Yes! i want to go back to Candlekeep! Back to the sword coast, backto Amn and spellhold. Gimme it now. But keep it turnbased, and preferably isometric (i can wish!).

Full recreation of Waterdeep for me please :-)

I don't want a Baldur's Gate 3. I want a full new game with Infinity Engine with DnD ruleset (undecided on which edition).

A... Waterdeep 1 would be good

After having watched your video ELA , I must Say that French voices are muchhhhhhhhhhhhhh better !!!!!! Particularly, Irenucus' one. The story teller's one, which speak between acts is really good too.
Since French version are always terrible compared to VO in series it must be said!^^

Omg Greatest RPG ever I have chills evertime I think about it!

PS : Bouh is boo in french^^

FPS rpg's have a totally different focus than party based ones. Hence why never winter nights was just pants for me. Fallout3 was only cool because of the imemrsive world.

Skyrim is basically fallout3 with prettier graphics (yes it was cool, buyt really all the acclaim it got was from fucking noobs who haven't kept up with the scene - what did it do better apart from graphics? And more is not better) ... The point is that the goals of the games are different. Dont let that make you think they cant do somethign different with it though. Its all about the requirements.

Stay civil or stay out of the discussion. Skyrim probably has the most immersive world of any "modern" RPG, not counting heavily modded Oblivion. Not a single post-Infinity Engine game comes close to the well-rounded genius of Baldur's Gate or Planescape, but some manage to do some aspects really, really well. Skyrim is one of them.

But of course if they give me a good BG3 i will definitly buy it.

Is this...real?

Meh, I have a bad feeling about this. Best would be to make the game in the infinity engine with just a new story, screw new people! Satisfy the old fanbase!

If they wanna call the game "Baldur's Gate 3", I wonder how they're gonna tie the story into the original caracters and which ending will be considered canon.

I'm sure something with BG is happening, but as many have already pointed out, it's probably an ipad version of the game or something Look at Trent Oster's twitter. He's basically saying they are up to something and the website is registered to him.

I didn't know that but I guess that's not very official? It's just my guess at the moment. Ofcourse I hope for a pc remake instead. Does anyone know exactly when this announcement is supposed to be? It's sometime today if I understood it correctly, but I don't know when and in which timezone. They did say in the next 24 hours didn't they?

edit: maybe I misunderstood the announcement, it wasn't about BG? It was just an announcement for that pong thingy?

Wonder if it will be as ridiculous as the old ones in that you rest after every single battle to make sure you have all the spells etc you want, since there's no downside.

Man, I'd love an RPG where I actually have to think a bit. Dragon Age was so simplistic. All I did every fight was just spam crowd control, then mass AoE until everything was dead. Bosses I just put a tank up front, have my mages heal occasionally and shoot their wands in the mean time. Took a while, but it was almost impossible to lose with this tactic

Died maybe like 3 times in the second half of the game, on hardest difficulty like that. In Baldur's Gate, spamming AoE worked well too vs most trashy mobs, but there were plenty of mobs that were immune or forced you to fight in situations where you'd kill your own party just as quickly. Plus they actually used counter crowd control or defensive magic to even the scales. And most bosses required different strategies. Fighting a Red Dragon was completely different from fighting a high level Wizard or -god forbid- a demilich like Kangaxx.

God, I need to reinstall that game

I would rather it be a re-release that's optimized for current systems and platforms than a new game. Hell, just convert the game to 4E rules (ADND rules suck balls). Anyone else remember Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance?

Yeah.

Actually, Morrowind is better than both Skyrim and Oblivion. Especially now that there are mods which make it look better than Oblivion. And there have been other post-IE games that were awesome:

Knights of the Old Republic (and KotOR 2, although not as much)
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer

This were all great RPGs (and I'm sure I've forgotten some other good titles).

Naming the likes of.. Fallout 3, Skyrim or also Oblvion and Morrowind here is just heresy.
They are not the same, for me they are plain worse, but they are for sure not the same.

Bethesda doesn't make RPGs. They make exploration games.

There's very little RPG to Bethesda games insofar as the story is fairly shallow, your character has fairly little lasting impact on the world, and since Morrowind there's been little to no meaningful consequences for the choices you make.

Doesn't really help, the idea that you use rest after every battle is ridiculous. There's no downside and it helps, so why is it needed at all, just have the game autorest characters after battle so you don't have to spend time doing it manually. It's stupid anyway, took me days to get through the first part of BG2 because I rested all the time. Works fine with the gameplay, but it's pretty ridiculous that your party sleeps a few hours in the middle of fleeing from a dungeon.

Here we go again: "My game is better!"

Can't we just all agree, that how a game impacts people is subjective?

Always some twat that has to come and say "X was shit, Y was a far superior game" - Most of the time without actually argueing why he thinks X was shit. Its a complete waste of time guys, cut it out..

First and foremost, I am just happy that they are picking up the BG-series again; I do have my fears as far as outcome goes, but I am still hyped about it and I can't wait to get more information about it: I hope OP will stay on top of it and update this thread as things gets revealed

The problem is the lack of proper resource-management mechanics analogous to food/water (which you'd have to manage in any sensible P&P game). Modern gamers just would hate managing that shit.

MotB did what it could to try and create a resource management system in a sensible way with the spirit meter, but that got berated to hell and back by reviewers (though admittedly the implementation is a bit clunky).
