Hey guys I just got brood war, and I'm horrible.. I play sc2 but wanna play brood War because of a known player named "Flash".
I heard there were different servers. And what not, like iccup. I would like to join iccup because I heard a lot about hacks on normal battlenet ladder. Can you guys please help me get started on everything I need to know about sc:BW? <3 |

| To make a game you need to download the iccup map pack and unzip it into your map folder and just join a game under one ve one or make a game in one vs one mode like '1v1 D etc'. Make sure you have iccup AH running. |

When you go to iCCup, join the channel op teamliquid and you will find help if there is a soul there that is not afk.
To host games you may need to portfoward your router. Being able to host a game will make your life much much easier to find games.
There is a guide somewhere on TL, but I can't seem to find it... |

| As someone who also began playing SC2 before BW, let me tell you that it is important not to get disheartened if you lose a lot. BW is a very different game, mechanically harder, and the average skill of your opponent is higher than it would be in SC2 usually. Don't be suprise if you lose a LOT, but just keep going. |

Terran is the hardest race. Grind out games for the three matchups against computer with one build for each, though the AI will do dumb shit. Standard is 1 Barracks Expand vs Z, Siege Expand vs P, 1 Factory Expand vs T I think. Or you can be crazy and do 14 Command Center for each  Write down or memorize them. Remember, mechanics>all in the early stages; keep your APM up and macro/micro sharp and the builds will feel more and more routine, allowing you to focus on stragy/decisions. Try to find someone to play with at your level, it will keep you motivated much longer.

| I'm not exactly sure where to ask this but I'm going to add this to your post because pretty sure this is not new-thread-worthy. Can one play UMS maps on ICCup, and if so is it active? I lost my copy of broodwar many years ago and can't seem to find it anymore. |

Yeah, occasionally you will see micro-tournament/BGH/Fastest just make sure to host them as Use Map Settings instead of one on one  . |

Just need to remeber that the port to map is 6112 for both TCP and UDP.
It only gets tricky when there are two people with the same public IP who want to join the same game. |
