I've never been able to get into Shin Ramyun. The noodles are just way too thick for my taste. I do admit the flavor packets are good, but that doesn't do anything for me when I can't stand the noodles.

I always like trying new combinations, but my current favorite is:

Noodles into boiling water, pre-seasoned with a few dashes of hot sauce (I tend to use either normal Tabasco, Habanero Tabasco, or Crystal)
3:10 timer started
Liberal usage of hot sauce (I won't ever do it again, but just last week I used an entire small bottle of Tabasco in one sitting)
80% of seasoning packet
Full Jalapeno/couple slices of onion chopped
2:00 - 4 slices of cheddar cheese
1:00 - 1 egg, stirred

Makes for a good soup, with just the right amount of spiciness. Generally enough to make your nose run a good bit, but not enough to make you feel sick afterward (like when I used the full bottle of hot sauce.) I like to add thin slices of steak if there's any left over, and whatever else I think will be good inside.

1:00 - 1 egg, stirred

You just put that in the soup, raw?

I, personally, add in 1 can of vegetable beef stew.

However, I really came here to say that I use to work in a prison and the inmates could buy raman noodles. It was the primary food item they bought. These guys were goddamn Raman Chefs to the next level. They could buy a large number of things to use, various spices and beans (high mexican population), and various dressings (mixing ranch was a big thing). I saw some pretty crazy combinations that made me want to puke, but nevertheless they were creative as fuck with their raman @_@

Does it really matter how you prepare a $0.15 meal? We don't have Ramen in Aus.. Well as far as I know we don't, but we have this other stuff. I can't think of the name right now, but I'll edit this when I can remember, you can get box fulls of them from asia grocery stores, and it has 3 sachets of sauces 2 spices. But man 'tis pro yo!

Mi Goreng - Instant noodles with a set of seasoning oil, spice, chili powder or chili sauce, fried onion, and soy sauce. It's more convenient.

It had a cult following at the high school I went to in NSW. All you need is hot water and a box you can tip the water out of before mixing through the flavourings. We didn't add anything extra in school, but nowadays I sometimes add fried tempeh.

We definitely have Korean and Japanese ramen as well though, the grocery store outside my college sells it - not Top ramen though.

Good enough for Firebathero, good enough for anyone.

It's not subbed but it's pretty self-explanatory. He turns off the heat right after putting the eggs in.

They call these creations "spread".

They include anything you can think of, any real food, any kind of sauce, and things like pork rinds, cheetos, cinnamon rolls... you name it.

It is adored so much that ex-cons continue to make it outside of corectional facilities.

Having never been to jail before I usually find it disgusting, but I have seen some tasty spreads.

I've made some pretty amazing ramens in the last few years. My friend calls me the Ramen King actually.. lol.

Just one of my more normal ramens - Ramen (I use the normal American stuff) - Onions, Garlic, Mushrooms (all sauteed), cooked chicken or any type of meat, cheese (that has been cut down into extremely small pieces), spinach, Sriracha hot sauce, a few other types of seasonings and that's it. For the onions you can use white, green, it doesn't matter. If you want to spice it up, sautee the onions garlic and muschrooms with a LOT of butter and mix it with some jack daniels. Pour it in and you've got some amazingness.

If you want real ramen go down to any asian market and pick up beef/chicken/pork stock and get non-dehydrated noodles (for freshness) and add whatever else you want.

I'm thinking of using spicy ramen (shin ramyun?) and making a mixed beans + Ramyun combo.. the idea is that once the ramen is eaten you are left with spicy bean soup.

thoughts?

I prepare my ramen pretty simply. I just use the maruchan stuff. Cook normally (boil, insert brick, add flavor, drain excess water). Then I add in some sliced meat (any works. I prefer ham) then throw in some shreded cheese and some crackers. Easy to prepare and super tasty.

My personal fave is add your hot sauce of choice, parmesean cheese, and the egg+tuna already discussed. Extra cheese if you are high.
