I understand that this would have terrible ramifications on the world-wide ecosystem and that it's terrible and inhumane, and we should stop it at once. But seriously, fuck bees. |

| Really hope something can be done about this. Can't really begin to imagine what would happen if one of our best pollinators just all died out :/ |

| Bees are like responsible for a full 3rd of all the crops the U.S. has per year. this is quite a good find to finally find a cause. |

This sucks. I'm glad they at least are investigating this and hopefully can enact changes to protect the bees which are so important in pollinating our crops. That being said.... + Show Spoiler + On March 30 2012 17:51 RockIronrod wrote: But seriously, fuck bees.

It's very serious issue in my opinion, much more important than global warming and other environment issues. Garbage corporations like Monsanto have a super powerful lobby and government approval to spread their shit all over the globe. It's very sad indeed.
edit : why does it look like nobody is taking this seriously. There was a big debate on TL about shark fins, but bees are much more important than sharks. wth ?Last edit: 2012-03-30 18:09:14 |

| The OP should explain why bees are so important. Do you like plants? Bees are kinda important in the reproduction of plants. |

RockIronrod, bees are awesome, what the fuck is wrong with you? Wasps I could understand, some people hate spiders, slugs, but bees only hurt people that needlessly go near them? Are you in some part of Australia where they are a constant pest that makes regular hives near/in your home (outside wall etc)?
Oh, by the way, Ellie the Elephant told me personally that pesticides are hurting Beesports, I don't know why anyone is surprised about this though, you (not me though) basically spray anti-bug poison on plants and then wonder why bugs that aren't the exact intended target race start to "go missing"/die out.Last edit: 2012-03-30 18:56:29 |

| if bees went extinct there would be a ton of plants/food that would be wiped out from the natural ecosystem due to them having very small chance of reproducing. I imagine the general lush diversity of the vegetation on earth would be reduced to weeds for a very very long time.. Last edit: 2012-03-30 18:55:29 |

Bees make a large proportion of food production possible for mankind. Then they make antibacterial candy out of the profits.
Seriously, bees are like the insect version of unicorns. They even have fuzzy uniforms.Last edit: 2012-03-30 19:11:51 |

you mean those things that trees rely on to cross pollinate?
Also, this just in, pesticides harm ALL living animals. Humans have the same parts that are affected by pesticides.
http://garden.lovetoknow.com/wiki/How_do_Pesticides_Kill_Bugs Show nested quote +Organophosphates are a class of chemicals commonly used in pesticides. These chemicals adversely affect the nervous system. Organophosphates are regulated in the United States by the Environmental Protection Agency. The following organophosphates are commonly used in products used to kill stinging insects and beetles:
Diazinon Fenthion Malathion Methyl-parathion Sulfotepp Trichlorfon
Both individuals and exterminators use these pesticides. The products can be easily found at your local gardening center. Because of the lethal aspects of this class of pesticides, it is recommended that pets and children be kept off of lawns and out of gardens when they have been applied.
Do any of you magically think pesticides disappear? Your edible foods can absorb pesticides. drop pesticides on the ground, and water will leech it into the plant and the food. How do you think it kills bugs? Bugs arent on the plants 100% of the time. Bugs must get poisoned by the pesticide a little or even a long time after spraying, since it wouldnt make sense that you would have to spray daily. So where does the pesticide rest? On and in the fruit/vegetable. what do we feed cows, apart from chopped up spare cow and horse bits? crops that have been sprayed.
