She didn't record the first rep and then filmed a vertical video the second time? You need a new girlfriend.

Haha, vertical video is fine, otherwise everything doesn't fit in She was quite upset about not filming the first rep since I wasn't even sure if I could do one rep, much less two. I didn't mind though. The first rep went up fairly easily so I felt confident I could do it again.

Nicely done Dai. I'll catch up to you in a year hopefully!

Haha, it shouldn't take you a year to catch up. Neither of us have even been lifting for a full year Once your back is healed I'm sure you'll catch up in 2-4 months.

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but re: the belt discussion a couple pages back: if you're going to use a belt, don't allow the habit of setting your back on every lift to slip. The reason this can happen is because while wearing the belt, contracting your abs is enough to get that "squeeze," which feels very secure for the core. HOWEVER, without the conscious effort of also setting the back muscles, the lumbar spine can remain quite unstable despite the belt's "squeeze." Without realizing it, I went through several weeks of sessions forgetting to set my back while squatting and deadlifting, which set me back about a week once I finally tweaked my low back. Learn from my stupidity!

In other news, multiple PR's set this week @BW 180 lbs:
3x5 squat @ 325 lbs
1RM squat @ 375 lbs (went for 380 and got kind of mindfucked at the bottom; I know I'm physically capable, it's just getting past the damn mental barrier.)
3x5 OHP @ 135 lbs (lolol weaksauce, but still, the one-plate milestone feels good!)
5RM deadlift @ 395 lbs (gonna test a 1RM in a few days, I'll keep you fine folks posted)

Unrelated note: where the hell did TheDeadHaji go?

today sucked.

My body wasn't feeling it and well I had to go easy on it, been a couple of hard days.

Front Squat:
20kg, 60kg, 80kg, 90kg, 100kg, 110kg, 120kg,
80kg, 85kg, 90kg, 95kg, 100kg x 3
80kg x 2 x 5

Press: 3 x 5 x 60kg

C&J: 40kg x 2, 50kg x 2, 60kg x 2, 70kg x 6, 75kg x 1

Cleaned 80kg perfectly, and bitched out on the jerk. I hate myself today.

Nyahahaha! Technique isn't great as expected, but I'm happy. It went up easily enough, I could easily have done +5-10kg more. Also, the video is actually my second rep. My girlfriend messed up her camera so that she only started recording the first rep after I put the bar down

EDIT: Since it's posted, I might as well ask. I clearly lift too much of the weight with my lower back and much of that is thanks to the weight being heavier than it should be. However, I also do that a bit with my work weight, so is there anything I can focus on to improve it? Also, are there any other technique problems with the lift?

Nice!!! Dey be 'mirin in the background :D And yeah less back rounding is preferable, but on a max attempt shit happens :-p just don't make a habit of it. I dont deadlift much any more but when i'm cleaning i just try to keep my chest up and hips down which usually helps me keep my back flat. whats your bw?

squat-10
military press-10
good morning-10

stretch-

Snatch- 40-3, 50-3, 50-3, 60-3, 70-3, 80-3, 90-2, 100-2, 105-2, 115-3x1

Haha thanks :D The back rounding is a more pronounced on the180kg lift, but I've noticed it on my 165kg lift as well which is why I thought I'd ask about it. I'll try to focus more on hips down and chest up next time, especially hips down since I haven't tried that before. Bodyweight is 81kg at the moment which I'm happy with. I wouldn't mind bulking up to 85kg eventually but right now it's not a priority.

The gf asked if you guys wouldn't mind doing a form check for her as well. As a bonus you can laugh at a guy doing curls on a balance ball in the background

85kg deadlift:

72.5kg squat:

She'd appreciate any advice, although it looks pretty good to me Since I'm posting videos, maybe you guys can help out with my squat a bit:

125kg squat:

I'm going a bit too far forward with these squats but I'm not 100% sure why. If you look at my feet, they stay flat on the ground throughout the reps so I can't really lean back more without being off balance. Any ideas?

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help and sorry for posting all the videos at the same time!

EDIT: GF bodyweight is around 53kg. Hopefully she won't kill me now

I'm super jealous :D Wish my gf deadlifted, let alone 85kg!!
-Deadlift looks pretty damn good.
-Her squat - looks good, could probably get her hips a bit lower though
-Your squat - good but it looks kinda like you're inbetween a low bar and a high bar squat and arent sure if you should go hips down knees forward back upright or hips back and lower back with more posterior drive lol.

Another thing that helps me with my deadlift is pushing my heels down through the ground if that makes any sense.

She's great! It's also awesome having someone lift with you every session to keep you motivated and keep you doing things properly.

And you're 100% right, I'm somewhere in between low and high bar. I used to squat high bar but it fucked up my back so I switched to 'low bar.' However, when the weights got heavy my wrists were getting fucked with low bar (hence the wrist wraps on the video) so I moved the bar up a little bit While I was waiting for my wrists to get better, I tried high bar again (on 20% lower weight) and my back was really sore the next day, so I'm not to keen to go back to it.

Do you think my current technique will lead to injuries? I've been squatting like this for a few months now and it's the first time that I'm not having any back or wrist pain. To be honest I thought I was squatting low bar and was pretty happy with how it felt until I took that video two weeks ago. Now I'm not sure what to do.

Also, pushing your heels through the floor makes perfect sense to me. You'll hear me tell the GF to push hard with her legs for the fifth rep and that's exactly what I meant.

Haha, it shouldn't take you a year to catch up. Neither of us have even been lifting for a full year Once your back is healed I'm sure you'll catch up in 2-4 months.

Well at this point, I'm not sure if I can deadlift heavy within this year. When I injured my back in January, I thought I'd be back to lifting heavy in 2-3 months but it's been 6 and no signs of getting better.

This thread is nice to be able to read, when I'm fairly decrepid. Unfortunately I'm still losing weight (in the form of muscle mass), down under 100 pounds from around 120. :/ Not sure exactly what to do about it, I"m trying to eat more, but I'm still having limited success with staving it off.

Hahaha, no. I think mostly it's that I'm healing, and I'm inactive so any muscle I did have I'm losing. Was supposed to start physical therapy, but it was postponed because of my lowered neutrophil count.

Doctor basically said it was foregone I would atrophy a ton until I resumed activity. I'm going for 2 mile walks every day, but that does a limited amount.

Yeah that explains it. I probably ought to shift to weights if I want to gain faster, but I'm paranoid about that level of physical stress possibly causing trouble with my crohn's. So I stick to body weight and TKD. But I'm already working on one arm chin-ups and pistols, and do my pushups pretty close handed. So yeah, increasing resistance is getting tricky.

I probably need to get my pistols deeper, but a lot of that is just flexibility.

Probably. I know Crohns can be tough, but I have no experience with it.
