It seems that it can't be Aang, because Korra is the Avatar in this show... so there is no way that Korra and Aang can be alive at the same time. But he had arrow tattoos, so he had to be a master airbender. Perhaps Aang's son (Korra's dad) was also an airbender. If this were true, it would be huge, as it would mean that perhaps the airbenders didn't die off when Aang died (I'm assuming he's dead), and there is a chance that they could repopulate.

That being said, I don't know how bending inheritance works with mixed marraiges (Aang and Katara), so I don't know if this is even possible. The only other explanation I can think of is that Korra is being visited by the spirit version of Aang, just how Roku used to sometimes visit Aang in A:TLA... but that wouldn't make sense because there is a scene in the trailer where the person with the arrow is training Korra, and Roku never trained Aang, not with bending at least. So I'm pretty sure that the person has to be Aang's son, which I think is awesome, because it would give hope that the airbenders could have a future.

But if there is no bending inheritance I wonder what would happen in the case where for example in the Fire Kingdom if the royal family had no firebenders born. Who would become the next firelord or is it only based on birth right not firebending ability and it was just a coincidence every firelord so far was literally the strongest firebender during their reign.

Avatar wasn't about some poorly disguised political message. They aren't going to go try and solve the 1%/99% issue. They are going to tell a story which appeals to kids and adults at the same time, hoping to repeat the succes that was Avatar.

Avatar 1 was a very simple story. Don't expect deep political commentary. They are going to end up with a normal good v evil story. Kids don't care much for shades of gray.
