Back was still fucked this morning so I decided to skip gym for the first time since I got the flu. Normally I'd immediately start feeling better the second I made the decision, but every time I stand up I realize that this time I actually made the right choice. I'm injured fo' realsies -_-
Hoping I heal enough to squat until friday, otherwise I'll just do some machine stuff I guess.
Excuse me hun, but what is your name? Vivian? I woke up next to you naked and, uh, did we, um?

Also, finally going to man up and do power cleans. I know it's what I want and I've just been scared to start.
Why not just go Saturday and have your two days off be on Thurs/Fri?
Also, I just started doing power cleans the other day. They really aren't that hard to learn. You'll be fine.
It's Easter weekend at a Christian liberal arts college gym The Y might be open though. Really I'm only worried because I play Ultimate for 2 hours on Wednesday nights and it kind of takes it out of your legs lol.

It is vanity to love what passes quickly and not to look ahead where eternal joy abides.

Definitely not, relaxing and retightening is likely optimal. As already stated, it's a DEADlift for a reason!

Dunno, I mean you're supposed to draw breath when standing up in order to get more pressure at the bottom, if you take a breath bending over your lungs wont be as full and you'll have less pressure.

you should actually hold your breath and sort of "try to breath out while not letting any air out", if you know what I mean. that creates the most intra-abdominal pressure.

What the hell is the deal with spotters who have a desperate need to participate in the lift? Doing bench press this morning, ended up with two different randoms who insisted on keeping their hands on the bar the whole time and pulling on the last six inches of the lift. I've always been of the mindset that I need to just be grateful that someone is willing to help a complete stranger, regardless of any honest mistakes, but this is disruptive enough to invalidate the workout altogether. What would be a tactful way of saying, "Keep your fucking hands off unless the bar actually starts creeping back down?"

Power cleans are great; I'm pretty sure everyone in this thread who intially felt intimidated by them has voiced a sentiment along the lines of, "I wish I had started doing them sooner!" Power clean tutorial videos on the California Strength website are a fantastic resource. Just out of curiosity: do you have access to bumper plates/Olympic platforms where you lift?

also makes it easier to use good form and makes you less likely to hurt yourself.

Since I almost always go with friends, I don't have to do this often, but when I have to use random spotters I just say something like "Please make sure you don't touch the bar unless I specifically ask for help." If the person still looks unsure, I'll clarify by saying something like "I realise you're not helping with the lift, but I feel more confident if your hands are nowhere near the bar during the lift. Thanks!"
Like I say I don't have to get random spotters often, but the few times I have it's never been a problem. Also, if they're hands do get close to the bar when I'm struggling, I generally shout "LEAVE" if I feel like I can finish it on my own.

I just tell them I want to make sure the bar doesn't fall on me. That normally does the trick, or I just have some awesome random spotters.
I also tell em how many I am going for, so they aren't in the dark. Tomorrow I'll be doing one rep+ on my bench press 5/3/1 cycle. Simple as saying "Hey I'm going for one, anything else is extra."

I've been using the plates under my heels for around 2 weeks and I actually feel a bit more stable with them. I can go deeper but this was my last set and I was just focusing on hitting parallel lol.

Power cleans are literally one of the highest correlations to successful athletes along with vertical. They increase your awesomeness.
