Hello. I've just got a new PC and I find it very difficult to play Starcraft Wings of Liberty I have accounts on both EU and Korea. On EU, it is somewhat fine, but it's still lagging and it is hard to move the screen, and it's impossible to watch replays, it shows it to you for like 10 seconds, then freezes for anything from 30 secs to 2 min+ , then it can play on for another 5-10 sec and freezes for another minute. Same thing happens in Korea, but there it's while in game. I play everything on low and only textures on medium My new PC config : i5 2500k 3.3ghz 4 GB DDR3 I use to play on my laptop without such issues occuring, of course the speed wasn't great but it was a laptop with AMD x2 Turion which was weakish. While it freezes, it also makes sound of a sound loop, as if the DJ has a broken record, if you know what I mean. This PC is only 2 days old, but I am also having problems with it freezing now and then, and have that (not responding) yoke at the top of the window, while the window highlights into a brightish white color, happens quite often actually. If you require any additional info, please let me know. Thank you.

How is you temps? What heatsink do you use? You'r heatsink might not be fitted correctly, or it can be clogged with dust. How is your memory timings, volt, and speed? are they the same as the specification on the kit? What graphic card do you use? Is the graphic card overclocked, and what is the temps on it? What motherboard do you use?
|
Takk for replying Pusekatten. Temps? I am not sure if you are asking for temperature, but I don't know how to find out, but it seems very quite and cool and nice, it has only been 2 days old. Heatsink came with the i5 processor, but the other one has been fitted into computer, I have checked it, and it's absolutely fine, as it is brand new. Memory, I have 4 GB ddr3, as for timings, volt and speed, I don't really know how to check them, but it would be great if you can tell me how to, if it's that important, by the way, I have also tried to get the RAM out and onto another slot, it didn't really help much. Graphics card is an inbuilt Intel 3000 HD into the i5 processor, I know it is not the best chip, but it still should run StarCraft smoothly even on all medium settings, and not freeze me on windows when I even try to use the internet. And no the graphics card sin't over cloaked. The motherboard is ASROCK H61 H61M-VS Intel H61 (REV B3) Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Micro-ATX . Tusen Takk

I think its the inbuilt graphic that is your problem really, I have seen some test, and at 1280x720 on medium, it struggles to have 20fps. For the temps. HWmonitor to watch the temps, Prime95 for stresstesting your cpu so you know what your max temp is.
|
I get really good FPS actually, like when the game is being played, it runs superbly smooth, much more smooth than on my laptop, but then it just freezes, and lags in bigger battles, even though I have all on low now including textures. But it's the replay that is a problem really, it doesn't even let me watch it, but if you think it's a video card then it could be, and maybe I should get one. I can't afford much, and HD 6670 is still going strong or so I've herd. I wonder if it will be compatible with my motherboard. I only wonder if the video card really is the case for slowing down browsing, although when I play say vidoes on max resolution at 1080p, there isn't single lagging problem.
I have downloaded this HWmonitor, and it's temperatures are from 29-34 degrees on all 4 cores. Jeg vet ikke... :S

Are you by any chance running Folding@home? Because my computer froze with the sound loop on random times when the F@H app was running. For checking ram voltage etc you can use CPU-Z (free)

@ ManBearPigNL thank you for taking your time to give this post a notice. I haven't downloaded anything on here, except the Google chrome, and the 2 versions of StarCraft. I have no idea what folding @ home is, so I think I did not. I have used this HWmonitor program, the one that Pusekatten has provided me, and I will provide the details of voltages bellow. Voltages : - CPU Core: Value - 1.00V; Min. - 1.00V; Max - 1.22 V - VIN1: Value - 0.10V; Min. - 0.10V; Max - 0.78V +3.3V: Value - 3.44V; Min. - 3.42; Max - 3.44V +5V: Value - 5.16V; Min. - 5.14V; Max - 5.16V +12V: Value - 12.04V; Min. - 11.93V; Max - 12.04V VN5: Value - 1.75V; Min. - 1.75V; Max - 1.75V VN7: Value - 1.90V; Min. - 1.86V; Max - 1.90V Thank you.

That sort of freeze can be a hard disk problem. Run CrystalDiskInfo and post a screenshot.
|
Yes thank you jaj22. It shows me that Health Status : Good And temperature : 41 Buffer size 2048 KB Power on count : 87

2 MB buffer on an HDD is a joke. What's the RPM on it?
Especially if using the IGP is making you page.
|
Hello JingleHell. The RPM on the hard drive is 7200.
I have no idea what IGP is

it's the integrated graphics. What's your RAM usage when playing SC2? I'd guess you're paging and your (likely old) hard drive isn't handling it well.

I don't care. I asked for the screenshot because I want the screenshot.

It just gives me a lot of that not responding things sometimes. It's like whenever I do something, it works perfectly fine, and then it doesn't work (just stays still) for 30 seconds, and then works super fast again. Here are the full specs for the hard drive : Western Digital Caviar Blue IDE/PATA 3.5" Hard Disk Drive Drive Interface Ultra ATA/100 EIDE Disk Speed 7200 RPM Data Buffer/RAM 2 MB Platters 3 Heads 6 Cylinders 16,383 Bytes per Sector 512 Sectors per Track 63.
I mean like right now, the replay (for me to see the RAM usage) didn't even load, so I tried to close it, with task manager, and tabbing out and right click close it from outside, it just stays as a whiter (not responding) screen and stayed like this for about 5 mins, un till it told me (program not responding, do you wish to close it) but of course I already tried it, and it closed after I pressed close.
Now for the second time I tried to open it, seemed pretty fine, a bit laggy when you press enter with your account (2 second lag), but when I clicked watch replay, it ave me that blue cirlce (which turns into it from an arrow) and the loading line didn't load for about 2 mins, only then it started loading( fiarly quickly and started playing) but of course when the replay is playing, that blue circle appears again, and everything freezes for good minute or so, every 15 seconds.
When it freezes, it shows CPU usage - 0% and memory just over 2gb When the replay unfreezes as anything from around 14% to 30%, but when it restarted it stayed from around 20%-24%, and then when it freezed again in like 10 seconds. Thank you
|
* Actually some time later(same replay), even with the freeze the CPU usage went 24%, then while it freezed, some time later that whitening of the screen appeared (usually when you get program not responding)

Drive actually looks fine, apart from being ancient and IDE. Are you using a PCI IDE controller or one of those horrible SATA->IDE adapter widgets? Both of these things are bad. In the latter case you could try poking it until it works better. I'm not even joking.
Might be nothing to do with the problem though. You could check whether there are any disk read error reports in event viewer.

Oh, you didn't build it yourself? Looks like you got scammed with an ancient HDD. Check out the power on hours. That's two and a half years worth of 24/7 uptime there.
The H61M-VS (and S1155 boards in general) has no IDE port, and no PCI slots either, so there's got to be an adapter on the drive. Probably one of the ones you buy for two bucks on eBay.
|
Thanks jaj22. So what would you recommend me to buy and replace? No I didn't build it my self, and could have got scammed without a doubt. Should I still invest in a better video card too, or is it not necessary? And is it still good to use this hard drive for anything at all?
