So I've been throwing this idea around a bit. A lot of TL plays Dota 2, so we should have a tournament! The winning team gets a pair of Dota 2 Beta keys (which should have 2 invites with them) for their friends who haven't been invited yet! (thanks you Bumblebee for donating them) as well as a share of the prize-pool that's still open to donation. The final prize amounts will be announced once the donation is over!
The tournament will be held on the 26th May 2012. Registration will begin at 8AM PST/11AM EST/5PM CEST, and the first round will begin at one hour later. If team numbers are high enough, the later stages of the tournament may be moved to Sunday 27th May.
I's going to be a double elimination tournament for up to 64 teams, so first come first serve applies. All rounds will be Bo1, except the grand finals, which will be a Bo3. We have THREE streams showing as many games as we can, with special commentators Bumblebee and Flamewheel!
Standard rules of tourneys apply, but I've written them in the spoiler below, so there is no confusion. Ofc, if I've missed anything, please point it out so it can be rectified.
The Open format is a double elimination tournament for up to 64 teams. Every round of the tournament will be BO1, except for the Grand Finals which will be played as a BO3 Series, with no advantage for the team coming out of the Winners Bracket.
1.2 Schedule
The tournament will be held on the 26th May 2012 as a one day tournament. Registration will begin at 8AM PST/11AM EST/5PM CEST, and the first round will begin at one hour later. Teams should consult with a tournament admin before starting a match in case the game is to be casted, and report the score to a tournament admin once the match is finished.
1.3 Appearance and Behavior
Flawless behavior, during and between matches, and willingness to communicate with admins and other players is absolutely required. Furthermore punctuality is essential for a smooth competition.
1.4 Communication
Steam is not only the gaming, but also the primary communication platform of the tournament. The team captain of each team has to make sure he has all admins and at least one representative of the opposing teams on his friend list and is available as much as possible. Admins will also be present in the IRC channel #TLDotaOpen on quakenet, and a channel with the same name in Dota 2 for any queries.
1.5 Roster Lock and Names
Team Rosters are LOCKED 48 Hours before the tournament. Display Names should match the names filled out on the Roster, and any changes should be PMed to one of the tournament administrators prior to Roster Lock. The nickname of each players in steam during a match has to be similar to his Team Liquid ID (as registered previously and shown on the initial team signup). Slight changes are allowed, but everyone has to be easily identifiable for admins and viewers. Concerning any non-TL member in the team, the nickname should be similar to the one stated in the initial sign-up.
1.6 Game Version
The players must always have the newest version of Dota installed. Make sure you update in time and not two minutes before the match.
1.7 Game settings
All games get hosted by a captain from each team until the semi-finals, at which point any subsequent game will be hosted by an admin. The server location for all matches will be decided announced by an admin. The sides (Radiant/Dire) get decided by coin toss, the players have to join the slots underneath their team’s name. The remaining settings will always be:
Game Mode: CAPTAINS MODE Starting Team: Random Fill empty slots with bots: No Enable cheats: No Allow spectators: No Game version: Tournament
1.8 Pauses
Each team has the right to pause the game for an acceptable duration, if a player announces it at least three seconds in advance and calls a coherent reason (exception: not necessary, if someone disconnects). The game must not be resumed before both teams agree with it.
1.9 Disconnects & Reconnects
If a player disconnects, the game is to be paused instantly. If the game timer reads 5 minutes or less, it will be a regame AP with the same picks. Otherwise, the disconnected player(s) have up to ten minutes to reconnect to the game (if the same person disconnects more the once, all times get added up). If this time is passed, the opposing team may request an admin decision to continue the game. The affected player is in this case still allowed to rejoin later on.
1.10 Tools / Hacks
The usage of any Dota-related tool aside from Steam and Dota 2 during a match is strictly forbidden.
1.11 Ending
A game is finished, when an Ancient Fortress is destroyed, when one team obviously forfeits, when the majority of a team leaves on purpose, or when the administration decides on it. After the game, the captain of the WINNING team will contact an admin, quoting the opponent and game ID number for confirmation.
1.12 Casting
There will be 3 streams casting the tournament, all on a 60s delay. Prior to a game being played, teams will be notified that their game will be casted and teams will wait for the casters to enter the broadcast spots before starting. Ghosting is strictly prohibited, and any team caught ghosting will be immediatly DQ'd.
1.13 Etc.
Any team with a conflict or question pertaining to their game, any bugs that occur or tournament structure should contact a tournament admin. Any ruling made by tournament admins are FINAL. Most importantly, this is a Community Open... have fun.

Alright, I have a few extra beta keys and they should all have two extra invites on them. So I'll throw two beta keys (assumably with 2 extra invites each) to the winning team that they can give to their friends~!
Edit: Hassybaby just PM me when the tournament is over and I'll give 'em to the winners

There is no difference between a knight and any other man aside from what he wears.
I'm in, but we don't know the name of the team yet,(((((((((((((((((((. So many great ideas.
