if you haven't used the site in a long time, they probably didn't have routines on there yet anyway. they're something that was added... sometime in the last six months, I believe.
I'm on my phone right now, will update goals thread in a few hours after work and the gym.

Currently at the gym warming up for my first real snatch session. Its 95 degrees in here, i've already done 5 sets of front squats and there's a lineman from our football team watching every move I make. I'm starting with pendlay's warm-up progression.
snatches are fun as hell, everyone who is considering learning the only lifts, do it.Last edit: 2012-08-10 09:49:28 |

I have yet to hear anyone say here they are anything but fun. Everyone should try them!
Are you at that oly lifting gym you mentioned a bit ago you were gonna try? |

Yeah. Trying to track calories, probably hit 4k today, huge improvement. Not the highest quality but fuck it. Unfortunatley I'm going on antibiotics that preclude me from drinking milk, other food will ahve to do. My lifts are really low right now, and posture is still bad, but I'll get better. |

It wouldn't have been an oly gym, it would have been lifting in a retired coach's garage, a lot like I remember you doing a while back. Unfortunately one coach is across town, about 15 miles through some very sketchy housing projects, and the other is a half hour's drive away in one of the suburbs of Syracuse. I don't have a car, so neither is really doable.
I was just lifting at my regular university gym, they've got one platform and a set of cheap bumpers, which is all I need. Wish I could lift where the football/basketball/lacrosse team get to lift though =(. Basically just rows and rows of Rogue bars and bumpers on platforms, with squat racks in front of them, then benches and a few machines upstairs. No student who is not a varsity athlete (and not all of the varsity athletes) allowed.
Either way I got to do some front squats, snatches, some C&J, and abs. Left a little bit of blood on the platform, some skin on the bar, and a whole lot of sweat all over everything. Legs are going to be fine tomorrow, but I can already tell me back will be killing me. |

For about 2 months now I am getting this intense pain in my chest / shoulders when doing dips, bench, and to a lesser extend press and chinups.
Dips is worst, it's really intense on the first rep, and then again equally painful when I am done and release. During the exercise there is pain but not as much as at the beginning and end. Similar but much less painful on bench, press, chinup. The pain goes away really quickly and I don't seem to have any lasting issues from it. It's just really really painful during dips, so much so that I have to make and effort to not scream when I release the bars after the last set.
It's located about where the collarbone meets the shoulder. Feels like it's below the collarbone just where the visible bone "disappears" if that makes any sense.
Any advice? |

I have the exact same problem on dips, zatic. My pain is a little bit more along the top of my traps and goes down my arm. I don't know what causes it, and obviously I don't know the solution either, I just figured I'd echo what you are saying.
Oddly, it isn't there on bench, press, or chinups though. |

Might want to try the injury thread as I think eshlow checks that more thoroughly. Are you doing close grip or wide grip? I guess it doesn't matter too much if bench and press are bothering it too.
I was thinking the pain may be at an insertion point, almost sounds like at the coracoid process? Pectoralis minor led me there. See if this picture helps you pinpoint an area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gray411.png
Anyways, no actual credibility here, just wanting to help Last edit: 2012-08-11 01:41:28 |

For some complete unknown reason, for once my OHP got stronger again. Did a double with 80kg today (and an easy 75kgx4), which is nice, considering I missed a triple with 73,5kg two weeks back. I did only do push-ups and bw-dips in between, so I am really at a loss why. I gained 2kg though, but that didn't help the last few times that happened. I have to analyze my training log to understand...
Ok, I don't know anymore where to post some stupid little stuff like this, so just correct me if I have to post this in the other thread.Last edit: 2012-08-11 06:16:05 |

I think "My OHP is going all funny" is fine in either thread. This would have to go in the other one if it was "Today I did OHP 80kg, and 75kgx4. Then did squats and some assistance exercises and played some basketball, and this is how I feel about that"
I figure this thread is for general chatter, especially about things outside the weightroom (sports, cardio, diet, "my friend did this", girl stories, gym idiot stories, etc.)? |

I find that happens to me with BP a lot. What it is I think, is when you don't lift for a while, your muscle has time to heal up. I truly believe that the <7 days between a chest workout, not to mention whatever other workouts you're doing will not put your chest to 100% potential, rather 95%, so when you come from a hiatus, you are able to lift more for the first workout. |

Definitely. I find that after a heavy bench session, it takes me a full week to recover unless I'm eating 3k+ calories a day |

I am really lost on what to do right now actually. I am accepted to University of Calgary, Alberta, and British Columbia. I have until August 15th to those and a little bit later on UBC, but I'm on the waiting list on Waterloo... I thought my 87.4% average would be just fine, but I decided to slack ELA and ended with a 74%. =/
If I come to Waterloo we definitely will though! |

Hey TLers! Yeah lately I have been putting myself back in track again (all the pun intended!) by running 3 miles a day, doing various kind of pushups and abs workout. But I have come across a serious problem, the traditional way of thinking is that the more calories you burn than your intake = the better! As for now, my regular diet gets WAY hungrier than usual after I started these sessions (been doing them 6 times a week).
Here is the quandary though, if I eat more, I would definitely get more energy in my body and thus translate into a more proficient workout. But according to the tradition, that won't help me to lose a pittance of belly fat that I am trying to rid off. So what should I do?
Eat more? Keep me old diet? The thing that I find if that I get hungrier way more often than the pre-exercising periods.
Oh yeah, my regular calorie intake is about 2.1K

UBC is an excellent school, I got accepted and considered it.
Waterloo is cool though.
Speaking of which, are there any UCSD folks in this thread? |
