While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together.

If you can catch Purge (purgegamers) not casting and just streaming his own games, he'll often provide decent commentary on how to play. |

So I realize it's been nearly a month since this thread got any love but Valve never told me whenever it was that they gave me a beta key. I'll probably be playing a lot of DotA2 in the next week or so.

Question though, in LoL I pretty much only played AD carry every game that I could since the first month that I started playing. I like picking just one role and learning it. From the reading and stuff I've done on DotA2 it seems like AGI carries are probably the most equivalent to AD carries in LoL. Weaker early game, strong late game, heavy emphasis on farm. Do people think it's a good idea for me to focus on just one role in DotA or should I branch out and play multiple roles? Also is my assessment of, "I like AD carry in LoL so I'll probably like AGI carry in DotA2," accurate? |

I like starting with a few heroes and then branching out to learn (other people like clicking random and just going, depends on who you are).
AGI carries "could" be seen as somewhat similar to AD in the sense that they generally do big autoattack damage, weak early laning, and rely on positioning. That being said, AGI carries are much more diversified and have much more varied playstyles as all AD carries are ranged heroes with steroids/escape/nuke. In dota you have "agi carries" that need the farm like Antimage, others who are quite gank heavy like Riki or Bounty Hunter or have different playstyles like Brood or Ursa. So no, I don't think you would necessarily like to play AGI just because you like AD. |

I wrote that before the buff. Pre-buff without them being disassemble-able and being weaker overall, I honestly don't think they were worth getting over Phase Boots. Phase boots or arcane boots are usually better then tranquil boots but, if you are playing hard support (lots of wards), you are going to be too poor most of the time to buy anything else. +80 ms is extremely useful and comes very cheap.

Hey guys, is this group still active? I got 400+ LoL Games and 400 hours of dota2 played (also 2 years of high level HoN and oldschool dota). Since I played LoL for a decent amount of time I would like to share my knowledge about dota 2 to everyone who is interested. I prefer teaching players who already played some games and know the basics (which hero got which skills, what is the role of the hero etc.).
I got very good knowledge regarding item choices and theorycrafting in general, decent understanding of the drafting process and some experience in mentoring newer players. |
