Hey,I am pretty new to starcraft BW.
So i am wondering when i play zerg,How should i use control groups?
I go ling lurker in ZvT and i cant even fit all units in control groups,What should i do then? |

1 Utility units like lurkers or defilers
2-4 units
5-0 hatches

Position your units in a way that they arrive at the same time.
Send the back zerglings first in, then the ones at the front. |

Get faster at 1a2a3a4a. Also, you should be setting up flanks with Z most of the time. |

I do this for my zerg, it is great!
1-3 fodder
456 hatches
f2 rally point
f3-f4 extra hatches
7 - scourges
8 - overlords
9 - fodder or hatchery
10 - lurker |

| back when day9 did BW replays/VODs for his dailies, he casted one replay of himself vs xellos at WCG. It was such a great example/explanation of how to control a huge lurker/ling army and flank etc. I would totally link that to you if I remembered what episode it was lol |

Set your hotkey prioritization right. Know the crucial units with highest level of importance and requires the most babysit such as Lurkers, Ultralisks, Mutas, and Defilers. Zergling counts as units that you don't necessarily need to protect since they are dispensable. I personally would rally all of my Zerglings into one specific location, Shift + F2 that location, separate them into clumps of 12 units so I can quickly box and send them on to the battlefield with tier 2/3 units hotkeyed in 1 - 4.
For instance, my foresight tells me that a huge engagement is imminent to which I have 12 Ultralisks, 4 Defilers, 12 Lurkers, and 4 groups of Cracklings. I would have my Ultras hotkey to 1, Lurkers to 2, Defilers with 8 lings to 3, and another group of Cracklings to 4. That leaves me with 2 groups and 4 zerglings at my rally point. Then I would box and send the leftover units to the battleground after engaging with my primary force. You will improve as the more you practice. |

| What blubbdavid said. 150 supply in zerglings is 300 units. Max number of units in ctrl groups is 120. Hope your mouse speed and accuracy are good. Zerg is definitely not easy to start with, good luck. |

I remember watching that. That was on one of the most imbalanced shitty maps I've ever seen. *Hey lets make a short narrow path all the way to the main with no possible way of flanking, and make it so Zerg has to expand to a mineral only 500 miles away.
Same game on a good map Day[9] might even have taken it. No Zerg could have beaten Xellos on that map.

Obviously place the most micro intensive units at 1.
And about the rest of the 1 million lings you have? Learn to drag-select and attack-move on the minimap faster. |

You aren't going to be able to hotkey all your units. Just hotkey the important ones and get used to boxing your lings and sending them. Set your lings up in flanks as well or you will find that they will run in a line into marines and do 0 damage. It takes some practice but after a while it wil become easier. If you want to play a race similiarly to SC2 where you can hotkey all your stuff and send it in a big ball play protoss. 1a2a3a is a lie. It's 1u2w box 50 lings.
Edit: Oh and there are some amazing zergs who play with only 1 or 2 unit hotkeys. Shows you the strength of being able to micro your units as well as macro more hatcheries in battle. Oh yeah I forgot this is how I do hotkeys for Zerg
Early stage
1-2 Lings
3 Mutas/Lurkers/Scouting Ling
4-7 Hatches
Late Stage
1-0 Army
3-4 Lurkers
FKeys/Minimap Hatches
Although this is probably due to playing Terran I do a very similar style.
Early-Mid Game
1-2 Vults
3 Tanks/Scouting Vult
4-6 CCs
7-8 Starports
8-0 Comsats
F2 Factory
F3 Rally
Early Timing Attack
4CC
5-7 Facts
0 Comsat
Late Game
1-0 Army
3-4 Tanks
5 Vessels
F2 Factory
F3 CC

My main is not zerg, but i combine the units like defilers in the other units. Also overlords. And then to cast i select the unit with the mouse and then use my keyboard. For example i have 5 control groups and in 1 i have for example 11 lings and 1 defiler, 2-12 lings, 3-maybe lings with overlords 4-lurkers, 5-lings + lurkers.
And i just flank and try to get all untis attacking at the same time with a fast 1a2a3a4a5a and then i start to macro after i cast swarm and those things and repeat xd |
