found this article about the 15 most sold pc games, i was kind of surprised of the games in the top 15, since i just played 3 of the 15 game and 5 of the 15 games i just saw the first time. the ranking: 1. the sims 2. starcraft 3. myst 4. the sims II 5. half-life II 6. minecraft 7. battlefield 3 8. simcity 3000 9. half-life 10. wow: cataclysm 11. riven 12. starcraft II 13. counter-strike 14. diablo II 15. cossacks: european wars
so surprising that starcraft is ranked second, guess s. korea helped alot here

I've heard of all but riven, the rest Im not too suprised about. and I also don't think this belongs in sc2 general.

WUT. Cata out sold TBC/LK crazy!!!
Glad games like Sims and CS made the list.
|
does sims include the 15 billion expansions it had
|
Wow. Myst and Riven are a blast from the past. I remember being wayyy too young to get very far in either games but games were pretty damn enchanting anyways because of the environments. I've played all of those games except Minecraft, Cossacks and Cataclysm. I'm really surprised none of the Warcraft games made the list O.o

Both Half life games in it. And Valve is still completly mute about the serie future...
|
Surely WoW vanilla is sold more then Cata... Since you need one to run the other ...

I guess not, because WoW:Cata is there which is also an expansion.

So many good memories. I remember my dad operated some guy from EA so I got my hands on The Sims + a few expansion packs as a gift and that's what really started my fascination with computer games.
Then Counter-Strike 1.6 took over and finally SC2. Of course I also played those classics like SimCity 3000 and half life. I'm surprised that there is no FIFA title actually.
Thinking back now it'd be really cool to see a thread where everyone tells their story that has to do with computer gaming.

Free wow copies if you bought Cata plus signed for maybe 6 months I guess.

The only surprise to me is cossacks: european wars. That said the list as a whole looks a bit suspicious, I've seen other lists of most sold games of all time and they haven't looked like that. In the link you provided they even start saying this:
Putting together a list like this isn't easy. Sales figures are often released by title, with no breakdown across platform. Thus, it's actually really hard to assemble the best-selling PC games into order. Nevertheless, you're going to feel some nostalgia, a little bit of love, and a whole lot of angst because, even with a lot of deserving releases on this list, many get left off.
Basically this is a "good enough" list and is probably not completely accurate depending on how you count the sales.

Nice job Korea. And people say one small nation doesn't matter :x

How exactly can an expansion sell more than the original game you need in order to play said expansion ? (I'm just curious. Did they give away everything WoW related except Cataclysm for free at one point ?)

It was the sequel to Myst. My mother really liked playing those two games and I must admit they were kind cool/challenging.
Hadn't heard of #15 though.

Glad games like Sims and CS made the list. How can an expansion outsell the "basic edition" which is required to play it?
#15 Cossacks ... What? I mean its an ok-ish game, but that popular? Or is it the 10€ cheap editions which made it so popular?

This is a dodgy list. No concrete official sources have been used. The author did not have access to the final number of sales by titles.
The WoW:Cata item is the best example.
