Knock off the SC2 vs BW vs LoL vs whatever crap please.

So, it begins. And it may even end.
In my opinion, this is a critical juncture. BW and sc2 put head to head, one of them will face oblivion afterwards.
That seems obvious right?
Well I just think BW isn't the clear goner...that's all. |

No, competition is good, it pushes both leagues to keep improving themselves. |

To the future!!!!
Hell, it's about time! Let's replace SC2 with LoL, while we're at it. ;]
Even better, lets make a league where they play BW, SC2 and LoL in a Bo7 team league!
This league wont turn out anything good tho if it comes in this format :/Last edit: 2012-03-25 05:08:37 |

When brood war dies, eSports dies with it.
You must not have noticed the IEM stream numbers, or MLGs stream numbers, or the amount of people who watch EVO then. Esports is NOT Starcraft. People need to get that idea out of their heads. Whenever someone says "for esports!!" "Your hurting esports!!" on this forum, they are talking about Starcraft. They are not synonymous.
LOL's numbers are crapping all over everything currently, CS1.6 put up really impressive numbers at IEM. EVO gets millions of stream views every year. Esports is showing no signs of dying at all. |

The BW fans in this thread are so incredibly rude and obnoxious to the SC2 fans, it makes me sick, but then again at least it demonstrates the differences between the two communities.
BW fans really have to stop biting the head off of anyone in the SC2 community who is slightly excited about the news, just because it has a big downside doesn't mean some people can't look for the silver lining in all of it.
Stop the flaming and hating, bring constructive discussion to the table. |

I don't see why he's been warned for this post. No offence but Brood War is very dated in terms of many things:
- Graphics look so dated that the game could probably have been ported to the SNES with little trouble.
- In terms of gameplay mechnics and controls, the game is more tedious to play than Kid Icarus: Uprising (a recently released brilliant game that is sadly hampered by terrible controls.) Remember that Brood War is from an era where the concepts of having more than 12 units or 1 building in a control group didn't exist and smart casting wasn't even implemented. To call Brood War a mechanically nice game to play would be a complete lie. Larger control groups didn't arrive until Age of Empires 2 in 1999.
- Every other country's e-sports scene has virtually abanadoned Brood War. Currently, iCCup and Garena are the only remaining popular ladder choices with WGT and PGT disappearing, it's been dropped as a World Cyber Games event as of last year and many ex-BW pros have switched either to LoL or SC2.
- For the last 14 years of Brood War's existence, South Korea has been entirely dominating in the e-sport to the point where there's virtually no way for a non-Korean to compete in Korea.

Or not and esports continues on just fine, but hey to each their own.
Considering how MLG almost went bankrupt this past year, and were forced to implement PPV only events, I would say that eSports outside of Korea is shrinking. Even Riot ended up losing a bunch of money from pushing LoL as an esport. Funny how all the sc2 babies like to sprout crap about brood war being "dead" when sc2 is in a FAR worse economic condition. |

Clearly you're an ignorant moron. BW has been around longer yes, but it is currently and in my opinion will and should always be present in the competitive scene. It's a different game. You'll find dozens of threads explaining and discussing this all over TL. Please do some research before you make stupidly obtuse statements on subjects you have no informational basis to comment on.
lol, if nobody is watching BW then it will die. i don't know how many people in Korea still watch it, but if the numbers are high enough, there is no reason for them to shut it down. i don't know why so many sc2 fans want BW to fail, maybe they want all the BW pros to switch to sc2 so they can see how those BW legends fare against the current top players.

Well, at least that the time I've dedicated my life won't be wasted like SC2 because none of my timings will be off due to alteration!

I am just looking at the statics here. Koreans have been winning even MORE tournament titles as before. Thus, they are giving a ray of hope. Last edit: 2012-03-25 05:17:54 |

If BW goes, then I might not bother watching eSports at all anymore to be honest, I played a bit of SC2 and watched a bit of SC2, but my interest in the game dwindles over time since playing it doesn't have the same level of being rewarding.
To you SC2 fans, don't stop fighting for what you believe in, but everyone should do well to remember that spreading hate isn't the way to go (but that's not an exclusive SC2 problem). |

None of the SC2 fans want BW to fail, NONE of them, the only positives for SC2 that come from it are possibly a few of the top dogs moving to SC2. However the people who want that are already fans of those players.
There is a sad misconception that it seems a lot of the BW fans in this thread are holding onto; that SC2 fans are against BW.

To be fair it's probably a minority of both sides flaming and hating all the time just look at all the posts that bw is outdated. That's getting as obnoxious as the 'sc2 isn't as good as bw' card. |
