Dude, get off your high horse. Generalizations are bad.
I feel like that is an unfair generalization of generalizations.
the proper term would be metageneralizations. |

I don't see why he's been warned for this post. No offence but Brood War is very dated in terms of many things: - Graphics look so dated that the game could probably have been ported to the SNES with little trouble.
- In terms of gameplay mechnics and controls, the game is more tedious to play than Kid Icarus: Uprising (a recently released brilliant game that is sadly hampered by terrible controls.) Remember that Brood War is from an era where the concepts of having more than 12 units or 1 building in a control group didn't exist and smart casting wasn't even implemented. To call Brood War a mechanically nice game to play would be a complete lie. Larger control groups didn't arrive until Age of Empires 2 in 1999.
- Every other country's e-sports scene has virtually abanadoned Brood War. Currently, iCCup and Garena are the only remaining popular ladder choices, it's been dropped as a World Cyber Games event and many ex-BW pros have switched either to LoL or SC2.
- For the last 14 years of Brood War's existence, South Korea has been entirely dominating in the e-sport to the point where there's virtually no way for a non-Korean to compete in Korea.
And that's not the same as SC2? Seriously, SC2 is dominated just as much by the Korean than in BW.
Theres alot more foreigners in sc2 that can do damage
I'm going to have to agree that there are plenty of foreigners that are at the level with the ability to compete at the current level of play.
I also don't understand why the original nested quote was warned. I happen to agree that BW is slightly dated as a competitive game. |

I disagree. It really depends on which era of BW you look at. Pre-2006, there were a handful of foreigners that could go toe-to-toe with some of the Koreans. Not so much in more recent times. Put Idra in a group with MVP, Nestea, and Lucky, and there will be some people that believe that he might catch a lucky break and make it out of the group assuming that MVP and Nestea are on an off-day. Put Idra in a group with Flash, Jaedong, and Zero, and it would be a total joke. Top foreigners are still very much competitive in SC2. How long that may last is not certain, especially if the BW teams start streaming in.
Who knows? When the Brood War S teamers begin to step into StarCraft II, maybe the foreigners could learn a thing or twenty from their styles of play.
In fact, I got a theory. You may recall that WinDy a.k.a MajOr ended up leaving CheckSix for a much better team deal which has been as-of-yet undisclosed. What if one of the Brood War teams hired him to bolester up their StarCraft II roster?Last edit: 2012-03-25 05:45:31 |

Just out of curiosity, how many ppl watch a normal bw stream? not the super duper finals, just a regular game like on GSL or NASL/IPL.
I regularly see 1000+ across all retreams for a regular proleague match, which is more than what NASL and IPL sometimes get.

All those years of bw training are now gone and they will have to play the gimmicky, volatile and mechanically streamlined game that is sc2.
Please Blizzard, if you really want to keep these BW pros and ensure the long life of SC2, for god's sake raise the skill ceiling and remove blob v blob.
just to let you know that SC2 is kinda moved away form blob vs blob.
Nope, can't really recall a game that isn't blob v blob unless it is TvT. Most of them are blob v blob cuz it would be stupid to split your forces and play at such a disadvantage when grouping all your units into one army is the most effective. I follow both games and zvp, zvt and tvp are still blob vs blob.
Only blob I remember looking at was the entirety of BW. Glad it's leaving.

Clearly you're an ignorant moron. BW has been around longer yes, but it is currently and in my opinion will and should always be present in the competitive scene. It's a different game. You'll find dozens of threads explaining and discussing this all over TL. Please do some research before you make stupidly obtuse statements on subjects you have no informational basis to comment on.
What the hell is going on here? How did the first guy get a warning for his statement while this other guy just throws trash at him in the name of BW and gets away with it? :/ |

The first post was no-effort and kind of trollish. While the second post was a lot worse in terms of post quality it was more of an emotional reaction which I guess the mods take into account. |

I watch both games, and I browse both forums here on tl. This is just unfair, he did not deserve a warning for this. We are on the sc2 forum, and he stated something factually true and unconfutable. For the record far worse happens in the bw forums, without any action taken.(other than justified bans for trolling obv). Be fairer, TL.
I agree completely. Would love to get a reason for why he was warned, or find out which mod did it or if anything will be done to said mod. It's hilarious that BW fans get away with more than SC2 fans do on SC2 forums, while if someone even as much as breathes a word of SC2 not being worthless in the BW forums its an automatic ban. |

As far as the OP. It kills me to see BW die and watch my favorite BW pros play SC2. But Id rather see them play SC2 than retire entirely. At least I can watch them one way or the other. |

There is no more fanbase for broodwar if you are 14 you don't want to watch a game that is older than you are, you much rather want to play some fps or lol or some casual game with you friends. In Pc-Bangs people play lol or dota2 or world of warcraft, there will be no new generation of broodwar players. The traffic on all the broodwar fansites is going down, on Tl if you get 5 new threads a day in the broodwar forums that is already a lot. Iccup is slowly but surely dieing, other broodwar ladders already stopped their service. People that still watch broodwar are probably between 20-40 years old or korean girls that adore some pros. I watch OSL games occasionally just because broodwar was an awesome game for like 8 years of my life, but i don't get up in the middle of the night just to watch a game anymore. It just seems that there is no more money in broodwar and there are rumors that most of the broodwar pros already started playing Starcraft 2. So yeah i agree with the person at the start that it is inevitable that broodwar broadcasts will end some day. Nobody really knows if that is in a year or two but broodwar wont be there for another 15 years for sure. |

It would most likely be a good idea to do so, however, when said action angers a lot of the SC2 members, which are a great big number of the forum members, which indirectly support TL by seeing ads. |
