| I was really considering buying an Ultrasharp monitor, but I play on my Xbox 360 a lot so I'm not sure if the lower response time would be a good idea. Can anyone recommend a monitor for £200 or less? |

| Lower response time is a good thing... ghosting is not going to be a problem with the 2012 Ultrasharps. |

This might sound really silly, but how do I find out which Ultrasharps are new/from 2012?
EDIT: I'm guessing its the 2212, 2312 and 2412 models?Last edit: 2012-02-17 01:44:38 |

| Yes, the first two digits indicate size while the last two digits indicate year. U is for ultrasharp, and HM is for 1080p. |

| The monitors do look really nice but I can't help thinking I'd be better off going for maybe a 120Hz monitor. Although the colours are fantastic on the Ultrasharp monitors, I tend to do more gaming and web browsing than photo editing. |

A lot of higher-end TN panels have colors that are just as good and about as accurate if calibrated, assuming that you're looking at them straight on and aren't looking at something too large like 27". Often times you get better contrast ratios too. The lower responsiveness of IPS panels with proper overdrive is maybe overstated though. It's noticeable if you look for it, for sure, but probably not an issue in real use unless the real use involves a lot of quickly-moving images and you're sensitive to it.
A good 120 Hz monitor will look better for gaming, but it will be more expensive. If you're using it for an Xbox then there won't be much point to having 120 Hz though. |

| I just wanted to add that my 27" inch is too big for sc2 and I have been trying to play in a smaller window, but it sorta annoys me. Perhaps buying a $130 monitor for gaming. |

I'm beginning to lean towards the Samsung S23A750D/ASUS ProArt/Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM. My current monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 223CW, and I do like Samsung in general. I haven't seen TN vs IPS in person to really guage things, but I imagine BestBuy has one or two on display. Does anyone here have one of the A750Ds?

I've used one. Get the 700D because its cheaper and uses like exactly the same panel. Samsung, while making a good panel, has awful hardware design IMO so there isn't much point paying extra for it.
If you can push over 60hz constantly, the Samsung is a good panel for gaming. If not, the Ultrasharp is a good "go to" monitor. Best Buy should have one or two matte IPS monitors on display...they'll be the LG/ASUS IPS monitors but that should give you a decent idea. |

I was just checking the Dell website for the U2312HM and the U2412M and they're both on sale? U2312HM looks to be $199 CDN and the U2412M is $299. ("You save $70 and $100" respectively) Is that a decent price? I'm thinking of picking up two or three of one of them.

| Yes, it's decent. U2312HM has been as low as $180 and the U2412M has been as low as $270 iirc. |

Are there any compelling reasons to get the U2412M over the U2312HM besides the inch? I'm using 22" , 16:10 monitors right now (Samsung SyncMaster 226BW) and I don't feel as if size is an issue, especially if I have three of them. :S
Edit: The U2312HM just sounds better from the TFT review. Lower input lag (not that I think the difference between the two will really matter) as well as the 16 being more suited to watching videos.Last edit: 2012-02-17 10:40:16 |

| Not really. It just comes down to whether you want 1080 or 1200 vertical pixels. |

| I'm running an i7-2700k and about to get another 6850 for Crossfire, so pushing 120hz constant shouldn't be a huge challenge or anything. |

Yeah that system shouldn't have problems pushing 60+ FPS in most games. The two best options are the Samsung S23A700D or Samsung S23A750D since they can do 3D with AMD cards.
Unless you must have the S23A750D's design, I seriously recommend the S23A700D. It should be cheaper and will offer exactly the same experience as they use the same hardware. Samsung gimped their whole lineup by making all of them VESA incompatible so there's no point paying extra for the 750D/950D. |

I am looking for a decent TN panel to buy. I'm looking at 22-24" and the monitor needs to have at least 1 DVI, 1 HDMI and 1 VGA port. Something relatively thin would be great as long as it's good for gaming. Got roughly a £175 budget and will be looking to get dual monitors in the future.
Any recommendations would be great. Thanks. |
