Hey guys, first post here
Since about two weeks my computer has been crashing, thanks to an overheating processor. I've also noticed that for some reason, my fans don't blow harder when my CPU is getting hot, which then ofcourse leads to overhating and crashing.
I've tried downloading new drivers, I've tried speedfan, OCCT, AMD OverDrive, but nothing seems to work.
These are my system specs: CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Ram: 4GB (2x2) DDR3 Mobo: Asrock 870 Extreme 3 GPU: Ati Radeon HD 5770 1GB HD: Samsung 1TB HD103SJ
I'm getting kinda desperate because if I play anything which is kinda heavy my computer will just die after about 15 minutes. Please help!

go into your bios, and find the CPU fan option with PWM or Volt, choose PWM, also make sure your heatsink/fan are on properly, and that you haven't bumped your pc and the heatsink came lose. If you find that it is lose then buy thermal paste/ reapply and put the fan back on.
|
What PCU cooler are you using? And is the fan using a 3-pin or 4-pin connector?
|
Heatsink or fan didn't come loose, my CPU cooler is a standard 4-pin fan

Hook it straigth into the psu for maximum power!
Don't know how this works for the cpu fan, but ive done it for most my fans, it's noisy, but gets the job done on my old computer...

Right now I'm at school and I'll be away from home this weekend so I'll try on monday.

What do you mean by standard ? the amd boxed fan? Maybe its not running faster because it is already running on maximum ? I do not recommend OCing with the standard AMD boxed fan. I suggest maybe getting a new couler/fan for your CPU, they are generally more silent and cool way better.

check first the temperature of your cpu with coretemp for example.. its if truely going up to the max tdp...
then you might have to reinstall the cooler. (for the manual online) clean out the heatspreader of the cpu, polish up the bottom side of the heatsink and then use some thermal compound.
Then try again...
if this doesnt work then your motherboard might be broken (if you put your bios everything on default). it should automatically shutdowns if the cpu is gettin too hot. and the speed of the cooler when go on default.
I assume you use boxed coolers right?
Or alternative way is... just buy 1kg of copper and paste it in your cpu. (Scythe mugen 3, Noctua, Phanteks PH-TC14PE)
No guys dont advice him to watercooling, you might aswell advice him to buy some LN2.. ps. check on tweakers.net/got thats the biggest dutch nerd community .

if you have the boxed cooler ... well it sucks. mine could barely keep the cpu at 60° even when it was brand new. now that its dusty it goes mad hot without my undervolt settings (but the standart voltage is WAY too high anyways).
what temps do you get? you sure the cooler doesnt go up? but considering how noisy it is that should be easy to know i guess...
bandaid fixes are clean out dust and undervolt(should do that anyways). but if your fan really refuses to speed up then this obv wont help much..

What temps are you hitting, what crashes are you getting (what BSOD codes) Most likely it's just that you have a shitty cooler (stock) combined with slow fan speed setting in bios (is the fan header PWM or molex)
Most likely it's not a temperature issue causing the crashes, and more likely something else (something isn't getting enough voltage to stay stable under load, or possibly a weird software issue, probably drivers)
Anyways, I'm sorry to say that your problem is almost guaranteed not a problem with your CPU overheating. The AMD chips get hot, and rated to run hot, so the chip shouldn't shut itself down until it reaches some pretty crazy temperatures (over 75C) Download RealTemp and Prime95, run a small FFT torture test for a bit, see how hot your CPU gets, and if it crashes after 15 seconds, we can safely say that it's not a GPU related issue, if it doesn't crash, then it's a GPU related issue. If you get high temps, and it crashes an hour or so, post the temps and the BSOD details here, and then we can help.
Edit: Oh, and btw the only fan that would speed up when your CPU got hotter would be the fan on the CPU heatsink itself, and you probably wouldn't be able to hear the difference in speed if you have other case fans running.

You didn't overclock it, did you?

believe me, you arent only able to hear the difference, it jumps into your face and screams" HERE LOOK IM RUNNING FAST NOW". what i wanna say is that the thing gets damn loud.

Okay guys so i got home and decided to boot up my computer and what happened is: It gave 2 beeps rapidly after other then about 2 seconds later 8 more beeps and then after about 10 seconds an additional beep. My screen wont display anything. So i opened up my computer and saw that on the motherboard there were two red lights, one with an on button (you know, one of those circles with a pin in the top) and a light that said reset. I restarted the comp and upon restart it started spewing out a ton of 1 letter 1 number and 2 number codes on some sort of display next to the lights i just mentioned, coupled with the beeps. Would it help you guys to note down the codes the display gives them and write em down here?
I would really appreciate some help right now.

So i took a look at the dr debug codes that came with the beeps and i got this: 1 beep at 2A Then rapidly following 1 beep at 2E Then after that an additional 8 beeps at 2E And then 1 beep at the end, which i figure means that the message has ended (because after this no more dr debug codes appear either.
Also i noticed that when i leave the pc on for about a minute or so, the hard disk starts making sounds as if its working on something, and it seems that some of my fans start turning faster too.
This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with my display maybe? The gpu or the ram?

Okay, so I fixed the display not working etc, by just plugging in my video card right. -_- Derp. I'll see if for some reason this fixes the processor issue too, and I'll report back to you.

I've noticed this:
After my computer crashes (yes it still happens, and with 'crashing' I mean it just turns off, no error message or anything.) The fan will go really high up until the moment windows is done loading. As soon as windows is done loading (and when I say windows, I mean launching windows at the start and going into the login screen, without logging into my own account) the fan will go all the way back down again.
Could it be that I have some sort of virus or something?
|
My old boxed cooler for my 955 used to do the same thing (I think due to AMD QnQ, which I havent installed nor turned on in BIOS anymore). The fan went to 100% and thats really loud and after going to windows login screen it went down again. So it is not necessarily a Virus.
For the Codes:
2A Initializes different devices through DIM. See DIM Code Checkpoints section of document for more information.
2E Initializes all the output devices.
