Ya, I could definitely see this happening as the entire point of the show is to show how benders and non-benders can work together in harmony without any discrimination toward either side. Eventually after Tarlok's grip gets tightened so much it starts to effect Amon and the equalists and after an interesting talk between Amon and Korra in some way they realize that the real threat is the oppression that Tenzin saw from the beginning that both the Avatar and Amon want to eliminate. Would be kind of similar to how jet worked with the TLA crew for awhile.

Can't see it happening atm seeing at Tarlok is helping Amon along so much.

Do we know how Tarlok became a councilmember? Someone in the thread said he's not from Republic City and from what one can gather by looking at the clothes of the other councilmember, it seems like there 's one for each nation plus Tarlok.

If tarlok wasn't there, you'd have an even amount of council members. That would cause ties on subjects and the public office wouldn't get anything done. (more so than usual! Politcal joke! ha!) But, seeing how... unscrupulous he is, I wouldn't put it past him to have cheating/killing to get it. But, I'd venture and say he and the other water tribe member are from a pole each.

Terrific episode. It really did a great job of not only showing the non-benders side of things but also making me sympathize with their cause.

Really liked the episode, can't wait to see what will happen from now on, and it's harder to predict.

I like the bloodbending and chi blocking as potential enemies this season.

My sort of major issue is that it feels like Team Avatar loses almost every episode. It would be nice if Korra could take out a somebody sometime.

I might watch the Tarlok vs Korra battle again. Was pretty well choreographed, even if Korra never uses waterbending haha.

I was wondering. And I guess this is probalby one of Amon's main points. But what the fuck, why aren't there any nonbenders on the council? And/or some representatives from the city itself?

The only problem with the lighting bolts is, even if its standard...Zuko couldnt learn it, Azula, Iroh, the firelord were the only ones (and maybe the two old hags?) But the point was its so hard to learn and it would take years (eg firelord and Iroh) but Azula was a prodigy and had a direct connection to the only two lighting benders in the world at that time. Yet even Azula needed to charge it up (early stages) and she receive special coaching, spent her whole life firebending and improving...yet Mako (okay i can kinda get it if he can do it(firebending pro match/practicing), but still...he had no coaching, no one to tell him the technique or spend time with him, for him to master it) cause seriously he lighting bends with super pro accuracy and ease. Not to mention everyone at the electricity plant can do it.... we have "prodigies" everywhere. I know ur gonna say look what happened with metal bending, i think thats different because Toph can teach it, she even had a school for earth bending but who were the last lighting benders, NOT Zuko, Iroh (i doubt he would teach anyone, hes a tea maker) Azula (crazed and locked away), the firelord(no bending left) There was basically no one left to teach lighting bending. Even with 100 years it becomes close to mainstream?(power plants get elecrity from lighting bending, there was like 10 that one time, and cities around the firenation i assume would use power plants too, so times that by like 100 plants...) da fuck so many lighting benders? And if it was only a "select" few who could do it, how the fuck are they generating that much eletricity. 0_o

HOLY FUCKING SHIT Tarlok can bloodbend without the fully moon? what??? That means he's more pro than Katara, which is retarded....hopefully its not just that he's a prodigy too, and theres something else behind it, its too hard to believe that someone would have that much waterbending power(if he could do that the fist TLA firelord would have lost straight out to him). tho he seemed pretty damn strong withthe waterfall behind him.

Tarlok's father (or whoever the guy is in the flashbacks) i'm pretty sure he was bloodbending, it looked like everyone in the room was straining, i dont think it blocks bending like a anti-bending bubble shield, and also theres been alot of time in TLA where Toph has bended which out moving, and i think Katara too like being pinned down and doing something its a bit hazy in my memory but how does that work vs bloodbending cant u bend at all when ur being bloodbended? Also that guy bloodbending inside a room (no full moon), controling Toph, Aang, i assume guards around the room (cause toph is there and its meeting) and Sokka and EVERYONE ELSE ....0_o.....what....what....what....how is that..what i'm speechless when i think about it, its soooo crazy, he makes the firelord look like a low-class bender. Also if he bended all those people how did he get out, Aang and all the guards and Toph and Sokka and Katara would have chased him down (Aang died peacefully, was mentioned somewhere.....i think....) So they hunted him down which i think Aang beat him in the avatar state, u guys remember that flash back where Aang is in the avatar state and some guy has his hands infront of him protecting himself? So he probaby got pwned, and Aang took his bending away (i guess) and if Tarlok was his son, did they really not watch for him? (i guess they thought he could change like zuko)

I know we kinda was like "MORE EPIC BENDING PLZ" but this was kinda over the top with the non-moon bloodbending(but they obviously have more planned for this so i'm waiting they've done a pretty damn good job so far so i cant really doubt them with the rest), Bolin Mako were awesome, and Korra too. I really hope where this doesnt become like "lost" that the writters go "OH FUCK THE FANS GUESSED SOMETHING RIGHT, we cant have that, well i guess we change the whole thing so they will be surpised"

Theres soooo much to talk about I"M SO HAPPY! this ep was EPIC!!!

This might sound wierd but people in the show could have undergone the pysiological changes similar to the way real people underwent during industrialism, when higher standards of nutrition caused something like an 8in increase in height and some 25IQ across the board in the masses.

Bending may be related to a body's health in some way, which would increase across the board with the advent of the shows version of industrialism.

One plausible explanation.

I get the feeling that in the end Tarlok will get his bending taken away by Amon while Korra ignores Tarlok's ask for help fighting Amon.

Don't expect her to use waterbending until she calms down. Her spirituality and mentality is most that of a firebender and a bit of a earthbender.

The newest episode is so good, yet so bad. I love the suspense and choreography in this episode. I also like how they are showing the non bender POV, but I hate how they deal with Tarlok. He seems like a character with no depth and lives only to be a character to hate. He may have an interesting back story, but right now he seems extremely stupid. Its a pretty well known fact that trying to crush an uprising through use of oppression, garners more hate and followers. So frustrating to see Tarlok be so short sighted. Makes me wonder if he is Amon or some shit...Also, wtf is with taking away everything bad ass away from the old TLA characters. No full moon blood bending, everyone and their grandma has lightning? Like wtf. Whatever, this episode still pumped me up for next week's, so it did it's job.

Can't wait to see Korra go into avatar mode, I really though she was going to go into the state when she was fighting Tarlok

Times change, people figured out how to master it easier. Reminds me a lot of Dragonball Z. It took so much effort for Goku to be the first Super Saiyan in a really long time, but it took Gohan less time. Then Goten and Trunks did it as children. Once a special technique that is possible for others to use with practice is figured out, it'll become easier to do as time goes on for newer people.

All the people that still think Torlak is Amon totally blows my mind. Of course, I won't say there is absolutely no way the two are the same character, but there is so little evidence supporting that theory I feel like people are just saying it to sound cool. There are just so many instances where it's obvious the two are not the same person or even working together unless somehow Amon is secretly controlling Torlak. And then there's the whole "Torlak and Amon are brothers, sons of Yakon", which is even crazier. While I love crazy, outlandish theories, they at least should have some reasonable amount of evidence supporting them.

I do love the dichotomy portrayed by the two, and the characterization of them makes me appreciate the writers so much. As I rewatched episode 8, I observed the fact that Amon, the hero of the non-benders, chooses to save Korra for the very end. Meanwhile Torlak, champion of the benders, tries to remove the avatar, the greatest bender of them all. I've seen it written in places that Torlak and Amon are supposed to only be season one villains. Is that true, and where does it come from? I really hope that their resolution is super cliche-ridden and full of cheesy tropes.
How does it feel knowing you wasted another 3 seconds of your life reading this again?

Exactly it's been some hundred years since TLA, the times have progressed, think of it like technology. Shit is so advanced to today that if you compared to to 100yrs ago theres literally nothing to even compare to it's so advanced. Prob get locked up for being the devil or something.

On the subject of Lightning being easier, over those many years there might've been some major changes in the philosophy of firebending. Zuko had learned a different philosophy of firebending from the sun people and the dragons, which was before based on rage and anger. Zuko became the firelord later on, so it is very likely that he began to promote his style more as well.

Additionally, Iroh states in TLA that Lightning Redirection is more of a waterbending technique. With this in mind, having people of all nations and bending abilities live together, as they had never done before, probably helped techniques and such mingle, and it is likely that learning from other bending cultures helped to find an easier way to create lightning.
