Or "come on lovey, time to put your feet up and have a nice retirement".

I love how you interpret it in the wrong way on purpose..

Some people don't like forced retirement. If I'm Flash and I'm still the son of a bitch who's taking names left and right with a lot of guys still gunning for me. You really think I would want to retire from a game where I'm on top of the food chain?

Here's the the rub. It's all about what you say and how you say it.

I never even watched a BW PL except for a couple of nights in the last year, and I've only ever really played SC2, but it still makes me very sad to see BW diminishing. I hope they somehow keep strong the tradition. The old PLs are just so eSports, so much fun to watch. :C

You should have seen last night man. Better yet check it out tonight. The Koreans know how to get loud for BW.

More like going to an out dated computer lab and going "Gah, windows 95, why dont you just upgrade to windows 7?"

I believe this would be received well. Extreme analogies dont help anyone.

Your analogy isn't any better because the game isn't broken. In fact, lots of people enjoy looking at it and the game runs super fast. We have a ton of tools we can use for it too.

Baseball is over 100 years old, is one side of you saying " people need to move on from baseball it's an old game" ?

So what's your point ?

Comparing physical sports and the effects of aging to electronic sports and the effects of aging on them is, well, ineffective.
In physical sports, they only get better with age due to things like enhanced gear and viewing equipment due to technological advancements; however, electronic sports are constantly recycled because that very technological advancement means that games become obsolete.
Let's be honest here: BW looks like shit and has horrible, horrible AI and poor methods of controlling your units compared to modern standards. Furthermore, the playerbase has been steadily consolidated to the truly good players, meaning that anyone who does happen to see a shitty looking game and still wants to play it will soon be deterred from playing anyways due to being endlessly slaughtered. That means that the playerbase and fanbase will steadily atrophy away, causing a slow death for the video game. These factors have been the cause of death for many eSPORTS. There is no reason to believe the cycle will stop just because BW has an incredibly hardcore fanbase.
You aren't the first, and you won't be the last.

As an SC2 player who has mostly switched to BW I'm saddened by the possibility of them phasing out SC:BW Proleague. I wish they could just maintain both leagues and if/when BW viewership drops (which I doubt it would) they could end it. Perhaps that would inhibit SC2's growth in Korea too much, idk. I suppose it was bound to happen eventually... Thankfully there are still plenty of old VODs from BW history that I haven't seen yet.
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

...while the "elders" piss on your hobby on a daily basis? I'm sorry, but that comparison doesn't even stand up to a casual persusal of any thread which is related to SC2 and attracts BW fans.

I find it laughable that people here think that BW's popularity is on a decline when infact SC2 is also losing it's fanbase because of it's casual nature, they are now transfering to LoL. Atleast LoL and BW has a mainstream access on nation-wide TV while SC2 has..... yeah thought so.

lol at the stupidity of post of this thread and the other one on BW that has the same topic.

if bw dies then what will JD and flash do? play on afreeca for balloons like mjy? no way. they will have to move to sc2 as BW has been their life and future. but it sucks that sc2 will NOT appeal to their high skill and challenge them like bw. they will play for $$$ and because they have no choice. which is very different from when they joined BW...it was their choice and true passion. kespa is now switching games and they will be forced to....this does not sit well with me nor will it with them. All those years of bw training are now gone and they will have to play the gimmicky, volatile and mechanically streamlined game that is sc2.

Please Blizzard, if you really want to keep these BW pros and ensure the long life of SC2, for god's sake raise the skill ceiling and remove blob v blob.

This is exactly how i feel about this whole thing.

In sc2 the skill difference is so low, do you really have to practice hours and hours to learn how to forcefield, split your army, hitting fungals etc? No. It's all way too damn casual. Only terran is an OK designed race right now in my opinion, but nowhere near how BW was designed.

In BW the first thing you have to learn is constantly making workers and sending them to mine. Recalls, muta micro, lurker hold, defiler use, 1a2a3a4a5a6a come way later. There is so much to do and improve on, that's why the game got so big.
SC2 is not the better game, which it is supposed to be since it is a sequel.

I've watched and played plenty of sc2 to know what it's like.

MKP doesn't practice as hard as people think, but he does practice a lot, just not as much as many players his level or even lower than him. A lot of it has to do with his style and how he practices. Also being a former BW pro is a big factor.

One word: ForGG. The best being an ex-BW pro can do for you, at least from what we've seen thus far, is prove that you have the determination and talent to succeed at RTS gaming. Nothing more, nothing less. These days, when comparing success in the two games, it seems like BW just weeds out the talentless and lazy more than anything else. Doesn't seem to be a golden pass into roflstomping all the greatest SC2 pros.

It doesn't even make sense that they would transfer to LoL from SC2 due to it being 'too casual'

Honestly as awesome as an OGN run sc2 league sounds this also scares the crap out of me. No one will deny Kespa hasn't done great things for sc:bw, but at the same time it also quashed and GOMtv's attempts to get into broodwar and is generally extremely restrictive and harsh in its rules and judgments. Leaving the complete negotiations rights out is definitely the right thing to do, but at the same time in broodwar they didn't have the rights either but that didn't stop them from taking complete control of the scene in Korea.

It could be really great things for sc2, but it could also be terrible for SC2 in Korea.

Graphically it is an improved version, and the visuals are most of what matters in a predominately spectator sport.

But these stupid analogies aside; Kespa would only be making this decision if they saw a decline in viewing figures for BW that made it a lot less of a risk to attempt switching over and uprooting a massive community and a large player base. Clearly the viewer figures have reached a point where it is no longer monetarily an option for them to keep going with this sinking ship, so-to-say. After all they are a big business, and money is everything to them.
