Looks like they are removing the ability to join or create "named" channels.
aka chat channel tl, teamliquid, reddit, etc. That's a pretty big blow to community play in Diablo 3. |

| Similar to starcraft I guess. The categories are: Trade, Hardcore, Looking for group, Demon Hunter, Wizard etc... |

I can't seem to create one myself.
Maybe its possible but not noob friendly, but if it is its not intuitive.

thought bashiok got it wrong and then confirmed that he didnt even fully know but i swear he said that there will be public chat channels in D3

There are, as you can see in that screenshot. You just can't create private chat channels like we can in SC2, with names. For example: "teamliquid", "playhemtv", etc.
There are still the public ones, though. |

| I'd imagine that feature will be added. They really weren't planning on getting anything for chat into the game this patch. We'll see how long it takes to get the rest of the chat features implemented. |

It doesn't "look like" that at all. The chat system doesn't even have an ignore feature, which makes perfectly clear it's not finished. |

you can't create private chat channels in sc2. those are public. if i start a channel called "farts r us" and someone types that in, they can join the channel. you can't add a password or moderate the channel in any way.. not private. |
