What's up TL,

Today I just wanted to create a thread of unusual fears. I know that there have been threads of phobias before, but generally it was filled with things like spiders, heights, etc. Pretty normal stuff, right?

I want this thread to be a little bit more a-typical. Fears that are not shared by many of your friends, or most people you meet.

For instance, occasionally, when I am running on the side walk late at night, I am overwhelmed by this haunting unease that I am about to trip over a wire. It feels like the next step I take will catch on a string I will fall. Makes me look weird as hell when I run at night, too.

Another rather unusual one, I am pretty scared around bodies of water (I mean, it even sounds creepy, bodies of water). I can deal with smaller amounts of water, like rain and tap water, but can't deal with large bodies of it. Lakes, ponds, pools, even baths sometimes, and the ocean. Especially the ocean (which probably ties into the fact that I am TERRIFIED of jellyfish). Although I can usually deal with pools, sometimes when I am swimming I get a very nagging sense of foreboding and I have to run out of the pool looking like an idiot.

Lastly, for some reason I am uncomfortable with the number 292. It just... freaks me out. I have absolutely no explanation why, it just does.

What about you guys? And please, to keep it interesting, make sure they are unusual. Not cockroaches, darkness, or death, but something unique.

Made a blog a little while ago which contained a bit of a rant on my unusual phobia, so I'll only quote it here instead of re-writing it.

First and literally something that I get angry about I have a phobia which so far as I'm aware is so pathetic that no one else on the planet seems to share it. There doesn't seem to be a name for it and I can't seem to get over it regardless of how utterly stupid I know it to be. So to describe what it is, it's basically perfect lines of slow moving water from taps. Yeah...

For those who may be (rightfully) confused I'm referring to when you turn a tap on and then turn it down and you end up with a perfect line of water that any lower would be drips but it's not quite and it's this perfect thing line that doesn't change shape or move at all except for to fall down. I can't stand it, I do everything in my power to avoid it happening because once it's started I get physically sick trying to reach to turn it off and I literally can't stand it touching me.

As a phobia, I literally can't imagine anything more stupid, and I'm not even afraid of water more generally in any way! I used to be an avid swimmer even, but these perfect lines of water just make me rediculously uneasy and the fact I can't seem to get over it is so annoying.

Wow that is really interesting. I can't imagine living with something like that lol. At least it isn't TOO common, it is most likely avoidable in most cases.

I am terrified of pool cleaners I will not swim in a pool with one. I fear it will come alive and pull my foot under water or something and drown me. I always have to take it completely out of a pool before I will go swimming.

I have a fear of breaking my ring finger. I keep it bent at all times because then it is less likely to get broken. That is a general tip I've learned from karate, but I still need to break my habit of having them slightly separated when I do shuto blocks.

Woah, I think I have that. When I am walking down the street sometimes I get the sense there is something on my face or in my hair, or that my clothes are wrong and everyone is watching me and laughing inside. Scares the shit outta me, but I thought it was just normal self-consciousness.

Sometimes I do that too. The thought of the pool just begins to freak me out and I imagine things in it and such and then have the urge to get out of the pool suddenly. It's not a fear of drowning though, because it's happened in pools that aren't deeper than 5ft.

I think it could also be considered a mild form of paranoia. I have heard from several people it can be caused by drug use. Not sure how to get rid of it though (if even possible)...

I dunno if this is considered phobia(more like insanity) but sometimes when I'm alone at home, I imagine a korean ghost(the one like the one in the move Ring(long hair, white dress, pale face) looking at me outside my window or when taking a shower shes waiting just outside the bathroom door. I freak myself out like that so often.

Sometimes when I drive by and see a Mcdonalds with a 'outdoor' playhouse. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kelleys/272478979/
I imagine getting stuck in the tube while on my way down and no one will hear me and will starve/overheat to death.

Not a phobia but when I sleep before seeing the clock is before 12:00 AM, I always end up waking up mid morning 2-4 AM. I always go to sleep after 12 because of that.

Damn I have mental issues..

When i was a little kid i was afraid that a wild animal like a lion or tiger will attack me when entering or leaving a dark room.

Now i have a similar phobia. When i walk on the road or even on the pavement and there is nobody around my mind thinks
that the car coming from behind is going to hit me.

Every fucking time i have to look back and check to be sure. It's annoying but i can't do anything about it.
If others are around it doesn't happen,i can't explain why.

hmm, i'm not sure about phobias. I have this weird thing sometimes, where i get itchy ALL over my body, and it lasts for a minute or two. Usually happens if i'm put in the spotlight (but not always), the weird thing is, i'm quite social and an extrovert.

Phobias? hmmm...centipedes. I know most of them aren't poisonous, but the creepy crawley feeling i get when i see them scuttle around, it makes me uncomfortable.

I'm also slightly afraid of heights, but only in certain circumstances. Anyways, nothing too serious

salad.

not kidding, salad.i cannot look at it,touch it,i usually leave the table when salad is brought in,order every meal without salad in the restaurant.i used to cover my glass with my napkin before leaving the table when salad was about to be stirred up,as to not get some salad sauce in my drink.
For the past three four years im able to eat next to salad, but trust me i wont enjoy it.
when i was a kid,i had to punch two of my friends for running after me with a leaf of salad.i was just scared shitless, stopped and punched them.
working on it,its less and less an issue as time goes by.ill probably end up not eating/touching it,but hopefully no problems anymore when im around it.

Yeah I fear hospital. When I was a child, I ran whenever I need to pass the surgery room in the hospital. Today I still fear to go to hospital. I feel very very bad when I see very sick people. In fact, when I read descriptions of diseases, I feel very uncomfortable.

I think you mean this: http://www.ingredienten.nl/images/ingredienten/sla-large.jpg

As for me, when I'm in the shower and washing my hair with shampoo. I don't want to keep my eyes closed for too long because I'm anxious about some creep suddenly appearing right next to me or something. Basically the lack of vision scares me. But I think alot more people have this, not that I know of though.

That exactly happens to me, but just with olives. It's just a terrible loath feeling crossing the spine as they're near. I even accidentally ate some (mixed with other stuff) and I don't even like the taste.
