Semifinal Recap

With the conclusion of the round-of-4, the finals have been set for the GSTL's first trip overseas. The boys at StarTale were able to overcome past inconsistency, at least for a night, when Squirtle and Curious showed up with their A-game in tow and took out both DongRaeGu and Genius before either could win a game. They played well and valiantly, defeating both some interesting cheeses and creating their own aggressive moves when the chips were down. PartinG was about the only part of their roster that didn't impress, falling to TAiLS in which he never had much of an advantage.

Meanwhile over at the Prime house things continue to look up for MarineKing. Making it through Code S with ease, and winning two major titles in the last month, tonight he took down Leenock to lead his team into the GSTL finals one week from now.

Though it needs to be said that MKP was only a small part of the equation. BBoongBBoong and Byun took the bulk of the burden, defeating GuMiHo, asd, Lucky, and Choya between them. In the past weeks we have seen Choya do well on specific maps with clearly timed out builds, but Byun's 1-base all-in apparently threw him off his game and took out the coach before he could show exactly what it was he had planned.

Neither Prime nor StarTale have been able to capture a title yet in Korea's most prestigious team league, and in one week one of them will prove who deserves it more in a best-of-11 contest in Las Vegas. Excitement is high and the conclusion of the inaugural run of the 2012 GSTL will surely be incredible.

Where was Oz today? Is he abroad or did Choya find it reasonable to put himself in the game instead of the superior protoss player that is Oz. If the second is true I'm not too sad FXO + Show Spoiler + lost the game.

He chose himself, ASD, and Gumiho over Oz.

Man StartaleQ vs Prime earlier in the tournament was such a great matchup, can't wait to the final in Vegas. Hope Nani or Sase gets to show their stuff in the final.

Look at the date of your post. The tweet you read was posted on the same date. FXO is not disbanding.

Choya put himself ahead of Oz.

Oz's vT hasn't been good lately while Choya has not only recently defeated Byun, but also defeated MMA (twice) and Ryung in the past 2 weeks or so. His vT is much better statistically than Oz's lately so he put himself in, and I thought it was a legitimate move since Oz was probably being saved for CreatorPrime in a PvP snipe. Choya even had the advantage in both eco and tech, but in the last minute before engagement, he managed to throw away way too many stalkers, and not have any answer to the 2 cloaked banshees despite seeing them. He also let blue flame hellion drops do too much damage despite scouting it and deflecting it the first attempt. All he had to do was hold and he would've won, and with 2 colossus, it should've been easier than it ended up.

Please, stop the Choya hate, not playing Oz was very specific a reason, and he still had Leenock left. Just think about it, if he knocked out Byun, FXO would've been in a much better position, having them throw yet another T at Choya's PvT. Also putting Gumiho in over Oz is fine as Gumiho has a much more balanced overall record so he stood a higher chance of just randomly getting a kill or two. the choice of asd is strange, but if asd had something prepared for a map/matchup then you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Prime played better overall, and in some instances, just BARELY (lucky throwing away his lead against byun, choya's last minute collapse, or even leenock's game against mkp) edging out some wins.

gg prime, one of my favorite teams, but i respect and love fxo as well and hope they come back stronger in season 2! FIGHTING

Poor Choya

It must be hard being a player and a coach for your team.

I agree with you that based on the specific situation, Choya wasn't wrong (or just barely wrong) in sending himself out over Oz. However, from an overall perspective FXO has their big three: Leenock, Gumiho, and Oz and it hurts to get knocked out without playing all three of their big three. FXO's second tier: Lucky, Choya, and ASD just aren't as good overall and only two of them should be played in such an important team match. If Choya knew from the beginning that he didn't want to send Oz out against Terrans, then he should have played Oz second to take out B4 and try to draw out a strong Prime player early. There's no point in protecting one of your top three players from a snipe if you're going to get yourself into a position where you won't play him at all. Even if ASD takes out B4, can you really expect him to have a better chance vs Prime's next player than Oz?

Plus that allows for the option of Lucky, Asd, or Choya later on based on matchup (although almost guaranteed to be terran with Prime's top 5 consisting of 3 terrans) with Leenock set as the final boss.

Choya has been really clutch this season as a player and has usually made good strategic decisions so I don't want to pound him too hard, but this time he didn't seem to have planned too well.
Playing better than standard requires deviation. This divergence usually results in sub-standard play.
