Hm korea is weird... why does any organization have the exclusive rights to hold tournaments? No wonder SC2 didn't take off there as well as it did in the west (well, that and BW ofc).

I've heard some pretty bad sounding stuff about kespa... I hope they don't get nearly as much power over the SC2 scene as they have over BW.

Kespa is the best thing to have happened to esports but everyone acts like they're satan incarnate. I guess they're all mad leta fans or something.

I for one can't wait to have a second Korean SC2 tournament. I'm curious how the two organizations will position themselves versus the foreigner scene.

Without BW "e-sports" is effectively dead. Can't wait to see SC2 get replaced by some mobile phone game in the near future.
I deleted SC2 because it sucks

Err... really?
Pretty sure SC2 is an e-sport in itself not to mention a handfull of other games.

I agree.
While I understand people being mad over pros being treated like slaves and doing nothing but grinding games, but things like strict rules during games are logical. Those rules turned BW from a computer game into legitimate sport.

For instance because if you are punished for pausing the game yourself or writing shit in chat you cannot make an advantage for yourself that is beyond the game. Making breaks like this (which can easily be faked and I am sure sometimes there are in SC2) lets the player with less concentration and stamina rest.

So what you are saying is that games like, Quake, counter strike, painkiller, tf, WC3, unreal never existed? (i can go on and on and on)

I came to a conclusion that u sir, no nothing about e-sports. You only see one game that u consider "e-sports" while there is thousand of other games out there is as big as BW is in korea but on a global scale.

All i can say about this is: Gonna sit back, relax and wait for more news to pop up about this situation.

Lets just say in more physical sports practicing more per day can be counterproductive or they just don't bother finding out if 12h of practice per day gives better results. Also it is harder to pay for a basketball court and all the people that need to maintain it if the team practices 12h per day instead of 4h.

Many people believe that the rules set by KespA were too restrictive,
like requesting a pause is "pp" and if you write "ppp" by accident you lose the game.

Seems like a weapon of 90% on this forums. But whats up with the slavery. Its up to teams to dictate how their players train not kespa.

Many people don't know that Kespa realised this was stupid and as such subsequently changed it. Esports was new territory, it's unrealistic to not expect any growing pains.

Not only this, but the Esports we refer to and THEY refer to is drastically different. Some player would not ever write some bullshit in game. Why? Well its broadcasted to hundred thousand people, you cant do the same shit you do on battle net yo. Thats how enforcing professionalism works. Be it NBA, FIFA or Kespa (woops!).

He actually saw one e-sport that has been bigger and better organised than arguably all of those examples put together, and has been at that kind of structural organisation for far longer than any e-sport, past or current.

It is arguable that with the death of BW, e-sports would actually be dead. But to say there are thousands of games out there as big as BW is in korea but on a global scale, is just blatantly wrong. There is maybe 2 esports as big as BW is globally right now. There are 0 e-sports as big globally as BW is in korea, and for that matter 0 e-sports as big in Korea as BW is.

I don't think you quite understand just how big BW in Korea is, and historically how big it has been. While I agree it's too early to say e-sports will be dead without BW, it's probably not a good idea to tell someone they 'no nothing about e-sports' then be even more wrong in the same post.

1. The sweatshop/slavery rants are old. You simply choose to not understand it and that's your problem. Which brings me to my next point.

2. You don't even know what KeSPA is.

End of discussion right there. This is becoming way too common. Please educate yourselves before you try to throw haymakers.

Please name these other thousand games that are all on television channels, have government support, and have been around for over a decade.

There simply isn't a single game that has achieved the mainstream cultural impact BW has and yet people want it killed off to popularize a game that may not even be around in a few years.

Can't wait to see the old BW personal in the spotlight.

keeping harsh rules while they play their official matches has nothing 2 do with being slaved~~

so yes i dont see how having a contract that says u have 2 practice 8-10 hours (different from the teams) is slavery...
if they decide 2 play more they can. if not they dont have 2.

You realise the guy you're quoting is on your "side"? Man, some people in this thread seem so defensive they jump at anyone, even people with similar opinions.

The original guy said that "without BW esports is effectively dead", something that's clearly not true. The reply was that there's alot of other esport titles and has been since about the same time BW came out. If you want to argue that BW is the only "true" esport then go ahead.

I don't know if some games are close to or as big as BW, it's hard to gauge as they are more spread out.

Oh no We're getting into the realm of getting overly specific and getting overly game X is better than game Y territory
