lol, Saints finally get a QB who knows how to line up under the Centre and not the Guard and they go call him "good not great" then lowball him.

To the people that think the players involved in these bounty pools (i.e. a majority of the league if what some retired players are saying, src: Fred Smoot former LB for redskins and vikings i think) were doing it for the money, which from what i hear was small amounts, this is not the case. They viewed it as more of a trophy and a tangible acknowledgement from their peers that they had made a great play or hit in the game.
I equate it to playing for change in poker. Nobody around the table cares too much whether they win or lose as the amount is negligible, but it does make people play more realistically than if it was just empty chips as there is something there to be won and lost. The person who does eventually win does have the acknowledgement from around the table that he was the best in that game.
Some people might respond to this by saying there are already being paid and why do they need more motivation to play well. To that i will make another small analogy, that also doesn't fit as snugly as i would like it to. At a low paying job, do you give a shit if your manager gives you are certificate of greatness or would you care more if he just handed you a couple bucks and said goodjob?
In summation, i do not agree with a coach handing out bonuses, which turns my last analogy to shit but whatever i'm not changing it now. I see the bounties as a motivation from peers, but when it comes from higher up it seems odd and corrupt.

tldr: Bounties between players for small amounts of money doesn't bother me as long as it isn't for injuries just hits and big plays. Bounties from coaches=BAD.

Gregg Williams instituted the bounties and Sean Payton received email updates about it and apparently had full knowledge, and they were cited as saying they were offering bigger rewards to players who put people on stretchers, which is as dirty as it goes. It is exactly as bad as it sounds, if not worse as we don't even have the full details yet. It's absolutely despicable and the Saints are about to have arguably the worst offseason in nfl history, short of shit like the Browns losing their entire franchise.

Those are relevant to the Saints themselves. So is Morten Andersen and Archie Manning, but they aren't all time greats like Brees. The only other all time greats the Saints have ever had who are KNOWN as Saints are Willie Roaf (and even then people don't care enough to glorify Offensive Linemen) and Rickey Jackson, but I bet most of you don't know who he is (one of the best OLBs ever, but wasted most of his years on terrible saints teams that couldn't win a playoff game. Went over to the 49ers to finally win a ring).

There's no Hall of Very Solid, no matter how much we love Deuce (Joe Horn was a fucking tool and I hate him)

Willie Roaf was an all 90s offensive tackle for sure, I thought super highly of him when he was with the Saints and the Chiefs, but I do see where you're coming from

Any Jags fans out there?

*cricket*

Anyone? Anyone besides me?

*cricket*

Man it's so lonely bein' a Jags fan. I just wanna see us get some offense this year. Top ten defense in the league last year and dead last in passing offense.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

Interesting to hear that Brees is thought of as the only relevant Saint by a Saints fan.

I know they were never "God tier" like Brees is at QB currently

God tier? Not according to the Saints' GM.

Unfuckingbelievable. If the franchise tag wasn't enough of an insult, that should be.

Brees was offered a contract that is at least equal to the average earnings of Tom Brady and he turned it down because it wasn't front loaded like Peyton's contract is. He will sign a new deal before the season starts and all this media talk of doom is simply each side trying to haggle a few extra conditions.

Get a backloaded contract is garbage. Look at what happened to peyton this year, there's no guarantee you actually get to play for the vast majority of pay for your contract.

This is really funny. It's almost as good as the Aaron Brooks backward pass. I feel sad for Brees though.

I say this purely as an outsider (and wouldn't mind to hear some opinions of Saints fans) but I can't help but wonder if saying Brees is good rather than great was an implication that Loomis believes it's Sean Payton's offense that's the real star there.

I've always felt that Brees runs the Saints offense masterfully, and what he's done the last couple years is remarkable. That being said, when I've cheered against New Orleans, I've always felt that it was the offensive system beating us with the help of fantastic quarterback play- rather than a fantastic quarterback beating us with a good offensive gameplan. (like Vick when he was with the Falcons, both Mannings in different regards).

Ultimately, I don't watch enough Saints games to really have any idea what I'm talking about. Make any sense Saints fans?

I don't think Loomis has ever been particularly laudatory towards Brees, plus I think it's part of a very stupid bargaining ploy. But it seems like a case of bad organizations staying bad organizations, despite several years of great success.

I thought Loomis backtracked to save face on that already as he should or risk being laughed off the planet.

And what about the whole Brees turned down a monster deal last year that would have paid him like a great'? Unconfirmed rumor/no source?

Oh, and Dandy Randy Moss is coming in for a workout? lol

Nope, you're absolutely wrong. Brees is as much a system quarterback as Brady or Peyton. Calling Brees a system quarterback is the utmost disrespect to an amazing player.

Manning to be let go by the Colts. I hope he isn't done; I think he's still the best QB in the game... And now he's back. For revenge.

Historically, the great QBs have had career years when their ability to the "the best" has been called into question:

Joe Montana had one of the best statistical season of his career the year the 49ers brought Steve Young aboard the dynasty train in 1987. (3,054 31 13 TD/INT ratio, and a 102.1 rating)
Brett Favre's best statistical season came with the Vikings, after he switched to his old team's rival (4202 yards, 33 7 TD/INT ratio, 107.2 rating)
Drew Brees had his best season as a Charger when Philip Rivers was drafted (3159 yards, 27 7 TD/INT ratio, and a 104.8 rating)

Given this, and what we all know about Peyton Manning, I anticipate him to light up the league this year. So glad I traded for him in fantasy when the asking price was super low

I actually feel like Tom Brady is the best system quarterback to every play football. If you look through his body of work, he's never really played his position beyond the demands of his offensive system (ball control in the super bowl years, air-coryell style with the Josh McDaniels era etc). Unlike Peyton Manning, I've always felt that Brady performs whatever his offense is asking of him at the highest of levels, but ultimately, that still would make him a fantastic system quarterback. This would be the opposite of Peyton, who had it proven for him by last year's Colts that he was the Indianapolis offensive system.

I questioned Brees because, quite frankly, he did not play remotely this well in San Diego. I don't want to compare/pass blame on the quality of offensive playmakers (as I feel Saints receiving core washes with having Tomlinson in his prime running for you), but the screen and misdirection heavy passing style is something I always attributed to Sean Payton's scheming, rather than a skill Brees brought with him from San Diego.

my opinion of non-system QBs currently playing: Peyton Manning. Mike Vick. Jay Cutler

a system QB is a derogatory term used to imply that a person isn't really that good, someone else is responsible for success. To call Tom Brady a system QB or Drew Brees a system QB is disgusting.

I guess anyone who plays in a west coast offense is a system QB as well.

Anyone have any guess where he's going to go?
Miami seems to make most sense to me, or Seattle. He could help lots of teams in the NFC but I can't see him going there and meeting his brother in the playoffs.

Maybe this is wishful thinking by a dolphins fan but I have a hunch that Manning goes to dolphins and they also draft Tannehill. That way they got the last good 4-5 years out of peyton and will have Tannehill all trained and ready to go.
