hello everyone,
i looked on google and of course on other thread in this forum, i haven found anything similar to my problem so i decided to post and ask for help.
Last june i bought this razer blackwidow, i never had any kind of problem with it, but today when i started my computer, the keyboard was dead. I have windows 7 (with all proper updates), and iam really wondering why it doesnt work.
here is what i did :
- i unplug and plugged the keyboard in other usb slot, nothing happened, sometime there is the usb sound thing, sometime nothing happen. All the usb slot perfectly work with any other device.
- i uninstall the driver and reinstall it, nothing good from this either.
- i tried to update the firmware, as some ppl suggested that on google, but i cant start the setup because the computer dont detect the keyboard at all.
- if i open then profile manager software for the keyboard, it can open but then it auto shutdown because computer cant detect keyboard.
- lights on keyboard arent on either.
- i rebooted many times.
- finally i havent installed nothing at all to could have change any configuration about anything, last night i was playing kingdom of amalur reckoning, all was perfect and tonight not a single button work on the keyboard.
So anyone has any idea what i can do to fix this? or the keyboard is simply death? If it is dead, anyone has some experience with returning device to razer? i know alot of company are hardass when it come to return.

| Well I guess you could try it with another computer BUT to me it sounds like the keyboard is pretty much screwed (unless you have some serious soldering skills and dont mind ruining any warranty though)... Did you buy the Blackwidow directly from Razer? If not it may be easier to try and get a replacement through the store you bought it from. Aslong as you havent been to rough/spilled anything on it getting a replacement should be easy enough especially since it's been less then a year since you have bought it. sadly this is the only "test" that i cant do, i do not have a second computer at home, eventually i could do this in the next days, but i was hoping someone could come up with an easy fix, this really piss me off, you spend good money on quality product and they shit in your hands.

Razer BW's are known for this kind of thing throughout their whole product line of mechanical keyboards. You should of done more research into mechanical keyboards before buying one of theseLast edit: 2012-02-14 12:38:49 |

If you want a quality product, don't buy Razer. They are very hit or miss. The only way to know for sure if your keyboard is dead or not is to try it in another computer. Or you could just try to get a replacement from the store you bought it from or Razer themselves, assuming you are still under warranty.

| Well Razer does have a few quality control issues...... Since the keyboard lights aren't lighting up it makes me think that there is a broken connection somewhere as it means the keyboard isn't receiving any power. This is something you cant really fix easily. The other thing is if you do convince Razer to replace it could still take weeks before you actually receive a new Blackwidow |

| This happened to me a month ago, I tried everything, but eventually i just sent it back to razer (8 months after i bought) and within 4 days i had a new one |

This is why you never update firmware on any device unless you absolutely need to. My Blackwidow is working great, so I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
Actually, what DOES the updated firmware do? I'd only try it if it increased the Blackwidow's 2KRO to something higher.

| I was having the same issues, but I just now found a very easy fix. I don't know if it's temporary/permanent, but my Blackwidow is working perfectly now. All I did was open task manager, scrolled down to razerhid.exe in processes, and ended the process. Keyboard instantly gets recognized, light turns on, etc. I'll post back here if it turns out to be a band-aid fix. |

I had an issue like this in the past with my Blackwidow (the standard one, but it may work). Try holding down the Fn key as you plug the keyboard in, then I you should be able to run firmware stuff (assuming its the same problem I had).

Hi,
I would just like to add this fix works for most Razer product that experiences this issue:
--> Input device appears "dead" when plugged into a USB. --> However computer still recognizes device as "Razer Bootloader."
I had the same issue with my Razer Nostromo and Lycosa, this fix worked perfectly for both. |
