The Duel Network

TL YuGiOh IRC - Server: QuakeNet Channel: #tlygo

Dueling Network is a free online browser based program with full and instant access to deck creation tools and a competitive ladder to play on. Dueling Network is the tool that many top competitive yugioh players use to test and build decks (test deck ideas without buying expensive cards or using proxys) and at the high rankings it is extremely competitive.

Ignore the cheesy flash intro, dueling network is a powerful and fun tool for experienced yugioh players, players of other tcg games who are interested in trying out a different game, noobs, and players who have since quit the game but might want to return. To anyone who has played or has an interest in yugioh I highly recommend it. We could potentially form a TL clan and try to get high up on the ladder as TL has done in so many other online games.

One major advantage of dueling network is the deck constructor. You can build and save as many decks as you like and the deck constructor has a full card list that adds sets as soon as they are leaked, meaning you can play with cards that are not even out in Japan yet. Dueling Network has its own meta and top players pay attention to how cards do on DN before playing in real OCG/TCG tournaments.

I'll compile some helpful links/information about the game in general for people interested in learning it and I may make a new account with a TL tag in the future. If you sign up, please post your username here and a relative skill/experience level if you can. I'm more than happy to help newer players build decks and in my second post I'll be listing some terms used in yugioh and on the duel network, some helpful links, and a small guide for players who are returning to yugioh after a long hiatus.

Add friends from the "Profile Viewer" menu by changing the username from yours to the person you want to add. I don't know that private group chat is possible but you can PM any user and the system does show which friends of yours are online. Public chat and spectator chats are available as well.

The link again is - http://www.duelingnetwork.com

For someone just getting back into the game and not familiar with synchros/xyz I think Lightsworn is a pretty good deck to play. Gladiator Beasts , Disaster Dragon, and HERO decks are a good choice as well since they use fusion to get their big monsters instead of synchro. But ideally you want to familiarize yourself with the metagame. You can save as many decks as you want on DN so you might want to netdeck a couple archetypes you're unfamiliar with while you work on building your own decks to get an idea of how they play out. I have a netdecked dark world I haven't tried yet and my current gravekeepers deck was netdecked then heavily edited.

My original constructions as of now are my zombie/lightsworn synchro deck, my verz xyz spam deck, and my six samurai deck. I'm undefeated with the six samurai's in rated as well but I've only played maybe four games with it and got really super good hands each time.

Another point of interest for old players is there are now tournament legal versions of 2 of the 3 egyptian god cards (Obelisk the Tormentor and The Winged Dragon of Ra)

I actually just won a duel a minute ago by summoning Obelisk.

Title change, bumping to the top of the forum. TL always jumps all over competitive stuff, am I really the only person who ever played YuGiOh or had any interest in it?

I tried making a deck out of my old one from 2006, and got my ass handed to me big time.

Game has changed so much o:
I think I might play this in my spare time and learn the tricks of the new trade.

How many of the users are old YVD users? I would only come back to check in on some of the playtest group that I was in on YVD. I am semi-interested in going back to YGO simply because of the current ban list means I would have to invest 0 money.

Well I used to play the shit out of Yugioh (Guardian Sphinx, Wall, D-punch + hand destruction = most annoying deck ever)

i think that most people, including me, moved on to Magic the Gathering. I stopped playing altogether cuz it was a waste of money. :S

might try this though. edit: is there a ban list anywhere? Cuz if Black Hole, Raigeki, etc. aren't banned, then I'm not even going to take the time haha Also, could you direct us to some decklists?

I have no idea, I've never asked anybody. Higher ranked players are probably more likely to have prior experience.

That's no surprise. You can modernize a HERO deck which might be familiar to you and do pretty well. I don't remember if Glad Beasts were big in 2006 but they're still viable if you can get your fusions off consistently. You gotta run cards to take care of the big synchro summons I'd say 1 Solemn Judgment, 2 Solemn Warning and at least 1 bottomless traphole if it'll fit. Keep your deck around 40 cards 45 is the absolute most i'd run but only in a deck that mills/draws a lot like lightsworn

Figure out what cards/strategies are owning you and look for cards that can deal with it.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:List_of_cards_to_side_in_against_common_decks

This is a pretty good list of cards that will counter against common formats, think about putting some of these in your main deck if they work well with the rest of your cards or putting them in the side deck.

I also encourage people to post their usernames and some decklists and we can talk about deck building here, I can give a few pointers at least. I'll post one of my decks in a minute.

I learned about the yugioh competitive scene when my friend introduced me in January 2009. That was the time when TeleDaD was running rampant. I still remember EVERYONE running that deck because it was so broken.

Then I remember Blackwings and how annoying those things were. Especially after Black Whirlwind (good thing it's nerfed now). Then I stopped following the scene, only keeping with the latest banlist (Dark Hole coming back made me go wtf).

Maybe I'll try this out.

Edit: Of course, I still remember DARK MAGICIAN!! Fuck that card was so awesome. SDY Dark Magician ftw.

Oh, and fuck BTH. Ruined my life so many times.

Looks like their efforts... were in Vayne. (*sunglasses* YEAAAAAAAAA)

YuGiOh is really hard to profit off of now and a lot of players are leaving and some of the top players that have left are just playing DN instead. Konami really needs to get their shit together if this game is gonna remain competitive in 3-4 years. There are a lot of issues that luckily don't affect most people playing on DN other than some card creation issues with the sets. The tendency has been to make 6-10 really really good cards in a set, 1 that's broken, and make the rest unplayable and whenever a card in a preview gets speculated to be really good or metachanging it gets bumped up to secret rare and costs $200 more than it first did

and the regionals/tournament prizes are a joke you seriously win like a game mat for winning a regional tournament and thats it

gah. I don't understand. Why are Ring of Destruction, Imperial Order, Last Will, Magician of Faith, Dark Magician of Chaos, and Pot of Greed banned? ...even in MTG those cards should be legal. >_<

my decks used always have Last Will, Magician of Faith, and Pot of Greed. :/ so much for recreating my old decks.

Ring of destruction had a few OTK(One Turn Kills) with it, imperial order is pretty broken being able to negate any spell card for free and at least stop spell cards for free for one turn with the potential for more turns at 700 cost each. Last will had a couple of OTKs and would be pretty broken in this format with all the special summoning. Magician of faith i dont really know, i would like it if it was limited and not banned :/. DMOC had an otk with it so they banned it. Pot of greed would be pretty broken aswell at the moment there is so much draw power. I played an exodia deck yesterday that went through 30 cards in one turn.

But you can play people traditionally and all the banned cards become limited if you really want to use them.

Also why is twilight not on competitive decklist?

The most annoying deck out there has to be windup and inzecter i just quit every time they get the combos out lol.

Last Will and Magician of Faith are broken cards. Ring of Destruction was good when it was hard to get out monsters with 3000+ attack but it's just not difficult enough now. DMoC shouldn't be banned I agree.

Pot of Greed is too good as well. I can't imagine plant synchro or lightsworn with an unbanned pot of greed, way way too fast. Duality and Avarice are perfectly good substitutes.

Oh, what's the DMOC otk? I wasn't aware of it I don't think i played during it. I think Magician of Faith could probably set up some really nasty combos but with heavy storm unbanned and mst at 3 it might not be such a big deal and you can always side more MST's or dark bribe or something

Is twilight very good now? I based the decklist more on what's going on in current TCG tournaments irl. Twilight is the chaos variant of lightsworn right

Great to see the game change since I stopped playing.

I use to play competivetly until most of the top players started using soft cheat tactics.
