I was watching Selects stream, http://www.twitch.tv/dignitasselect on 1080p and his game was looking wayy smoother than mine. Does anyone know how to game to look that smooth. I get 130+ FPS and have a 60Hz monitor? What does he do that I'm missing?
TL;DR I have a high FPS, but mine does not look as nearly as smooth as his.
SOLUTION: It was fixed by turning on vsync and using fullscreen mode in most games.Last edit: 2012-04-15 08:03:49 |

Maybe this should go into Tech Support part of the forum?
On your question, I have no answer but I would love to hear if someone has cuz I am also on pretty high FPS but game kinda feels... choppy.
Low graphic settings, latest Nvidia drivers. |

i know exactly what ur talking about, i HAD the same issue despite running an i7 970 w/ 2x 6970s and 3mb up. Turns out it has nothing to do with computer performance, rather the difference in refresh rates between ingame and desktop. I now use Dxtory w/ xsplit and i literally cannot tell that i am even streaming, i highly suggest it.
edit: in case ur interested, there's a guide here on TL on how to setup dxtoryLast edit: 2012-04-14 09:19:35 |

Yeah I just played an AI game today, same problem. To clarify, its not like unplayable or THAT annoying, but its not nearly as clear as Select when he is streaming. I have also seen many other games where people upload high FPS screen caps, and they all look smoother than any of the games on my computer, but I get 100+ fps in all of my games. This happens throughout all games.Last edit: 2012-04-14 09:38:32 |

I have never really noticed how bad it was until I have recently seen some high FPS screen recordings of other poeples games. I just went to watch a Dota2 game, and the same thing is happening. It has really high fps, but if I zoom in on the creep animations I can see that it is smooth for a second, and then the animation lags for just a moment ( my fps stays high this whole time) and then resumes being smooth. This is very weird ... I have the latest drivers for my 560 btw. |

| I believe the problem I have is called "frame skipping". Im reading more into it and while report back what I find. |

Yes, FPS is only an average value. If your program renders say 20 frames in 0.2 seconds, sits there for 0.4 seconds, renders 40 frames in 0.4 second, you still have 60 FPS, but you have 0.4 seconds of no frames being displayed, and see a very choppy pause. This is a bit exaggerated, but serves to explain the problem.
There are many things that can cause issues like this, so it's hard to track down the cause. |

| I found that my game is a lot smoother when on "fullscreen" than "fullscreen windowed", even though both mode are on 120 hz refresh rate. Try fullscreen if you are not already running on this setting, also helps a little on FPS. |

| Try actually posting system specs, or my diagnosis will involve several types of paranormal phenomena. |

Uhm, make sure your ping and jitter are low. Now I actually am thinking paranormal phenomena, unless you have driver or connection issues.
Drivers are up to date, windows up to date? Chipset drivers installed?
Your system SHOULD be fine, so this might take a bit, since it's just "not feeling smooth".Last edit: 2012-04-14 11:24:18 |

DDR=Dual data rate, it's supposed to show that way. |

Only thing that seems logical is your ping is really bad.
Could you test it on pingtest.net and bring back the results? |

Your OS and drivers are all up to date? Does switching between fullscreen and windowed help?
Run memtest86+ overnight, run P95 and furmark to test temps.
Got an AV or other intense background tasks running? |

Right click on starcraft 2.exe , select compatibility tab , then disable desktop composition . Do this to all the games that u play on windows 7 It is an Aero glitch. EDIT: Or much more simple is to disable the AERO theme periodLast edit: 2012-04-14 12:12:45 |
