Paid for it, watched it today- one of the best times I've had watching a stream. The interface was fun and I didn't mind the lack of crowd, because I know there will be one at the pro circuit games later this year.

Believe me though, if I had the job I had 3 months ago, I would not have paid $20 for a weekend of games. Its definitely a bit much from a personal perspective, but think of it this way: People pay $10 to watch a movie for 2 hours. They pay $100 to get into Disneyland for 8 hours. $50 for a decent dinner for 2. This really isnt TERRIBLE for a weekend, if you have the time to take it all in.

Think about the costs. Renting that loft in NYC. The accommodations for your staff. The flights for players. Food. The equipment. Holy shit... all that stuff. And you get like say, even a lot, 20,000 people paying for the stream. Think about it. It doesn't work out. The sponsors and other events are still picking up a lot of the slack.

I think it's funny people complaining about lag when they didn't even pay for it I had 3 streams at 480p at a time, and the 4th stream at 1080p (whatever game i was actually watching at the time) no lag at all on any of them. It was worth the $15 I paid for sure (gold member ;D) and I also went to barcraft on Friday. MLG did great here.

You read what i wrote, right? I wanted to check if its worth the money, so i could consider to buy the next pass. But if i have to stream 480p to do so from europe, its def. 100% not worth it (edit: for me).

They didn't really rent the loft. That is their own offices. The staff probably live close by since it is held at their offices where they normally work. The equipment and stuff was probably already there.

My 2 cents, prolly not worth it, but hey.
I will not pay for these events as of today, they already have a income of Pepsi and other big brands.
If you can't pay the accommodation and other costs by normal way's, you'r doing to much with the resources you have.
This is NOT helping E-sports in any way !
If you gonna compare it to football, cinema and other major events like diner and if not.
This can't be compared in any form or way, these organisations have multi million dollars invested if not billions in building accommodations, they have a year full of costs of maintenance and such, they have hundreds of people working for them a year through.
The funny part here is even, you can view many of these things free on national TV...
I understand that MLG have a bunch of people working on the concept but, don't compare it with a football stadium or a cinema's as that's lemons and apples.
Until now: Be conceited and have an exaggerated sense of your own importance.
I wonder what you gonna tell Pepsi and such, we had this weekend 10.000 viewers paying 20€ seeing your publicity, instead of 100.000 and if not more ... (I know I just pulled these numbers out of my behind, but it's to make an example.
It is better to have something that is certain than take a risk and lose everything.

No, I'm certain that these actions make e-sport gonna fall in the big and great e-bubble and gonna bankrupt themself !
Let the Beast go !

I agree, this combined with the fact that players and casters have lost their passion for the game is going to be the inevitable final blow that will bring an end to E Sports stagnating its development leaving it in utter shambles with very scarce hope of recovery for years to come.

I don't understand why the gold and silver memberships were removed in the first place. If anything go back to that model and up the price on them a bit.

20 bucks for an event is a bit much for me, especially considering I'm already a subscribing member with a reoccurring payment. I understand that I get to see some MLG events with that membership, but after such a lull in content from MLG lately, I feel I'm entitled to this as a part of my subscription. Literally nothing has come from my membership over the past few months, yet I've still paid. So to see the first piece of content to come my way in months, I have to pay AGAIN? After I've paid all this time for virtually nothing? No thank you, and I doubt I will continue my membership in the future. This is a poor business model, as I'm sure you've already gathered. Subscriptions or PPV, not both.

If I have a subscription, I shouldn't have to pay for PPV content, period. If you need to adjust subscription prices for that to be profitable, then so be it.

I wish twitch.tv wasnt the one hosting this is my only complaint. And that's only a problem because they have me global banned so I can't even pay to watch MLG because I can't use "their services".

At least my gold membership will work for regular events ^_<

I've got to say that the chat for the PPV is actually for once not mind numbingly painful to read and quiet enjoyable, no big surprise considering most of the trolls are either very young, unemployed or simply to stingy and entitled to feel the need to pay.

Is there a way to bring down the quality on the vods? I actually can't watch them within in a reasonable time frame as it's going to take an hour just to load one.

...I have to ask, what the hell are you talking about? Players are getting better and better for the sake of competition (and saying they enjoy the challenge it brings them in both winning and defeat) and casters are also entering a more analytical posturing (from what I watch, so mileage may vary) more often which shows not only are they passionate about what they do but they are also passionate for the sport they are casting.

Singularity is at hand...

Been catching it a little bit at a time from events and barcrafts. Haven't noticed lag and it has looked good to me so far.
What does it matter how I loose it?

I hope the caster bit is a joke?

I use chrome and opera as standard, im not using it "to bypass PPV". And, yeah. Its MLGs "fault", who elses would it be. People who use chrome? Its the first time ever, that i could watch something for free (didnt do it though, because it lagged too badly - even tho a german was playing at that time) which actually was not supposed to.

So, while i dont really know a lot about websiteprogramming, if a simple "browserchoice" can screw your whole PPV-model, well, i guess the webmaster/engineering team should be fired then. Its not like you need to configure stuff or hack into something - its just a normal browser which is pretty common.

Apparently you can't read. I said "Google Chrome has an add-on which allows you to watch it." And it isn't MLGs fault, it's Twitchs fault.

MLG finally maintains a stream that doesn't lag or shut down, and you all think it's worth $20. Good lord you people are naive.

are there any numbers out on how many people bought a ticket for this event? would be interesting to know. althoug many people dont like the ppv model I really hope that it will work out fine so the MLG wont be in the red numbers anymore because they delivered the absolute best SC2 events so far.

But it lagged lol. I had to watch in 480 after I followed ASUS in 1080.

Yeah, and i told you, you dont need an addon. About MLG/Twitch, youre right, forgot that it works over twitch. But it sounded like youre blaming people for using chrome.
