Most of the soon-to-be-dead people they somehow manage to convince to monitor exams at the higher education in Holland are already confused by the concept that you can communicate with a phone without talking.
A friend of mine does an IT study. The amount of cheating that goes on there is just flat out ridiculous. All of the supervisors for an exam are old people, like 80+ old. All hundred or so students can do whatever they feel like on their phones, these people just don't understand what is going on.
With these glasses they might as well abolish the exams, lol. |

The future is here. Not surprising at all. This is already predicted by Michio Kaku.

This would be so incredibly dangerous... Walking around (traffic, obstacles, etc) while focusing on something like a screen is generally a bad idea. It's a really cool concept but it would probably create a new menace to society similar to texting while driving.
Yea but you die watching Starcraft, there are worse ways to go. |

Now there's the 21st-century technology I was promised!
And they better get prepared for first death from a guy that crosses a street while video-calling with his eyeglasses. That's a giant lawsuit waiting to happen. Or maybe it'll have a disclaimer list a million miles long and they'll skate by with that. |

I completely hear what you are saying, and agree entirely in that both there are certain technologies in which man should not pursue, and then there are those in which you don't introduce a new technology without having a very good idea of what the possible outcomes and detriments caused by it could be.
fine point taken. but this will be verbal and just god confusing |

I will probably wait till 2nd or 3rd gen before I get it, but that is mainly cause I probably won't be able to afford it.
Looks pretty awesome though. I wonder if they will have a model for people who already wear glasses |

Technology like this (HUD) won't appeal to me until I don't even have to talk, just think. As has been said, it would be fucking annoying with everyone randomly talking around you. You would eventually assume NO ONE ever actually talked to you. Then again, by the time they're actually incorporated into our thoughts, you probably wouldn't need the glasses in the first place, they would access the actual visual input from our eyes.
The traffic hazard issues can, and will, be worked around eventually. Imagine for example when all cars are automated to some degree, and all pedestrians wear these glasses. Then the cars could actually sense the pedestrians, even behind obstacles, and brake accordingly if someone is about to step out in front of them. Pedestrian crossings could also interact with the glasses and alert the wearer that the light is red and/or there is a car coming.
I, as well, welcome our new Google overlords. |

| Why isn't there more caps lock and profanity in this thread? Have we all become so jaded? I mean, if the functionality in their youtube video isn't a gross exaggeration, THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING, HOLY FUCK. Maybe I'm just easily impressed, but even current smart-phones seem pretty incredible to me when I really think about how far technology has advanced over the past 10 or 20 years. |

Haha. I was kinda thinking of that too.
On a practical level, wouldn't the images be too close to read properly? I have my computer screen a good foot and a half a way from my eyes and I certainly don't hold a book up that close to my face. It seems it'd be way too hard to actually focus on the information unless they can somehow make it appear at a comfortable reading level.
Unless they're supposed to be like this....
