Expansions were not a must buy in GW1 and you could play each 'expansion' on its own without the others, even without the original 'vanilla' GW1. All it meant is that you didn't have access to some skills which were exclusive to each expansion. Admittedly those skills were very much useful in a lot of the 'end-game' stuff, they weren't actually compulsory to play the game.
I have no idea if they will use a similar system for GW2. |

i went to the store and they showed me the pre-purchase box.
it seems that the code inside is the only serial you will use to play. that means that you wont need to go back to the store and get a disc.
sad day, i dont want to download 25gbs 
from the box

As far as ArenaNet goes, they'll release "major" content through expansions, and "major" content "upgrades" through patches. The first content release will be the Charr Underworld, and as far as I'm concerned, this will be a patch. |

Well I am guessing you need to use the same ncsoft account in order to reserve name, spot in hall of whatever etc etc.

Mike-OBrien-ArenaNet We're working on this error now. Since you're seeing this error during the registration phase, you've already successfully purchased the game, and have a key you can use to complete registration any time. There's no need to stay up tonight waiting.

Yeah, it seems everyone is getting the 502 error. Oh well, good enough to have bought it
EDIT: I was able to register now... basically, just refresh the 502 page now and again and eventually you'll get through.
