Last spring break I played ~350 games in 8 days. It wasn't physically exhausting in the slightest, and I also went from 3500->4100, so apparently it wasn't very mentally taxing either.
If I tried to bowl, or golf 8 days in a row, I'd probably injure myself pretty badly. (assuming 16 holes of golf, or 9+ games of bowling, neither of which take 8-12 hours)
Unless your are really terrible at either of those two sports I think you would be perfectly fine. EDIT: I wasted my 1000th post on that NOOOOOOOOOOOO..........
Considering how many people here complain about tendon and shoulder problems from playing SC2, I highly doubt they could bowl 9+ games a day for 8 days straight. I think most people would start having pain on the first day. |

| i would think that the dedication to excel (i.e., practice) and competitive spirit that is inherent in sports would also translate to being good at video games (e.g., practice hard and the need to win). however, i don't think these are causally linked. you can have the need to excel and competitive spirit in non-athletic ventures (look how many good poker players there are in the scene). i think we are looking at something that causes both great athleticism and being good at video games: dedication and desire. this explains why some people are truly unathletic (people who sit on their ass all day playing because they love the game and want to win), but are still great at the game, and people who are athletic (that basketball player for Utah Jazz??) who play sc2 very poorly (he didn't have the proper dedication and practice). |

Highest rank in BW: ICCup B minus. Highest rank in SC: Masters NA Physical Sport: American Football/Tennis Correlation: I have to admit that Tennis have vastly improved my ability to control delicate items since it hand-eye co-ordination with the racket. This have effectively trained my ability to handle the mice. If we are talking strategic, then tactical movement inherited from American Football makes me visualize the ideal position. Not only the sweet spot to connect my body with contact with another to maximize the damage but also the correct location in which the players will attempt to displace. The job of being a DB have somewhat increased my swiftness.
But really, I had a friend whom have never endergo this type of conditioning but he was extremely talented in gaming. I have witnessed him where he was cornered in a 1 vs 4 situation and managed to slaughter everyone on his way with unhuman reflects. And recently, he has made into GM in SC2 with great DT/Warp prism harassment into precise storm casting. |

Generally speaking very athletic men are going to be good at anything they actually apply themselves at.
Basically, there's no direct correlation to being good at games just because you're an athlete or vice versa. Hell, look at some of the top SC2 players of all time...NesTea, DRG, MC....I am almost 100% positive I can bench/squat/curl more than all three of them combined. With that being said, I am only a high masters player (If I applied myself I know I could get into GM). Also, any of those 3 guys could crush me without even trying.
Another example is EGIncontrol. He's amazingly strong, but he's just not good at Starcraft, despite professionally playing it for over a year. |

1)What's your highest league/elo/ranking within games?
ICCUP BW: B-/B+ 2v2 SC2: GM
2)What are some of your greatest physical achievements?
Bench press: 330 Dead lift: 576 Clean: 245
3)Do you see a connection to your friends, their sucess/failure in games and their phyisical capabilities/capacities?
No, intelligent people will always perform better at anything they put their efforts into, whether it's sports, games, or anything inbetween. Also, if you look at the majority of top athletes, you'll notice that they are fairly intelligent. If you want to be the best at something you have to work for it, you have to study. Every single big guy I've talked to at the gym, at work, or even over the internet all have one thing in common; they read up on weight lifting online.

I lol@ anyone that says, "Well EG works out a lot!"
Yea... I don't count what they do as working out... I would love to see incontrol or idra run 2 miles in 15 minutes... if that...
So running is the ideal workout and lifting weights doesn't count as working out? Wtf? I used to lift 4-5 times a week and i saw a huge increase in both strength, balance, and endurance. I also competed in swimming junior championships and to me both forms of training are very good. Cardio exercise isn't the be all end all of being fit.
Never said it was. If you work out as you say you do then you are actually fit, not just good at lifting. |

1) CS1.6 Just under the semi-pro level, mixed with decent players. Was a high-level WoW player who peaked at rank 8 (of 35k people). SC2 - Mid/High master on EU.
2) Played in the best football (soccer) team in my city in Sweden for about 7 years, quit due to lack of motivation and also due to playing too much WoW.
3) Definitely. To become good at anything you need motivation, intelligence and just general skill. I think the mindset of a person is more important than his physical shape. But in order to be in good physical shape you also need a good mindset, which is probably why a lot of good players either is, or have been in good physical shape. |

I have. ._.
Golf, bowling and tapping on your keyboard and mouse for strenuous periods of time will do that especially if you aren't used to it. I bowled in leagues, I used to play a lot of golf (sometimes 36 holes a day). Anyway, it's a lot and it does add up in the long run. Just make sure you always stretch. |

| I find myself at the end of both worlds! I might not be the best starcraft player out there but I was at once one of the top 15 best guitar hero players in the world, I played Halo 3 Semi-Professionally in many tournaments and I believe myself to be at the very least good at all other games. I've done martial arts for 12 years and this has kept me in shape being cardiovascularly fit and stengthly fit (lol at the word strengthly) I find that if you're atheltic or not it doesn't have a lot to do with the game. However, anyone remember the post in BW about Nada's Body?? Haha I think that answers this question |

| I think being in good shape has a lot to do with one's mindset more than anything else. Working out for me is an outlet. Its just good to sweat for a half hour, take a cool shower and then do something I love. It just feels good. However, I don't think the fact that my heart is stronger from running has anything to do with my "stamina". Mentally it certainly does, but physically, nah. |

there's no doubt being healthy, fit and athletic will help you in sc2 mentally. maybe its more comparable to golf? where being fit isn't everything.
but compared to F1? not worth discussing. |

| I believe that being healthy and athletic probably makes you slightly better at doing everything that you do. I would think that being athletic would make you a better professional gamer. However, I don't have any evidence to back these beliefs. With personal experience, the most athletic friends I know tend not to play games, so it's hard to gauge what their relation would be (especially considering that correlation is not causation and all that). |

| My view of it is that if someone is good at sports, what makes them good is not that they're just naturally athletic, they put hard work and dedication into what they're doing. If they start doing something else, like Starcraft, they're going to have that discipline and motivation to get good. |

I really agree with this. I think it's all motivation coupled with your ability to stay focused on goals. If you're a person who trains regularly to achieve athletic goals, I'd say that you are a person who knows how to stay motivated and practice hard. If that's coupled with a genuine desire to use that ability to practice hard in other venues then you're bound to have a significant advantage. |

If you are good at competIng, it should matter if it is sports or video games; you do what it takes to win.
I do, however, feel that excercise increases bloodflow and metabolism which can increase mental processes |

| Some of the best Starcraft players are in terrible shape. Sheth, for example (no offense intended). The biggest factors of Starcraft are finger dexterity and mental ability. The finger dexterity I feel is hardly worth mentioning because having quick hands alone hardly qualifies as an athletic achievement. It's muscle memory more than anything else. If you want to see a person who has true control and strength in their hands, look at a professional musician who plays guitar, piano, or a variety of other instruments. |

Those that are in terrible shape but are still good players can be that much better if they just began to trim weight and become more athletic. |

1. Masters NA 2. Nationally ranked division 2 NCAA tennis player. 3. The attitude that it takes to improve is something I think I developed in my tennis career. Surrounding yourself with stronger players and striving to always be better than the best you know really can drive you in anything you do. I don't think directly coordination from tennis has affected me. But mostly the attitude it takes to improve is what i see sports and athletic things that can help in starcraft. Just never accept not being the best if you really want to improve, beat who you look up to and pass them. |
