with a high degree of customization, and is highly recommended.

    Grab it here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29920516/liquestria-1-4-5.zip

Installation instructions are in the thread, but - again - most of you know how to do this by now.

+ Show Spoiler [Nov 28, 2012 - Major plugin update] +
Server update:

I've been adding and replacing plugins, so we're almost back to 100% functionality.

  • A few CraftBook features have been added:
    • Gates (check out the community storage as an example)
    • Ammeter
    • Hidden Switches
    • Snow

  • Custom recipes are back in. These include the following (copy-pasted from the OP):
    + Show Spoiler [New crafting options - July 11, 2012] +
          New recipes
    • Wheat -> Seeds
    • Melons -> Melon seeds
    • 4 Gravel -> Flint
    • Seeds + Water Bucket -> Slimeball
    • Water Bucket + Lava Bucket -> Obsidian Block (just for posterity; not cost effective)
    • 9 Strings -> Cobweb
    • Water Bucket + Sand + Dirt -> Ice Block
    • 8 Sand surrounding Obsidian Block -> End Stone
    • 8 Redstone surrounding Stone Block -> Redstone Ore Block (lit)
    • 8 Lapis Lazuli surrounding Stone Block -> Lapis Lazuli Ore Block

          Disassemble
    • Ladders -> Sticks
    • Fences -> Sticks
    • Water Bucket -> Bucket
    • Lava Bucket -> Bucket
    • Johnny 5

          Smelting
    • Iron door -> Iron Ingots
    • Cauldron -> Iron Ingots
    • Bucket -> Iron Ingots
    • Minecarts -> Iron Ingots
    • Iron Fences -> Iron Ingots

Also, 3 pieces of paper once again become a book. I didn't much like the inclusion of leather to that recipe in vanilla.

  • LavaFurnace is back in. Happy birthday, Earth Ponies.

  • Bookshelves now act like chests. You can right click them to open them, and place books, paper, quills, etc. into the shelves. This semi-conflicts with spellbooks (where you right-click a bookshelf containing a spell in order to learn it) because it opens the shelf as well as teach you the spell, but it's not a big deal. Just deal with it until I can fix it.

  • Redstone Lighting is back in. You can use redstone to power (turn on/off) the following items:
    • Glowstone
    • Pumpkins
    • Netherrack

Known bugs / missing features:

  • Backpack is still missing, but your packs have been saved and it will work fine once SpoutPlugin updates. I tried a beta build for it, but it ended up lagging the server so I'll hold off on updating until a good dev build is released for 1.4.5. ETA: Another few days, probably.

  • Bookworm is gone, but the new writable books in Minecraft more than replace the old Bookworm functionality. If anyone wants to help me migrate all the old books to the new format (lots and lots of copy-pasting), let me know. I'll be adding them slowly over time, I'm sure.

  • The Love & Tolerance Texture Pack is in need of an update/upgrade. New blocks and paintings have been added since we last updated it, so they don't properly display in-game. Second, a few players' skins are broken. This is because of an update to the Mine Little Pony models mod. Raelcun has promised to take a look at these soon, so we can hopefully get them fixed up for 1.4.5. ETA: Raelcun.

  • The Magic Spells plugin has a bug that will mostly only affect new players. In certain conditions, it may not properly display all of your spells when you do /cast list. You may have access to a spell (and you may know it, and be able to cast it) and yet it won't display on /cast list until you have cast it at least once. I'm looking for a fix, but most likely this is a bug with the plugin and we just need to wait for the next stable release. It's no big deal, just keep it in mind.

+ Show Spoiler [1.4.5 Update - November 24, 2012] +

      Important notes:

This is a dev build. As such, there may be the occasional bug, and I cannot yet attest to the stability of the server. Everything does seem fine and operational right now, but if you do encounter a problem, let me know.

Not much has changed in terms of gameplay, but there are a few plugins missing right now where I am either waiting for an update, or actively looking for a replacement.

  • The important one right now is Backpack, which you will not be able to access for a few days. Backpack requires Spout to work, and Spout hasn't updated yet. I'm waiting for both, then it should be back and working as usual.
ETA: No idea, depends on Spout, but shouldn't be more than a few days.

  • LavaFurnace does technically work, but it was spamming my server console with a message that I could not get rid of. I am waiting for an update to fix this bug (it should be no more than a few days also), but if no update is forthcoming I will add it and just deal with the personal aggravation of console spam.
    ETA: By next weekend, tops.

  • Blacksmith is also gone (see a pattern here, Earth Ponies?), and this one is problematic -- I don't know if we can get it back. The freaking repair mods have always given us grief, so this is nothing out of the ordinary. I'll look for a replacement, and until then I will be handling repair duties personally (as long as I'm in-game).
    ETA: Fuck you.

The Love & Tolerance texture pack also needs updating -- I'm waiting on Raelcun to get online to talk to him about it. There's some stuff missing right now, and the armor is messed up. We'll get it fixed asap.

I also managed to find a dev build of the Zombe fly mod. I've provided a download which includes both the Zombe fly mod (configured properly for our server) as well as Mine Little Pony (MLP models mod). Grab it here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29920516/tlp-minecraft-1-4-5.zip

Most of you already know what to do with it. If you're new, you can find installation instructions further down in the thread.

Lastly, some things in the thread are out-of-date. This obviously includes information on the Backpack and Blacksmith plugins, as well as anything else that's missing or changed. I will update it once we get a stable build set up. 95% of it is still accurate, just keep it in mind.

If something doesn't work, let me know asap so I can get to work on it.

Welcome back to Liquestria, everyone.

Thanks to Thirteen for pointing it out to me.

+ Show Spoiler [New repair mod] +

      New repair mod!

Found one that works. Here's how:

In any crafting menu (inventory, workbench), put your damaged tool (i.e. iron pickaxe) along with the primary component material (i.e. iron ingot). The more damaged it is, the more ingots it will cost to repair.

Anyone can repair items, but Earth Ponies are more efficient at it and require fewer ingots to do so. Additionally, only Earth Ponies can keep item enchantments -- anyone else can still repair the item, but it will be disenchanted in the process. The more powerful the enchantment on the item, the more ingots it will cost to repair.

Enjoy.

Type /ap on to activate this ability, /ap off to deactivate, and /dist n to specify the distance at which you place the block (up to 5). This should help with cloud construction better than carpet ever did.

Liquestria

Liquestria is a highly customized MLP:FiM-themed survival mode Minecraft server. We have three unique classes that are visually and mechanically distinctive, over 50 plugins that enhance gameplay, and a wide variety of abilities and spells, including flying and cloud building for Pegasi, magic spells and runes for Unicorns, and athletics and craft efficiency for Earth Ponies. The focus is on building, with a secondary emphasis on doing so in a survival mode environment.

This thread chronicles our enterprises in our very own Minecraft server. Its purpose: To provide us with a common Minecraftian home. We come together - as individuals and as a group - to build, to make, to mine, to farm, to find, to carve out a home, and to have a metric Lunaplex of fun.

      Features

Click below to see a substantial list of features, plugins, and information on how to use them.

+ Show Spoiler [Features] +
Class specialization
  • You can play as one of three distinct races in Liquestria - Earth Pony, Unicorn, or Pegasus. All three can perform any task in the game, but they each have their own unique skills and abilities that offer some interesting quirks and gameplay mechanics. Read the classes section for detailed information.

Air Construction
  • Pegasi can place blocks in mid-air, allowing for efficient sky construction.

You activate this ability with /ap on/off, and you can change the building distance using /dist [1-5].

Apple Trees
  • Earth Ponies can plant, grow, and farm apple trees for food. They do this by tilling the soil and planting an apple. These trees will drop apples regularly as long as they are fertilized with bonemeal, and apples are the main food source in Liquestria.

Easy Enchanting
  • An alternative to the normal enchanting method, using /commands to get accurate enchantments.

+ Show Spoiler [Relevant plugin and information] +
    http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/easyenchant/

EasyEnchant is an optional overhaul of the current enchanting method, using commands to get accurate enchantments while also allowing for server owners to completely control how much the enchantments cost (using a multiplier and adder) and each enchantments maximum level. This also allows for users to add enchantments to their already enchanted tools, weapons and armor.

What this means for our server is simply that you can specify which enchantments you want, instead of selecting one at random and hoping for the best. However, using this system costs more experience points than selecting an equivalent level enchantment at random, and you can only enchant up to a certain level (for instance, using this method, you can only get fortune 2, not fortune 3). This is the price you pay for knowing which enchantment you're going to get.

    Here's a list of commands:

    • /ee
    • /ee list
    • /ee combos
    • /ee comboinfo (combo)
    • /ee combo (combo)
    • /ee (enchantment) (level)
    • /ee cost (enchantment) (level)

Here's an example of how you might use EE in our server:

Left click an enchanting table to enter EasyEnchant mode. Use the command lines specified (specifically the /ee command) to navigate the EasyEnchant system. As a basic example, if you wanted to enchant a sword with Sharpness 1, you would:

    • Left click the Enchanting Table
    • Type /ee to see a list of commands
    • Type /ee list to see a list of available enchantments
    • Type /ee cost sharpness 1 (optionally) to see how much the enchantment would cost
    • Type /ee sharpness 1 to add Sharpness 1 to the item you are currently holding in your hands
    • To leave EasyEnchant mode, either left click the Enchanting Table, type /ee, or simply walk away

Note that only Unicorns can use the more powerful combo enchantments. Available combo enchantments are listed in the Unicorn class section.

Flight
  • Pegasi can fly, using a variety of plugins. See the Pegasus class section for more information.

Lava Furnace
  • Earth Ponies have access to this special lava-powered furnace, which lets them smelt items much more quickly and efficiently than with normal furnaces.

      The classes

The server will allow you to play as either of the three main types of ponies: Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasi. All three can perform any task in the game, but they each have their own unique skills and abilities that offer some interesting quirks and gameplay mechanics.

[image loading] Earth Ponies are the workhorses, athletic and strong. They deal more damage and take less damage than the other races, and they can jump longer distances and carry more weight (almost double the normal inventory space). They also have access to a variety of tools, such as the lava furnace and the repair bench. They can grow and farm apple trees, which provide most of the food for Liquestria. Their talents are geared towards mining, farming, woodcutting, simple combat, and construction.

Abilities:
  • Increased attack power - do more damage with all weapons
  • Damage resistance - take less damage from all sources
  • Reduced fall damage
  • Double inventory space in the form of a backpack whose contents you cannot lose by dying
  • Portable workbench
  • Jump higher and further
  • Repair damaged equipment
  • Cut down trees quickly and efficiently
  • Plant and tend apple trees which drop apples over time
  • Find extra materials when mining
  • Access to a special lava furnace which are more efficient than regular coal furnaces
  • Convert cobblestone into mossy cobblestone by right-clicking while holding seeds [seeds are consumed]
  • Convert stone bricks into the following:
    • Mossy stone brick: Right-click holding seeds [seeds are consumed]
    • Cracked stone brick: Right-click holding pickaxe
    • Chiseled stone brick: Right-click holding flint
  • Can dig and collect grass

  • As an Earth Pony, you have almost double the inventory space of everyone else in the form of a backpack whose contents you cannot lose by dying. This backpack comes equipped with a portable workbench. To access them, simply use:
    • /b - opens the backpack
    • /w - opens the workbench

  • To execute a high jump, hold a feather in your hand and right click. You can bind the high jump ability to any item you want by holding the item in your hand and typing
    • /c bind leap

I do recommend sticking with feather, however. Or music discs, if that's your preference.

  • Earth Ponies can repair items much cheaper than their counterparts. Place the item you wish to repair into any crafting screen along with its component material -- for example, Iron Pickaxe require Iron Ingots to repair. All classes can repair items, but Earth Pony repairs cost less, and they can use this method to keep the item's enchantments without spending experience points to do so.

  • You can chop down entire trees quickly and efficiently by simply using any axe to chop down the bottom block of wood.

  • You can turn various blocks into their counterparts:
    • Convert cobblestone into mossy cobblestone by right-clicking while holding seeds [seeds are consumed]
    • Convert stone bricks into the following:

      • Cracked stone brick: Right-click holding pickaxe
      • Chiseled stone brick: Right-click holding flint

  • Earth Ponies have access to a special lava-powered furnace. Watch this YouTube video to learn how to build one (starts at 50s):

    + Show Spoiler +

  • Earth Ponies can plant apple trees. Apples are the most desirable food source in Liquestria, and our farmers work hard to keep us supplied.

To plant an apple tree, you have to till the soil using a hoe, then plant the apple as you would a seed. This will create a planted sapling of an apple tree. If you fertilize it with bonemeal, it will grow into a large apple tree.

The apple trees drop apples over time. After some time has passed, the tree will require further fertilization before it will grow more apples. You can see whether or not a tree is an Apple tree, and whether or not it requires fertilization, by equipping a wood hoe and right clicking on the trunk. If it requires fertilization, fertilize it with more bonemeal.

You can also mark the trees with signs, which will automatically display what type of tree it is, and whether or not it requires fertilizer. Place a sign on the tree, and write [Appleseed] in the top line, like this:

    ------------------
    [Appleseed]

    ------------------

The sign will change to display the tree type (in our case, "apple"). This makes them easy to differentiate from the other trees near your orchard. The sign will also tell you if the tree needs fertilization - note the colour of the text. If it's green, it's healthy and dropping items. If it's red, it requires fertilization in the form of bonemeal.

  • Earth Ponies can also plant other types of trees - namely cocoa and cookie trees. The process is the same.

[image loading] Unicorns can learn and cast a wide range of spells, and are adept at Runecrafting - a powerful tool that lets Unicorns create magical runes by placing blocks in patterns on the ground. They begin the game with few spells, but can learn over three dozen ranging from entertaining but useless to extremely useful. They can write spellbooks that other Unicorns can read from to learn spells, and they can teach spells to other Unicorns directly. They are also able to enchant items better and more efficiently than the other races. Their talents are geared towards all things magical, their versatility in combat is unmatched, and they are the only class that can create waypoints and teleporters.

  • Magic Spells

Your basic chat command is /c (alias to /cast). This is the key to unlocking all your stuff. Here's a brief overview:

/c list - lists all the /cast commands you know, including your spells
/c help - gives an overview of cast commands
/c help [spellname] - gives detailed information about a specific spell
/c blink - casts the spell "Blink" through the /c chat command

You can bind spells to items, and then simply left click while holding that item to cast it instead of using the chat command. Here's how:

/c bind blink - binds the spell "Blink" to whatever item you are carrying

With that wand item equipped, you can now press the left mouse button to cast Blink. I strongly recommend using only items that have no in-world purpose - that is, you should use a blaze rod, stick, ghast tear, feather, or spider's eye, instead of a placeable block or a weapon.

(Note: Most spells auto-bind to sticks, so if you wield a stick, chances are good you can use it as a wand without having to /c bind a spell to it first. In short, you can only cast spells you know/own, but they often auto-bind to sticks until you bind it to something else. Just grab a stick and right-click to cycle through all the spells you can cast, and left-click to cast.)

    • Spells cost mana to use, and efficient mana management is important. If you put a wooden tool of some sort in the last slot on your hotbar, the game will automatically adjust that tool's durability in relation to your mana, acting as an efficient mana bar. If you are using the optional Spoutcraft client, you will be able to see the mana bar as an element on your HUD instead, freeing up that slot in your hotbar for other items.

  • Runecraft lets you create magical runes by putting down blocks in certain patterns on the ground. You have a spell to help you - "conjure" creates some magical reagents for you to use in your Runecrafting.

You have access to all of the runes on the list above. To find out how to build them, read the official Runecraft wiki:

    http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/Runecraft

  • Unicorns are skilled Enchanters. They have access to powerful extra enchanting options when using EasyEnchant.

To enchant using EasyEnchant, left click an enchanting table and follow the instructions on-screen.

Read the list of enchantments above for examples of what you can craft.

[image loading] Pegasi can fly, which in the world of Minecraft is an overwhelmingly useful ability. They are particularly suited for building constructions in the sky, and for finding rare substances like clay, pumpkins, and cacti. They can change the weather at will, and they make excellent scouts and harvesters of rare materials. Their talents are geared towards mobility, building with ease, and exploration.

+ Show Spoiler +
Abilities:
  • Flight
  • Lightning
  • Conjure white wool for building materials
  • Sky construction
  • Dye placed wool blocks by right-clicking it with dye in hand
  • Change the weather at will

+ Show Spoiler [Tutorials] +
  • Flight

There are currently three ways to access the power of flight in our server:
    • The Zombe fly mod - a client-side modification available for the standard Minecraft client
    • Creative-mode style flight - handled server-side with no modification needed; just type /f to toggle

Main differences between Zombe and Creative-mode style:
    • Zombe has a slower "regular" flight speed, but is able to fly faster using shift to boost, meaning it has effectively two speeds whereas Creative only has one -- fast (equivalent to Zombe users holding down shift)
    • Key bindings are different -- Zombe uses F to engage fly mode, E/Q to ascend/descend, and Shift to speed boost (keys are also customizable through their config, but they need to be set to keys that are not bound in-game). Creative uses already-existing key-bindings to function: double jump (jump while in mid-air) to engage fly mode, then jump/crouch to ascend/descend. This can be annoying if you're simply trying to jump somewhere and you accidentally engage fly mode, but that's a small price to pay for being able to fly
    • Moving around in the air feels about the same, although creative flight is slightly more "floaty" in the air whereas Zombe feels more "sharp", especially when turning or reversing direction
    • Zombe does not work in the Spoutcraft client

If you want to use Zombe (this is entirely optional as creative style flight is perfectly fine), you will need to install some things. I've made this process extremely easy for you: Simply download the following archive:

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29920516/tlp-minecraft-1-4-5.zip

This .zip contains all you need, including the required Zombe mod configuration settings. Simply unzip the archive to your .minecraft folder. This will set up the fly mod as well as the MLP models mod in one convenient package.

(NOTE: This will overwrite your original minecraft.jar, so if you have any other mods installed, you will have to either install the Zombe fly mod manually, or install the other mods afterwards. I will tell you how to do this later, but if you've added other mods in the past, you probably know how by now.)

    More detailed installation instructions:
    + Show Spoiler +
Locate your .minecraft folder. On Windows, you can:

Start -> Run (or, in Win7, Start -> Search programs and files)
    Enter this line: %APPDATA%
    press enter.

You should see your .minecraft folder in explorer. Simply copy the contents of the .zip file (linked above) into the Minecraft folder, overwriting files when asked. Done.

If you have other mods installed and don't want your minecraft.jar to get overwritten:

You probably already know how to do this, but you will want to install the Zombe mod manually.

Here's the download for the Zombe mod files:
    http://bit.ly/HRZXjr

    And installation instructions:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19090066/minecraft/readme.html#installation

(Note: All of this information can be found on this site: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/91055-v125-zombes-modpack-26-mods-v62-upd-6apr/

But in short, you open up your minecraft.jar with Winzip or 7Zip or whatever, and copy all the .class files from the Zombe mod into the archive. You do not need to include the following files:

    gb.class
    alb.class
    agh.class
    fe.class
    ahg.class
    aes.class

You do need yw.class and the rest.

Once you've done that, copy the \mods folder from the .zip file we provided into your Minecraft folder. This is necessary to set it up with the correct configurations, as you couldn't use it properly otherwise.

If you still have issues (you shouldn't), ask in IRC, or talk to me in-game if you see me! I will have better instructions later, but so far no one has been unable to set it up properly after a bit of work.

Once you've installed the mod, you need to change your key bindings. The Zombe mod uses the following keys:

    F = toggle flight mode on/off
    Q / E = fly up / down
    Shift = speed boost

You either need to change these keys (found in the Zombe config file in .minecraft\mods\zombe\config.txt), or change your in-game key-bindings: Inventory (default: E) to something like I or Tab, Sneak (default: Shift) to Ctrl, Drop Item (Q) to something like G or X. Whatever you feel comfortable with, just so long as the keys used by Zombe do not overlap with any used by the game.

  • Pegasi can create a bolt of lightning. They can only do this while outside and during a storm. This ability is by default bound to sticks (as is the wool ability), but you can bind it to any item you want by holding the item and typing /c bind pegasuslightning. The lighting bolt has a cooldown of 1 minute.

  • Pegasi can place blocks in mid-air, facilitating easy cloud and flying constructions. Type /ap on to activate this ability, /ap off to deactivate, and /dist [1-5] to specify the distance at which you place the block).

  • To simulate Pegasi manipulating clouds to make cloud buildings, you can generate wool. Either type /c wool to generate a stack, or hold a stick in your hand and left click. (If it doesn't work, right click while holding a stick to make sure the spell is loaded, then left click to cast.) You can bind this ability to another item if you want - simply hold something in your hand and type /c bind wool.

  • You can change the weather using a /command line. This is just for fun and mostly cosmetic, and the effect is instant.

          /sun
          /storm

In other words, we're the server admins, and your faithful hosts. We're here to ensure that everything is running as smoothly as possible. There are three of us right now: Cane, StarDragon, and Tee. Not all of us are online as Alicorns all the time, however: Tee, for instance, plays as an Earth Pony, tending his amazing apple tree orchard and wandering the lands.

Consider the Alicorns as a deus ex machina: They'll swoop in and cast a spell made of rainbows and awesome to resolve a conflict, then disappear into the night, awaiting further letters from their faithful subjects.

      The future

We have our own domain (www.liquestria.net), and I would love to set up a website for Liquestria. We have SQL and PHP capabilities, so if you have any experience with web design, we would love to hear from you.

The server will be expanded with further mods as time passes, and we'll try to improve the experience across the board. We'll have occasional polls where we'll ask you guys what you all want to see next, and in which direction you all want me to take this fun little project of ours. I am, as always, at your service.

Upcoming plugins:

  • Movecraft - Pilot large ships: boats, ships, airships
    • Okay, this one has technically been added, but it's a bit of a problem and so it's only available for Alicorns at the moment. We really do want to run it, but it has some issues. Notably, craft over a certain size can lag the server. While we can set a limit on how big a craft can be, a lot of smaller craft at once could still make it hiccup. Further testing would be required before we could consider this a possibility.

However (and the reason this is in upcoming plugins), the devs are working on a whole new version, a big update that tweaks performance and basically runs a lot better. They've supposedly gotten it down to 1ms response time for anything under 1000 blocks, and 2ms for ~2500, which is huge. Chances are very good that we can use it in some form or another.

  • Multiverse - Multiple worlds, including Cloudsdale-equivalent and "moon"
  • Streetlights - Lanterns that turn on at night and off for the day [Added!]
  • Better Snow - Improved snow creation; see picture

      Joining Liquestria

+ Show Spoiler [READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO JOIN!] +
If you are from outside of TeamLiquid and you want to join our server, then we demand two things of you: That you are mature of mind (preferably an adult), and that you read the information provided to you. Especially the text below.

The main thing we require of you is a bit of effort. If I spend my time on you, talking to you and getting to know you, and setting you up with permissions, a class, and a nice plot of land in the server, only for you to ask us how to fly or cast spells, I am going to launch you to the moon. You have not been around long enough to get the luxury of being lazy. If you don't put in the effort to read and understand the information presented to you, and if you don't do what I ask of you in this thread, then I simply cannot let you join.

      Our unique situation

Almost a hundred people have build permissions on our server. We have dozens of active players. Most of them are from TeamLiquid, and a few have come in from Google or elsewhere, wishing to join in on this unique experience. Depending on the time zone and other events going on in our community, we have anywhere from 0 to 16 people online. We are an internet community playing an online game.

And, by design and choice, we have no area or chest protection.

Not only do we not need it, we actually have a community storage in the center of town, where people can go and pick up any items they need, and leave any items they think others will find useful. Our players do this constantly. We have an open community, where people freely give each other everything, from sand to glass to dyes to tools to diamonds.

This freedom to do anything is why we love playing here. Everyone can contribute to a project, and we all work together to make cool stuff. If this freedom means extra work for us in making sure we don't get griefed by people from outside the community, then that is a price that is completely worth paying.

So whenever I tell people that they cannot play with us, it is not because I want to prevent them from playing -- it is because I want to prevent our players from having their experience ruined by people who don't share our completely alien concepts of honesty, loyalty, generosity, kindness, and laughter.

      What we need from you

You will need to copy the following application, fill it in, and post it in this thread for us to read.

Introduction:

The introduction can be anything you like, but a good rule of thumb is that the more in-depth you are, the more highly we'll think of you. Specifically, things we are interested in include how you found us, why you want to join us, specifically, when there are other pony servers out there, and what kind of stuff you want to build in Liquestria (or if you're just sightseeing). The rest is at your discretion. This is for us to get to know you better, so please give us something to read! Also, if you have any questions not answered in this thread, now is the time to ask. I will get back to you within 24 hours, and usually a lot less.

Alternatively, you can just log in and introduce yourself to us in person, and get acquainted with our regulars, especially the Shadowbolts -- Cane, Raelcun, Camail, Whitewing, Requiem, Aranarth. Check out our IRC or Ventrilo, get to know us, get a feel for what we're like and if you'd be interested in hanging out with us.

If you aren't willing to put in the time I ask of you, then I recommend you look for other pony servers. Popular ones include http://www.brohoof.com/ and http://ponycraft.net/. Others can be found at http://www.hoofbump.com/p/server-list.html or http://www.equestriagaming.com/p/pony-servers.html

Minecraft MLP & Fly Mod installation

You don't need to install any mods to play on our server, but installing the MLP mod is required if you want to see the characters as ponies, and is highly recommended. Click below for instructions.

+ Show Spoiler [Installation instructions] +
I recommend simply making sure your game is updated to the most recent version (1.4.5), then downloading this archive:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/29920516/liquestria-1-4-5.zip

This .zip contains all you need, including the MLP ingame pony models, the Zombe fly mod with the proper configuration settings, and Rei's Minimap in one convenient package. You can download this even if you don't intend to play a Pegasus; the server will simply ignore Zombe in your case, while keeping the functionality of the other two. Simply unzip the archive to your .minecraft folder.

NOTE: This will overwrite your original minecraft.jar, so if you have any other client mods installed, you will have to either install the Zombe fly mod manually, or install the other mods afterwards.

+ Show Spoiler [Detailed instructions] +
Locate your .minecraft folder. On Windows, you can:

Start -> Run (or, in Win7, Start -> Search programs and files)
Enter this line: %APPDATA%
press enter.

You should see your .minecraft folder in explorer. Simply copy the contents of the .zip file (linked above) into the Minecraft folder, overwriting files when asked. Done.

If you have other mods installed and don't want your minecraft.jar to get overwritten:

You probably already know how to do this, but you will want to install the Zombe mod manually.

Here's the download for the Zombe mod files:

(Note: All of this information can be found on this site: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/91055-v125-zombes-modpack-26-mods-v62-upd-6apr/

But in short, you open up your minecraft.jar with Winzip or 7Zip or whatever. Delete the META-INF folder in the archive, then copy all the .class files from the Zombe mod into the archive. You do not need to include the following files:

gb.class
alb.class
agh.class
fe.class
ahg.class
aes.class

You do need yw.class and the rest.

Once you've done that, copy the \mods folder from the .zip file we provided into your Minecraft folder. This is necessary to set Zombe up with the correct configurations, as you wouldn't be able to use it properly otherwise.

F = toggle flight mode on/off
Q / E = fly up / down
Shift = speed boost

If you're having issues, ask around in IRC: http://webchat.quakenet.org #tlponies on QuakeNet.

      FAQ

Is this a role-play server?

Nope, we just build stuff. I may eventually set up chat rooms for RP, but keep it out of main chat.

Could we possibly get your config settings so that we can host our own version of this, or is there a tutorial or download for setting up our own MLP server?

Short answer: No.

Long answer:
+ Show Spoiler +
It's really cool that you're interested in the server. I can't tell you how much I appreciate knowing that people are really interested in all the hard work and affection I've been putting into this project. Unfortunately, there is little I can do to help you. There is no download button for "Minecraft server with fully fleshed out classes and abilities", and there certainly isn't one for My Little Pony. Instead, this server is a special combination of four hundred different things.

Our server - everything on it - is the result of countless hours of hard work, careful attention to details, and a genuine interest in fixing problems and making things work. There's hardly a single plugin we use that I haven't tweaked or customized in some way to better fit our theme and style, and we're still adding new things every month. I myself have spent over 500 hours on this project.

For the same reason, I hope you can understand why I'm going to have to give an empathic "no" to the question of giving anyone our configs. I may make them public at some point in a convenient package, but it won't be any time soon. Even if I did, you'd still need to learn how to set it up properly, and how to configure it. It might be easier to simply start from scratch to ensure that you get the gaming experience you're after.

All I can really do to help anyone who wants to do what we've done is to say that my starting point was bukkit.org. Our server is running the Bukkit framework, and it uses a permissions system (such as bPermissions [recommended] or PermissionsEx) to set up and customize groups/classes. You can find most of the plugins we use on bukkit.org, specifically on the sub-section dev.bukkit.org, which is where the really big ones usually are. You can find a substantial list of the plugins we run in this very post, but as I said, almost every single one of them has been customized to some degree, and a lot of them quite extensively, so your experiences with them will vary.

Good luck, and have fun building.

Should we submit the server to Equestria Daily?

Eventually it would be awesome to get this project featured on Equestria Daily... but not just yet. We need to do some more groundwork before we should consider it presentable. A set town layout, more community buildings, more process automation, and some more completed projects in general. Once we have all these things, I'll personally write to them asking if they can feature it. Until then, as a personal favour to me, please hold off. It's still just getting off the ground.

News:

Welcome to 1.2.5!

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally done. Say hello to higher build ceiling, ocelots, upside-down slabs and staircases, and OH MY GOD RAELCUN CAN FIX HIS FUCKING TELESCOPE ALREADY

We'll miss the additions of Redstone Lighting and the Moon Cannon, and I'll miss a couple of admin tools that made my life a bit easier, but on the whole the transition was mostly painless. Except for the apple trees. I don't know what the hell happened there, but we need to replant them all.

I did have to replace a couple of plugins to make the switch; I'll explain them all a bit more here.

      ShowCaseStandalone

This is a replacement for the old Showcase plugin as this one has fewer dependencies (it's in the name) and actually updates regularly. To make a showcase now, use:

/showcase display this

This will "prepare" the item you're holding for showcasing, and the plugin will tell you to right-click on any block. Once you do this, the showcase will be created. To remove a showcase, simply type /showcase remove and right-click on a block containing a showcase.

      Blacksmith

This repair plugin replaces the previous repair functionality (we used mcMMO because there was literally nothing else out there that did what we wanted it to do). This plugin uses signs to access the repair functionality. To set up and use a repair station (Earth Pony only), put down a sign on any wall with one of the following lines:

------------------
[Blacksmith]
Value
------------------

------------------
[Blacksmith]
Repair
------------------

Right clicking on the Value sign will tell you how much the repair job will cost. Right clicking on the Repair sign will repair your item if you have enough materials for it. Be careful - the prices aren't dynamic (based on how damaged the item is), so you're better off repairing when it's almost dead.

Of note is that right now, enchanted items require redstone to repair (one (1) redstone for each level of enchantment present on the item). Initially it was set up to use the impossible-to-find blaze powder, which would make repairing enchanted items much more difficult (although it is a damn cool idea). What do you guys think? What material should we require to repair enchanted items?

      Backpack

Replacement for the now-defunct VirtualChest. It's currently a work-in-progress. It works exactly the same as VirtualChest, except for some reason the backpack is different from world to world, meaning that if you put something in it while in Liquestria, it won't be there when you're in the Nether -- for some reason, it treats the Nether backpack as a separate pack entirely. It's dumb and there's no fix right now, but the plugin is new (only 10 days old), and this functionality is coming.

What it does have, however, is a portable workbench. You're welcome.

To use it:
/backpack - opens your backpack
/backpack workbench - activates your workbench

      New optional fly mod

Yes, we have a fly mod that actually works! And this one is really cool. It basically gives you creative-mode style flight, which is as smooth as Zombe and doesn't require client-side installation. It's an option for those not wishing to use Zombe or SpoutFlight.

If you want to use it, contact me - I have to set you up for it because it's not given by default for a number of reasons.
Differences between Zombe and the new fly mod:

  • Zombe has a slower "normal" flight speed, but is able to fly faster using shift to boost (effectively two speeds), whereas Creative has one speed - fast (zombe+shift equivalent).
  • Key bindings are different -- Zombe uses F to engage fly mode, E/Q to ascend/descend, and Shift to speed boost (keys are also customizable through their config, but they need to be set to keys that are not bound in-game). Creative uses already-existing key-bindings to function: double jump (jump while in mid-air) to engage fly mode, jump/crouch to ascend/descend. This can be annoying if you're simply trying to jump somewhere and you accidentally engage fly mode, but that's a small price to pay for being able to fly.
  • Moving around in the air feels about the same, although creative flight is slightly more "floaty" in the air whereas Zombe feels more "sharp", especially when turning or reversing direction.
  • Zombe does not work in SpoutCraft

You can find information about all the old and new spells and runes under the Unicorn section in this post.

Lastly, if there are any web designers out there, we have our own domain (www.liquestria.net) and we are looking to set up a website for the server. We have SQL and PHP capabilities, so if you have any experience with web design, we would love to hear from you!

That's about it! If you're not sure how to work a plugin, read the rest of this thread (especially your class-specific section); the information contained here is extremely comprehensive and should include everything you want to know about our server's plugins and functionality.

See you all in Liquestria soon! ♥

    • Lunar Armor
    • Excavator
    • Camail's Pickaxe
    • The Potmilk
    • The Stove
    • Fortune

      The new toys

Unicorns have three new spells to work with. The first, "Study", is used in conjunction with enchanting and will be explained later. The "Food" spell fills a small portion of their hunger bar, and "Snowball" launches a big spread of snowballs to slow and hurt their enemies.

Unicorns have also become a lot stronger at enchanting than their counterparts. They now have access to several unique and powerful enchantment combinations, available using EasyEnchant. A few of these unique enchantments provides access to higher level enchants than can be acquired through normal EasyEnchant use, and they are cheaper per enchantment type/power than individual enchants.

Here is a list of enchantment combinations and their effects:

  • Edgemaster
    Sword
    - Sharpness IV
    • /ee combo edgemaster
    • Level cost: 35

  • Fire Brand
    Sword

    - Silk Touch I
    - Efficiency I
    - Unbreaking I
    - Fortune I

    • /ee combo thestove
    • Level cost: 35

  • Fortune
    Tool
    - Fortune II
    • /ee combo fortune
    • Level cost: 25
(Other classes can still use EasyEnchant as normal, but they do not have access to enchantment combinations.)

To aid in their enchanting abilities, Unicorns can now gain levels more quickly than their counterparts. A few of their existing spells now give a small bit of experience when cast, and they have been given a new practice spell called "study". In studying their magic, Unicorns gain experience points very quickly, which can be applied to enchanting.

Unicorn abilities are almost exclusively active, and as such they are a bitch to balance. As with spell costs, spell power, mana regeneration rate, and pretty much everything else under the sun, I'm sure these numbers will change over the next week or so as Unicorns learn to apply their new tools. Some things are sure to be OP, some hardly used. Consider this a first draft.

To that end, I would greatly appreciate feedback from everyone about this update, especially from Unicorns who experiment with these things. Tell me your findings, from your first impressions to rigorous week-long testing. I want to make sure it's at least reasonably well implemented.

Everyone: If you have any ideas for further enchantment combinations with awesome names, let me know.

Also, big thanks to pettter who sliced up some java code so that I could implement experience gains for spellcasting without it spamming the chat!

As always, please report any problems to your faithful host. Happy gaming!

  • Ladders aren't orange any more
  • Clay bricks were toned down
  • Piston aesthetics
  • No more scratches on glass / better transparency
  • Stone brick color was slightly adjusted to go better with other textures
  • End stone now looks like marble

+ Show Spoiler [From Princess Luna - Jan 27, 2012] +
My faithful subjects,

  • Spout is a server plugin that enables extended scripts, and can do a few nifty things on its own. Any server with Spout installed is considered "Spout-enabled".
  • Spoutcraft is a whole new Minecraft client that you download and launch instead of Minecraft.exe. This client communicates with Spout-enabled servers in amazingly cool ways, letting us do things previously impossible.

The short of it is, we want Spoutcraft. We really do. It's a great Minecraft client that just works, connects to any server with any version, and lets us do some cool things.

But the fly mod doesn't work with Spoutcraft. In fact, no fly mods work with Spoutcraft, except server side ones, and we all know how good those are. The absolute best one is a plugin called SpoutFlight, which works similarly to Zombe (and in fact advertises itself as Zombe-like flying), but like all things server side, it's influenced by lag, and the controls feel clunky and unresponsive, especially after the lag-free flying environment provided by Zombe.

For now, the simple fact is that the added content just isn't worth the fly mod downgrade, or the hassle of having to provide the Spoutcraft client to everyone who wants to play on our server and be able to partake in all the added content (which is something we will have to do because installing the pony models on Spoutcraft is a bitch and we were only able to get it to work because ZodaSoda is a stubborn idiot).

Additionally, a few of the plugins I wanted to use were buggy, especially JukeBukkit. To top it off, there was even a performance hit when using the Spoutcraft client in certain conditions.

All that said, using the Spoutcraft client is optional. You can always connect to any Spout-enabled server using the regular client, you just won't be able to see any Spoutcraft-specific content if you do.

So here's what I'll do.

I will add Spout to our server. There are some things it can do even without the client, so it makes sense to have it. There will never be any Spoutcraft-only plugins, but there are some Spoutcraft-only extensions in existing plugins that you may enjoy. For instance, mcMMO has a level bar, and you can see all your party members on-screen as portraits, among other things. Similarly, MagicSpells has an add-on plugin which shows the mana bar on your HUD, useful for Unicorns, and I will install it if there is sufficient interest (n=>1).

Even Pegasi can use Spoutcraft, if you don't mind the significant fly mode downgrade. You can still fly, but it will be handled by SpoutFlight, the server mod, and you will need to use different keys to do so. If, however, you find the HUD worth the trade-off, then by all means go for it.

Everyone will still be able to connect to the server using the regular Minecraft client, and I imagine 98% of you will. If, however, you want to use Spoutcraft, here's what you have to do.

Download the Spout client from here:

http://get.spout.org/

NOTE: Installing the Spoutcraft client does not overwrite or tamper with your regular Minecraft installation. It installs in a separate folder, meaning you can switch between the two clients effortlessly in case you're having any problems with Spoutcraft.

NOTE 2: When running the Spoutcraft installer, it will ask you if you want to update Minecraft. Click on yes. Again, this does not interfere in any way with your regular Minecraft installation, and you can use the latest version of Spoutcraft to connect to our server.

Once Spoutcraft is installed and working, contact me on IRC or through forum PMs so I can send you the Spoutcraft.jar file which has the pony models set up and ready to go. (I do not recommend trying to install it yourself, because all it does is crash the client.) All you will have to do is download the file I send you and overwrite your original Spoutcraft.jar file.

While I have your attention, I would like to ask one thing of you guys. Keep this thread active. I know we all hang out in IRC, Vent, and in-game, and that all screenshots and videos and such are shared instantly with everyone in the community through these platforms, but that does mean that there's hardly any content going into this thread.

Post screenshots, make a video or two with some highlights, show off your home, tell us what you've done. It's great for the community, and it's an incentive for me to keep working on the server when I see people having fun and posting about it.

I myself will be uploading a metric crapton of screenshots soon, pictures from the first few days of the server and all the way up until present day.

In other words, I want to use this thread to chronicle the progression of the server. Please do the same!

Your faithful host,
Cane

+ Show Spoiler [News: Runecraft! - Jan 20, 2011] +

Patch notes:
  • Runecraft added
  • Unicorns can now learn the "conjure" spell
  • Unicorn mana regeneration buffed

Runecraft

Runecraft is a plugin that gives Unicorns the ability to create magical runes - symbols of power that can contain or release magical energy to create various effects. Currently, there are 13 runes available in the server of varying degrees of usefulness, with the potential for further additions at a later date.

Runes are essentially block patterns, arranged according to a recipe. Once created, they are activated by right clicking its center block.

Here is an extensive Wiki containing all the information Unicorns need to get started:
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Mods/Runecraft

Current list of available runes on our server:
  • Oracle
  • Compass
  • Waypoint
  • Teleporter
  • Magic Beacon
  • Flash Freeze
  • Uncrafter
  • Phantom Torch
  • Ice Pick
  • Bow of Light
  • Multishot
  • Fire Sword
  • Dispel

Look in the wiki for how to create any one of these runes, and feel free to experiment. The "conjure" spell creates some magical reagents for you to use in your rune crafting.

As with any new system, any comments and constructive criticisms are welcome! It will be a while before we get this stuff all nicely balanced.

Since the new enchanting system can be confusing, I'll keep this copy-paste from the previous news item in here.

The new optional enchanting system lets you specify enchantments at the enchanting table, although enchanting in this mode costs more levels per enchantment than normal (the price you pay for knowing what you get).
  • Left click the Enchanting Table to leave EE mode, or type /ee leave

  • You can now connect to the server using www.liquestria.net in the server IP field
  • Live dynamic map is now located at http://www.liquestria.net:8123
  • Hostile mobs no longer spawn in town
  • Endermen no longer pick up blocks
  • New Enchanting tools
  • Easier painting selection
  • In-game time should no longer lag behind
  • You can toggle any light source on/off using redstone circuitry
  • Reserved slots mechanic added
  • New /seen <username> command
  • The /news command lets you review the latest news bulletin in-game

Coming soon:
  • Library
  • Multi-world support
  • Moon Cannon
  • Specific regions near town where hostile mobs do spawn at night
  • Improved sticky pistons
  • www.liquestria.net

Brief plug-in information:

1) Right now, hostile mobs don't spawn in anywhere in the town proper (although they can still spawn underground). This means we can focus more on simply making a good lighting scheme and adding ambiance. Over the coming days, there will be a few specified areas around town where hostile mobs can spawn in, but the roads should remain clear.

2) The new optional enchanting system lets you specify enchantments at the enchanting table, although enchanting in this mode costs more levels per enchantment than normal (the price you pay for knowing what you get).
  • Left click the Enchanting Table to leave EE mode, or type /ee leave

3) You can now select paintings much easier. If you right click on a painting, you can use your scroll wheel to select the painting you want, then right click again (or walk away from the painting) to confirm.

4) You can use redstone circuitry to toggle lights off/on. You can toggle torches, netherrack fire, glowstones, and jack-o-lanterns. To make it work with torches, however, you have to right click on whatever torch you want to be able to toggle while holding redstone dust in your hands. If you do it right, this will give you a confirmation message.

The latter three (glowstone, netherrack, jack-o-lanterns) work out-of-the-box, although the way glowstones and jack-o-lanterns toggle on/off is kind of a hack (glowstones turn temporarily to glass, and jack-o-lanterns become pumpkins).

5) As stated, you can now connect to the server using www.liquestria.net in the IP field. However, you will still need to be set up with permissions before you are allowed to build or interact with the game world in any way. If you're new and you want to play, read the OP. All of it.

Dear community,

When I first started work on this project, I wasn't entirely sure how it would go. Was there sufficient interest? What would we do on the server? What plugins would we have, and how would people want to play? I hadn't ever put together a community server before. I had only rudimentary knowledge of servers and plugins. I certainly didn't know freaking Linux.

A week later, I was administrating a rented host machine in Germany, running Linux scripts, customizing plugins to suit our needs, and hacking away at Java code trying to crowbar petty annoyances into submission. The server was laggy, the fly mod was buggy. The work piled up, and I missed my deadline not once, but twice. It has been long, hard work.

To any of you whom I've been ignoring or happened to be cross with over the past few weeks: I sincerely apologise. It's a character flaw of mine to want things "just so", and with the long weeks of hammering this thing together, there's been little time to just sit back and enjoy it. There's certainly been little time to just watch you all work on awesome things, and enjoy the creativity and the community.

Well, I'm doing it now, and I've come to the conclusion that you guys are amazing.

Let me just summarize the situation for all of you since it bears remembering: We are a sub-community of Minecraft players from a sub-community of My Little Pony fans from a community site for professional StarCraft. How much more niche can you freaking get, and why are there still so many of you working hard to create cool things?

I've said this so many times before, but I'll say it again: This community is freaking awesome, and I thank you all for letting me be a part of it. I wouldn't put in this much time and effort for anyone else.

It has been long, hard work. And it's been so cool.

I take away from this project a great many things. I now know how to work the basics of Linux. I've improved my organizational skills. I'm tweaking scripts again, and I have an interest in getting back to programming. I've learned a bit of patience, and a lot of acquiescence.

But more importantly, it's given me close friendships with amazing people like Tee, who went from lurking in the shadows to saying, "You know what? I'll buy us a dedicated server we can host this on, then spend days and weeks out of my time teaching some jackass Norwegian dude how to use Linux so that he can operate the server whenever I'm not available to exude my field of concentrated win."

It's given me the privilege of working for days on big in-game projects alongside the awesome people in the Shadowbolts: Raelcun, Requiem, Camail, Aranarth, and freaking StarDragon who keeps buying shit for this community when he doesn't have to, I mean the Mare-A-Thon prize giveaways and the Fluttershy plushie weren't enough for you so you had to go buy us a dedicated Ventrilo server, too? I mean what the f

It's given me the opportunity to wander around and look at the creativity of all the participants, to get to know you all better and to enjoy your company.

And it's given me something more to work on, another way to give back to this community which makes me smile every goddamned day.

There is one more favour I'd like to ask of you all. Yes, I'll be fishing for compliments here, but screw it - it's Christmas!

Can you all please let me know what you think about the server, and how you feel about how I've been running it? At least, tell me how you like it here? On the whole... I don't actually know. There's been precious few thank-yous, and few straight up compliments, or even comments. I ask this with apprehensive hope, because this project has been a gigantic task to get off the ground, and it is ever the lamentation of artists to fret over the opinions of those who partake in their labours of love.

Either way: Thank you. Thanks for putting up with me through all this even when I'm being an ass, thanks for making working on this a blast, and thanks for making amazing stuff in our server. You're all great, and I hope I can keep working on this project.

Hello, everypony!

I'm really sorry this has taken so long. This should have been done a long time ago, because this - more than anything else we've done - will enable all of you to build what you want, where you want it. Once these plans come together over the next couple of days, it will be so much easier finding great plots of land for your creations.

I've had multiple conversations with a lot of you over the past few days to make sure your vision of the town comes to life. We seem to be on the same page, so it's time to get this project rolling!

1) Community buildings/events

The area immediately surrounding the town circle will house most of the community buildings, as well as anything else you guys think is a good idea. Currently there are two elevations, upper and lower.

The upper level is home to four major constructions, aligned in the compass directions N/S/E/W:
  • Town Hall
  • Portal
  • Library (Plot for community building)
  • Spawn Platform

The lower level will house... everything else. Right now, Camail's mining business is down there, in the south corner. Notes [1], [2], and [3] show plots of land that are currently not owned/taken, without any set plans for them. The Committee Mark Crusaders had the idea of making some kind of bazaar down there, a trade district, but that's just spitballing and... well, we dunno! Preferably, whatever is down there should fit some kind of community or commercial role, but if you have any great ideas, please go for it! We can help out with the design if you want, or you can do it all on your own, whichever you prefer. We just need some cool stuff down there.

Oh. But no nether brick.

(Also, the staircase to the Sky Hall that crosses [3] will be moved, as we can put that anywhere.)

2) Roads

The big cyan lines (flexible) mark the approximate location of a main road leading through the area. The white lines are just there to emphasise the roads already in existence, as well as to show possible connection points, and these roads will connect to the main road.

The main road will probably go past the buildings at [1] and [3], and possibly connect (in a T junction) to the blue line, heading towards [5]. The blue line marks a road with a bridge across the lake, although as with everything else this is just an idea.

We hope we can get some good looking stuff over at [5] (in fact, Lyfe and gvandur are already over there trying to do something cool with the spire), and the only criteria we have for building over there (besides "make it look cool") is to not terraform the area too much. We like the look of the mountains and the view, so whatever's over there should complement it, not ruin it. =)

When you're looking to build in town, consider the road system. More than anything, that should give you a great idea of where to build. Locate a spot that hasn't been taken, and start creating.

3) More land

Raelcun had a great idea regarding the land at [4]. Right now, it's a big hill, and it's completely unused.

We'd like to flatten it.

Some bit of hill will remain (specifically towards the ranger station area), but if we flatten most of it and make it workable, it would be a great spot for more houses and buildings. It will be nestled against Syndic's forest (which will be expanded) and should provide a great bit of land to build on.

Help!

This is a pretty damn big project, with multiple buildings going up, roads spanning across town, the works. Once we lay down the main roads and connect them to our current offshoots, everyone will have a much better idea of where to build their homes, or whatever else they want to make. I know everyone's still working on their own stuff, but if you have time, your help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can help out with the construction, material gathering, providing ideas for new buildings, flattening the land at [4], or anything, then come brohoof us and tell us what you want to do. We'll try to enable your ideas as best we can.

Special items of interest

  • Who made the sky ship between Potmilk's complex and bloodyn00b's farm? If you're still around, let me know. I would like to lower it towards the ground so that you can finish it, masts and all, and look into putting it somewhere nice.

  • I forgot to add a note for it, but in the top right part of the image, you can see the foundation of some kind of construction begun on the mountain top. Who made that, and why did you stop? That brickwork came up pretty early in the server, but it's apparently been abandoned. We'd love to see it completed, or at least have something go up over there.

If the claimant doesn't return, does anyone else have any ideas for what to put up there? Raelcun's observatory is great, and we should have another eye-catching thing up there.

  • Can we not build any more cubical nether brick buildings already?

Important stuff!

  • Please, please, please don't build any more minecart tracks! Please. As a personal favour to me and everyone else on the server, don't build one. Twice now the server has been lagged to shit, twice we deleted almost a kilometre of minecart tracks, and twice the server instantly improved. The memory leaks associated with some of this stuff seems ever prevalent. We can't be completely sure that they're what's been causing it, but it's the only likely culprit we have.

  • When you build something, put up a sign saying who made it! Most of the buildings in town still lack this one, easy-to-make addition which would help immensely when we're trying to show people around. Seriously. You guys have made some kick-ass stuff, so go in there and put your names on it.

Phew. Okay. To summarize an earlier point, your involvement is desirable, and if you're inclined to help out, there's a number of ways you can be completely awesome:

- Come up with ideas for structures around the town circle, or construct one yourself
- Gather tons of materials for us, as we'll need tools, food, building materials (wood/planks, cobblestone/stone, etc), glowstones, dyes (for wool), all kinds of stuff
- Level the land around [4], making an effort to make it look natural
- Help come up with road designs/layouts
- Design some cool, unobtrusive buildings next to the blue road, on both sides of the pond

You guys have done some awesome work on your own stuff. Once you complete your own projects, it would be awesome of you if you could help us crazy assholes in the Committee Mark Crusaders get some of this community stuff up.

Happy crafting!

Any news edits will go below this line, in case there's something I missed.

Patch notes:
  • New fly mod for Pegasi! Requires installation if you are a Pegasus. Check the Pegasus spoiler for more information.
  • Pegasi take fall damage again
  • Earth ponies can fall from a greater distance without taking damage
  • Admin tools added
  • News plugin added
  • Updated the OP with relevant information

There, now that that's out of the way, here are the specifics.

Up until now, we've been using a plugin which removes fall damage for Pegasi. This was necessary because the other fly mod was made of failure. Now we have the new one installed and it's working beautifully, so we no longer need the fall damage mod. However, the plugin is very customizable, so instead of keeping it as it is or even removing it, I'm putting it to different use.

Earth ponies can now fall greater distances without hurting themselves than other pones (being more athletic and all). This doesn't mean you can jump off tall buildings, but it does mean that you shouldn't take so much damage when using the feather super jump any more.

Default fall damage for Pegasi and Unicorns is down to 5 (from 6). If you fall greater than 5 blocks, you'll start to take damage. Earth ponies can fall from a height of 9 before they start taking damage.

There's also a strange bug with the fly mod that if you deactivate it in mid-air, you don't take fall damage when you land. The fall damage only comes into play if you leave the ground then touch the ground without ever activating flight mode. This is currently unfixable to my knowledge.

If there's any problems with the new set-up, let me know.

      - December 12th, 2011.

It's been a few days since the server launched, and people are really starting to find their way around. It's been a lot of fun watching new things get built, and waking up in the morning has invariably led to some interesting new discoveries.

The classes work as intended, and each have quite a bit of individuality and are generally fun to use. People have been doing good work setting up community buildings, farms, orchards, rainbow cafés and the like, and there's a couple of very cool personal homes. We've been collecting the materials we need to build more complicated things at a remarkable pace (thanks for all the redstone!), and except for that one time our mine ran out of dirt, everything has been going smoothly. People appear to be enthusiastic about this project.

Now we're going to focus that energy more.

Town planning

We need to put down a few ground rules, as well as settle on a general design for parts of the town. Eventually we're going to get a bit more detailed, but for now I'm just going to devise this one blanket rule:

The closer you are to the town circle, the better your constructions have to be.

Whatever you build in the middle of town has to pass initial inspection. Near the outskirts, we don't care that much about what you create as long as it's not too crazy, intrusive, or thematically broken (like a house made of lava as an example of all three).

Right now, there are a couple of buildings near the spawn that don't fit what can charitably be called the "building code", and there's a couple of smaller structures that are even right smack in the path of the main road we want to lay down over the next few days (more on that). A few things will have to be moved or demolished.

One more thing to consider: Whatever you create - even if it's still under construction - please put up a sign saying whose building it is. If you don't, then we won't know who we can get in touch with if there's a problem. If the building is in a bad spot, and if we can't get in touch with you about it, chances are we will just demolish it. If we know who made it, we can get in touch with you and work something out.

(Besides, it's nice to have so we can talk about how awesome you are. I was trying to figure out who made the neat looking wood-and-cobblestone spiral tower house between the town hall and Requiem's farm, and nobody could remember.)

I don't want to sound mean about this, and I hope I don't come across that way. People have been generally good about building things in proper locations so far, with few exceptions. As more buildings pop up, however, it's going to be harder finding good spots for them without a bit of planning. That's where this comes in.

Planning Department
  • Cane
  • Camail
  • Requiem
  • Raelcun (if he wants)
  • Anyone with a good bit of Minecraft experience who wants to participate

We're the guys who are going to make sure the town looks presentable. This aspect takes on a number of roles:

- We'll construct a few "main roads" that smaller roads will connect to. This will help with the overall city planning and design and it will provide everyone with a nice highway to follow once the town size increases.

- We'll design and build new community buildings, specifically stuff in or near the town centre; anything from things like the town hall and the library to workshops and stores).

- We'll collectively decide on whether or not a specific building will be placed in a specific location. For now, that mostly means accepting or denying the construction of specific buildings in the town centre, as well as vetoing any future lava homes.

- We're contractors for hire. If your design or building skills are limited, but you want a good looking house to call your own, get in touch with us. We'll be happy to make your place look 20% cooler.

I NEED TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

1) Whomever is building the Neather Brick structure right by the town hall
2) Whomever built the small cobblestone hut due west of the town circle
3) Whomever built the stupidly big house with the apple in front
4) Whomever built the small wood-and-cobblestone spiral tower between the town hall and Req's farm
5) Chaman
6) srsisnothere aka Sam
7) scintilliaSD
8) AndyPK
9) Dragonicus
10) Kelson
11) Cut this shit out already

Town name

We need to decide on a name for the town. Any ideas?

Changes

  • We'll be making it so that creepers no longer affect blocks. The lag makes them hard to deal with and they keep spawning in weird places and exploding all on their own. It's less creeper management and more creeper damage control. Until the glitches get fixed, it needs to be taken out.
  • The new fly mod is coming in the next few days.

Equestria Daily

Eventually it would be awesome to get this project featured on Equestria Daily... but not just yet. We need to do some more groundwork before we should consider it presentable. A set town layout, more community buildings, more process automation, and some more completed projects in general. Once we have all these things, I'll personally write to them asking if they can feature it. Until then, as a personal favour to me, please hold off. It's still just getting off the ground.

That's all for now. This is your faithful neighbourhood Alicorn, signing off.

I feel like we need a bit more structure for when we are going to build the town though. Having off centered and cluttered plots of land is an eye sore, and we should make an effort so that it doesn't become a problem to begin with. I would suggest having main roads that are grid like, but give people some wiggle room in large plots.

I see unicorns and pegasi rocking face in the air and with spell....the earth ponies need something cool.

We need to establish a currency system, wheat seems like a good choice, or sugarcane, both are infinitely bountiful. Just a suggestion.

Now on to the most important fact:

Cane, building with you and figuring out the spawn was the most fun I've ever had in minecraft. I was supposed to write a paper today, but I spent more than a full days work setting up a functioning mine, then re-structuring the spawning area. I would never trade any of that.

Thank you.

Pisonic_Reaver > As far as i have saw, earth ponies will be the best at mining and carrying stuff aswell as farming, which is quite a good part in Minecraft life ! So I believe a load of players will take them, because it makes life load more easier.

By the way, in case I'm missing to the player list : Dreamslayers.

See ya all, guys !

EARTH PONY edit: I wanna be an earth pony now

I was thinking about being an earth pony, but I want to see what their later states will be before I consider changing.

I would highly recommend using the skin maker doohickey that is linked in Aylear's post. You can generate your own ez pz. Alternatively if you're looking for a premade one, the skindex? I dunno if they have MLP skins in the fashion of ponies I know they do in human form though.
“Children are dying." Lull nodded. "That's a succinct summary of humankind, I'd say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.”
