Hi everyone, This is a post that is required to have my stream on team liquid! I am a Platinum Zerg, that takes this game way too serious. My goal is to be one of the best. This year i would like to be on the main stage at one of these big tournaments. I feel with the little coaching I get, Dedication, and time, this goal is easily attainable.
I recently joined xo-Gaming and it has been wonderful. I have had a lot of help so far, and a majority of the people that watch my gameplay are amazed im "only plat". However i see diamond soon, and masters shortly after that.
Most of my issues gameplay wise are zvz. I have been working with them in depth, so hopefully this will only be a minimal speed bump in my road.
I am a 25 year old, father of 1, and my 2nd daughter should be here any day. I play 10-12 hours a day, and stream every time I am online. This is a Typical schedule for me.
Wake up play with my daughter, make sure she is fed. Log on SC2, (about 1-2PMEST) play. Cook Dinner and eat (5-630PM) get kid ready for bed (8) Game until around 1-2am
That is daily for me. Usually during the day its not ladder games back to back, and tend to step away afk for a few moments. I do have a family I have to take care of, however usually am back within a few minutes. My daughter will make guest apperences on my stream during the day.
I do not commentate much on my gameplay because I do not have many veiwers. Once I get more viewers, I will commentate more. I also don't mind helping people out at all, so if you want come hang out :D

| Yes, I am a stay at home dad. We weighed in the differences with me working and it just would'nt be logical. The costs would be greater than the reward... :D |

i was gonna give your stream a shot. so far i have been watching for 5mins and you have been complaining to a team mate about how your mechanics are superior to your opponents and you still lose etc.
don't assume you are the best already. question yourself. and play, goddammit! |

| You joined at the wrong time... If you would have stayed 2 more minutes you would have seen me play :D. And if you know for a fact that they were, then you can complain. I was venting. I take this game more serious than a vast majority of the people here. Thanks for coming out, hope to see you again :D |

Just want to address this ignorance.
Most working parents are away from the house for up to 10 hours or more.
This guy is actually at home during this time.
OP good luck with the stream!

I've watched a couple of games throughout the day because I was curious. You should never make the mistake of overestimating your mechanics, which you consider to be your strength. There are probably lots of platinum players who are just as mechanically strong as you are, if not stronger. I am a masters player on NA, but I can easily spot mechanical "errors" or simply areas that I think I perform better in when I watch top top level streams like Polt, but I recognize that overall his skill is far superior and I could never hope to take a single game off of a GSL champion like him. I personally may be more on top of . . say . . production cycles than Polt, but he more than makes up for it with his crisis management, micro, decision making, map awareness, positioning, scouting, etc. It's tempting to just complain when you look at graphs after the game is over and constantly whine about your low money banked and higher average income only to lose. Instead, always always always focus on your weaknesses and ignore what you perceive to be your strengths.
You spam a lot, especially with your mouse, and your mouse precision is less than impressive. A lot of times when more important things should be done you just sit there and flip through your hotkeys. You make a lot of amateur mistakes like sending drones to an extractor that is only half way complete. Your injects are decent, although they falter a lot when you're in fights, but your creep spread is basically nonexistent. Creep spread is such an important part of zerg play that is very mechanically demanding but very rewarding. |

Now to address what Spray said, and finish off my night. Thank you for your concern of me as a responsible adult, a father, a husband, and a gamer. I do not let Starcraft 2 overtake family obligations. For example. Today. I paid rent, took my daughter to the park, went to visit a friend, and still managed to put in a surplus of games. I again, appreciate your concern, but i take care of my family. I have ran into this type of comment before and it don't bother me.
I put in 7 years defending the Constitution of the United States of America, I have been shot at, engaged the enemy, watched my friends die in front of my eyes... Trust me there is a lot that i can handle. So please do not degrade me on a forum. If you feel that I am not living up to my expectations as a man, there are multiple links, and PM's. Please utilize these features, and leave the content of this post for my stream, and not my life. I choose to live this way, and a forum troll, will not hinder, or even remotely bother me. I just choose to address this now, because I am sure it will come up again, and again. This is the only time I am going to address this sort of claim in the forum. Speak to me privately if you have a problem. Thank you :D
I have learned a lot today. I also am going to reiterate. Thank you to Chenchen. Your post was insightful and is the type of response I am looking for. I hope more give this constructive criticism, vice hateful slander, and I know TL does the best they can to keep that away, but it still exists. Thank you for being to the point and discussing my game play. I will use this to better myself in my hopeful career.
Tomorrow, depending on how i feel and how well i sleep tonight, i will be streaming more, like always. I am going to work on the stuff I learned tonight from TicKleMeElmo (xO-Elmo). What decisions i need to make and why I am making them. Like I ended tonight, asking questions and making logical choices. Here is the list of things I am going to work on tomorrow: - Decision Making (why build x-y-z, at this time) (this is a standard part of the game, however, there are minute details i need to work on)
- Injects during the whole game
- Queens Popping as macro hatches pop
- Always producing if Larvae is there, and this includes supply blocking myself
Now 2 things I have to reason with for Chenchen. lol.
I box/Mouse spam, because I am slowly working my sensitivity up. I feel it is a little fast right now, but if I slow down it don't feel right. I am slowly adjusting to the change. I usually am not one to box spam. I just spam 5 and s because it helps me with my injects (with my backasswards logic)
Creep Spread. At the current moment I am focusing on other things. Usually after my daughter goes to bed my house is alot quieter than it is when everything is going. My mind is going in a million directions. Today was mainly decision making, and working on 2 builds. 1 for zvp, and the other for zvz. I understand the importance of creep spread, and can creep up the map in a semi hurry. However, I am going to slowly incorporate this into my game play as i reach closer and closer to diamond, so I can have that early scout and speed advantage :D.
Again, I cannot thank you all for the positive responses. If there is something I can change let me know. As you may have read, I want this to be my career. I don't see this as another "game", but still try to have fun with it. I see it more as a challenge, and I really do enjoy challenges and puzzles. But with patience, helpful insight, and the right direction, i feel this goal shall be obtainable. I am hoping to play for you all on the main stage sometime in the future :D. Only Time will tell.
Goodnight all, hope you stick around :D ♥♥♥♥♥

Been tuning in once in a while to watch some of ur games the past two days I have to say not too bad except some slight floating of minerals in some engagements/battles but thats not something too hard to fix and as u mentioned in your previous posts about getting supply blocked haha. i like your careful attention to overlord spread too
Although im just a protoss (but i like to offrace zerg) and can't say too much but i like how you set some small but achievable goals to get better XD
I wish you good luck in your progress and goals and i wish your family well too haha :DLast edit: 2012-01-04 16:13:20 |

Today I didn't play as much as usual... I played about an hour this morning while I was waiting on my wife to get herself and our daughter ready to go out and about. Bought some new headphones, which are amazing, and a new notebook and pens. Yes I keep notes and stuff of what I need to do and builds and stuff. A lot of scribbles.
So for the first hour I played one of my clanmates. We worked on my zvp and i took 1 game off of him. We were lagging a little, but my zvp is greatly improving. I am loving this fast 3 base, into Roach/Infestor/Broodlords. Its just that first initial push around 8-9 minutes i have trouble judging. Usually I am over prepared, but that is good because I can deny him a 3rd base. The troubles I am running into is lately, they stick in their base or near their 3rd, and on maps they ffe in, the 3rd is not a good engagement area for z. I have to talk with some of my clan mates and figure out what is going on. I have a slew of replays for Elmo.
After we got back, i played a few. I am now consistently facing Diamond level players. I am enjoying it because it is a challenge and I enjoy challenges. There are times still though i find myself asking... How did this player get to this level? But then i realized we all play differently and ladder differently. Some choose to be more macro oriented, or some tend to cheese or all in. Luckley for me I took the harder "macro" road. Don't get me wrong they are both difficult, and I bet your masters level all in will probably destroy me, but the issue becomes when they don't know what to do and try to macro against me I can usually win it. I'm thankful i am finally at the level where they can macro, and I find myself in the tougher situation. Where I can no longer 1A, but have to micro, macro, unit control, injects, or whatever else i have to do all at once.
I am finding that its tougher to multitask when it seems. I either get my injects spot on, and not lose too many units, but my upgrades or tech path gets delayed and that is crucial. I did work on spreading creep in some games, but still am not doing it all of the time. In time this will all be laid out good for me :D
I have been doing better not supply blocking myself, It still happens, but i usually make note of it when i play. If you see me shake my head, sigh, or curse, chances are I know i messed up and am venting to myself. Luckly they make mistakes too so it balances out.
Most of the games tonight were against mid-upper mid level diamond players. I had a few high plats mixed in but myself being high plat, its expected. I won more than 50% of my games, but dont' know an exact number. I honestly don't feel like opening up SC2 to find out. lol. I can tell you that i did play 24 games on ladder, and I won at least 15 of them. The ones that i lost I know how i screwed up, and it usually came down to they pushed, and i droned. Which to me means lack of scouting.
I had a BM protoss i played tonight. Proxy 2 gate, which i held wonderfully, but then he flipped into a 4 gate with robo 1 base all in. Due to lack of scouting, and bad decision making, I took a quicker 3rd, made roaches, and droned. When he pushed, I spammed what roaches and lings I could, and dropped 3 spines. The main battle ensued and he was left with 1 immortal, and 1 stalker. I had 1 roach, 2 spines, 4 lings (2 sets), my main was mined out, and i had 4 drones. Being the Impatient person I am, I tried to attack, and move back into my spines. This was my downfall. I should have had my 4 drones long distance mine, until i could get enough money for more lings, and sat in my base to wait for him to come near me so i could win. But hey, its not everyday you see something like that.
The other big game that sticks out in my mind is a ZvT I played. Lately i have been using more infestors and been shying away from mutas. He did the typical Marine/Tank with drops. The drops really screwed me up. So much i forgot about upgrades, had lings everywhere, droned constently because i was losing them, and basically just lost my mind. I somehow regained composure, got the drops taken care of, spammed ling/bane, and moved to the center of the map. I sent 4 burrowed infestors to his ramp and saw him getting ready to push..... The only thing in my mind was, I need to hit now while his tanks are unseiged. So what did i do? Spammed infested terran all over his army and 1a my main army.... DOH!!!!!!!!!. Thinking about it now, i should have 1a'd with my army of ling/bling first, and then popped them up, and fungled so he couldn't move. It would have easily won me the battle, possibly the game.
Oh well, you win some and lose some... either way you learn!
Thanks for those who came out, for those following this post/thread, and for all of your support. Also big thanks to Team Liquid for letting me ramble on their website. Hopefully this all will teach others instead of just me :D. If anything I said was wrong let me know, that is just from what I assumed I did wrong. Most of it was situational but who knows when I will be in that situation again :D.
I hope to see you all tomorrow!!!!
Goodnight Team Liquiders,
Andy "Serafeim" Stewart

Tonight went horribly. Lost more than I won, but hey it happens. Its been a long day. My wife should be popping anyday now, and her grandfather is not doing well health wise. So a lot has been on my mind. Other than that, had a great morning with my daughter, and got to game so i cannot complain too much.
Games today were mostly all in's or cheese... Missclick here, Missclick there, Missclicks everywhere. My hand is hurting more today, so i have to go to the docs to get some more pain meds.
I did lose more than I won today however, I learned a lot. So therefore i win right? After talking with Elmo i decided tonight i wanted to learn how to all in. It is an intrigual part of gameplay. I know I have the macro down. I proved that playing with diamonds. When it comes to cheesing or all in builds however, I am severly lacking. I devoted so much time to learning how to macro that I cannot cheese or all in. Plus if it comes to a 2-1 situation in a BO5, weather you are losing or winning that set, you can either go for the quick kill and win, or expect the quick kill and turn the set back into your favor. Its all apart of this grand ole scheme of things. Also like elmo and myself discussed, one better way to beat all in's, is to learn the in's and outs of them. For example, before going to Iraq, we learned extensive ammounts of information about the Iraqi people, culture, and other information that seemed trivial, but helped a lot.
So with coaching tonight I effectively learned how to ling/bling all in, in a zvz setting... and since I know how to defend this play, i know different ways to employ it, or catch him off guard. I also worked on a ling/roach all in for zvp. I am unsure what exactly to do in a zvt situation, but i know some macro stratigies that I am sure I can turn into an all inish build.
Tomorrow on ladder you will see me doing these all in's more often then macro. Since I am trying to learn this style of play, so i can defeat my enemy better :D
Hope to see yall tomorrow, and for those who stuck around today, I thank you alot.
Andy "Serafeim" Stewart
