Hey, is there any way to fix a glitched mouse cursor? This typically happens either during StarCraft II or DotA 2 and I can't stand it. It essentially turns into a box or line, then it reverts to a broken like mouse cursor, a glitched, but still functional. It's just difficult to see and I've just about had it with constantly having to restart my computer just to fix it.
Is there an easy fix for this? Why does this occur at all? |

Have you updated your graphics drivers recently?
If you have, maybe roll back?
If not, do so!Last edit: 2011-12-27 11:48:32 |

This has been an occurring problem for at least a year. I even recall it doing this in WarCraft III (if I recall correctly).

My old pc does this as well T_T annoying when playing sc2 on that. Its essentially just drivers conflicting, reinstalling update is a way to fix the problem.

Mouse glitches like these are often cause by applications in the background sharing the same mouse layer or being given the wrong elevation status.

What kind of blocks? Like artifacts? Failure to render the right font is sometimes the first sign of a total GPU failure. Last edit: 2011-12-27 11:57:41 |

I blame ATI for this stuff happening, its often very annoying, Ive had this happen in games. Tried all the things to fix it as well. Trying to give this PC to my nephew *Aspiring gamer*
+ Show Spoiler +its an old p7n sli platinum board (updated bios, drivers and everything that was made during the 775 socket days, and ran perfect when I used to have nvidia GPU installed.
Literally the text lines turn to solid blocks, no artifacting whatsoever- temps stay below 65c processor stays under 60c happens like once a week sometimes 3-5 times, GPU is a xfx 6850 black edition the 822mhz core clock. |

Medrea, I think he's referring to the SC2 issue that ATI cards have been experiencing where alt + tabbing out of SC2 and similar games will sometimes cause the cursor to corrupt. You can move the cursor to the top right of the screen, and sometimes it fixes it or makes it less corrputed. Magnifier generally will fix it, but it will have a lag effect.

If you don't have ATI card, then nevermind what I said. |

Yeah I guess it is driver's fault. Just keep in mind that failure to render fonting properly can sometimes be the sign of bad VRAM. I once had a 9800GT go to the shitter and the first sign was it was pasting apostrophes' everywhere. Like even on the POSTing screen. |

Why does the GFX matter? The problem has been happening for the longest time and through various different cards, just the same similar programs.
I have an ATI 5850. |

Drivers matter.
I don't have this issue on a 5830, not sure the difference matters. We use the same 5800 drivers though there are differences.
I recommend completely removing all drivers with a driver sweeper and reinstalling and seeing how that works.Last edit: 2011-12-27 12:23:50 |

The issue is, I'll do it and it'll require a full-restart which is how the problem usually repairs itself. Then it'll come back and you'll very likely be in the same spot we are in now.
Additionally, it appears to be a common problem amongst other ATI users. I'm going to go do it and it'll come back 100%.Last edit: 2011-12-27 12:31:14 |

I'm back. Doesn't work, I just somehow reproduced the glitched cursor. |

| It's just an ATI driver problem, it has to do with cursor library being loaded poorly at a point to the edge of a screen, much easier to re-produce with 2 screens, just shake it between the 2 screen after opening up a game or something, but it can still effect people with single screen, although they were suppose to have had this "fixed" ie just made it a bit more rare, after all you see in driver updates sense like the 4xxx series it being "fixed" Last edit: 2011-12-27 17:20:08 |

Btw, if you ever play games like "invisible mouse cursor" you can get beyond 2000 points just by being able to see the cursor when you shouldn't be able to...
11.7 drivers for ATi fixed them though

If you don't use AMD processors ( Intel+ATI or Intel+Nvidia but not AMD+ATI )
// ( This would be like a clean install / Don't do it with AMD+ATI since there's some AMD chipset drivers that you might not want to wipe out )
1.Download the newest drivers 2. Download Phyxion.net stuff 3. Install Phyxion.net stuff 4. Control Panel---> Uninstall ATI drivers 5. C:drive ( Delete every AMD/ATI Folder / some may be in the users ) 6. Restart ---> Safemode 7. Run Phyxion.net stuff ---> ( DriverSweeper ) ---> 8. C:drive ( If there's any AMD/ATI stuff ) 9. Regedit ---> Delete every AMD/ATI entry 10. Restart ---> Normal mode 11. Install new drivers Last edit: 2012-01-06 04:33:38 |
