After you get the blackscreen, "just" log in over and over and try to play with that char.
Eventually it'll work.
Played for 1.5 hours just now. Server kicked me during an event. Now I can't get back in... |

| Well i give up for the night xD Managed to play 10minutes, did the first long quest then was exploring the city! Oh well i noticed more log in bugs were getting fixed so maybe by tomorrow morning it will be alot better! GL HF |

Valashu was speaking to a guy for a while, then tried to invite him to a party. He was having difficulty trying to invite him to party and we were trying out a variety of commands like /party and /invite. Eventually he realised that he was talking to an NPC.

| My experience so far has been amazing. 3+ hours of trying to login, then 15 mins of extremely laggy play. Now I'm going to sleep in hopes that they fix all this stuff by tomorrow. /sigh |

The game has been atrocious so far to be honest, the constant lag, the inability to log in and get any play time at all, the scaling of the events = terrible, some bosses one shot you and therefore you are continuously asking for res or just going back to the waypoints, because of this your armor breaks incredibly quickly which escalates this effect even more, the repairing armour is a terrible system.
Overall, i was incredibly hyped for this game and was really looking forward to some awesome play time, severely disappointed and if it's like this at release, i'm going to ask for a refund, because this is abysmal and i havent enjoyed one moment of it. 2) Since about midnight, granted there's been less traffic, but the zones are still pretty well populated and it's been lag free and logging in fine. Whether ANet did something or it was simply the drop in people I don't know. It's promising though.
3) Bosses that one shot have really obvious attack animations for you to dodge.
Since the servers calmed down had a lot of fun with Valashu and Co, look forward to tomorrow  (and hope the servers stay good!) |

1) i would see your point as valid if this was a closed beta test, this is an open beta test and thus it should be at least playable, which it has not been.
2) i have been receiving lag wherever i go, for the very limited time i had, and its not my computer nor my internet.
3) this wasnt even a boss, it was a a veteran (or even champion) charr legion mini boss. It didnt have any attack animations at all to indicate what or who it was going to hit. Last edit: 2012-04-28 11:51:50 |

The open beta started rocky and claiming that that's a reason to call Anet out is being plain unreasonable. They've managed to fix most of it, I logged in completely fine an hour ago and played for an hour with absolutely no lag or drop in performance before being kicked off the server, which I'm taking as a sign it's time to sleep.
Can't comment on 3 as I haven't experienced any of that so far. |

I hate the attitude where you feel you are entitled to a perfect experience during their -beta- test, and call them out on their performance in the first 6 hours.
edit: the reason I suspect it should start working for you again is because I was experience the exact same problems you are reporting when I first started trying to play. It was unplayable with constant lag and it was nearly impossible to log in or stay logged in for more than 5 minutes. However I didn't start calling Anet out on it as I noticed that they were acknowledging the problem on their Twitter and were trying their best to fix it. 6 hours later I found that it was much better with almost no lag and I am enjoying the game very much.Last edit: 2012-04-28 12:33:28 |

I guess you don't understand the point of a stress test? And beta is beta whether it's closed or open. It's not the ready product, no idea why you are expecting one. Entitled much?

Anyone know how you bind stuff to modifiers like alt-4 and control-3, cant stand having to use 67890 on the keyboard?
Also first impressions, the combat seems a bit meh, dodge is unresponsive and you have to stop moving (ie if your walking forward you have to stop, and then double tap d to roll right) and its very button masherish(is that a word?) to me. |
