? There's 4 clear frontrunner teams that could all take each other out considering individual skill and mix/pug status. |

| I hope the brackets properly spread out the 3-4 top teams so we can hopefully see some epic semifinals/finals. |

adding money made it no longer a "tl" dota 2 open theres pretty much no point in playing with hs teams unless you are one yourself similar to the no grandmaster tournies and whatnot |

Well you can sort like a top 2 or top 4 by putting them on opposite sides then randoming the rest, its not like that makes it any less fair than full random, if you define fair as giving everyone an equal chance to win based upon their skill.
But whatever. |

With the current number of teams, a fair number will be recieving byes for the first round.
The problem with not randomizing the teams is where we draw the line for the "Top" teams. I mean I have a good idea but still, how would you feel to be the team that made it just below the cutoff line?
However I also see the other side of the argument, that it would be unappealing to have the top teams knock each other out, essitially moving the finals to the start of the tournament.
Unfortunatly this is what happens when you can't seed teams, and the skill level is diverse.
At the moment I don't know how I am going to fix it yet. Right now I am pretty much just going to hit the "Shuffle Seeds" button until the outcome is pleasing to my eye. Like I do when hosting mafia.
EDIT: OK so the first rendition of the Bracket was completely random, and Im pretty sure all of the "top" teams are somehow already spread out to opposite ends of the bracket.
Well done universe. Well done.Last edit: 2012-04-24 10:45:50 |

So...don't play? I don't see the other teams having issues with a few pros playing. hell, a lot of hem seem excited. Also, since when was money, or lack of, a pre-requisite for a TL Open? All of the SC2 Opens have had money. They've also had pros playing in them...Last edit: 2012-04-24 20:58:28 |

Would it be possible to have a list of all the teams signed up so far (with players etc) added to the op? Also getting really hyped for this

while i dont mind pros and other high/mid skillers not part of TL playing in this, i agree that it does make it no longer a "TL" dota2 open since teamliquid is not primarily a dota2 website and that putting a cash prize for the tourney attracts people from outside teamliquid's community who havent given a thought otherwise since it's an easy way of making a quick buck.
though, even without a cash prize, i would guess that probably at least half the entries have less than 100 posts and the majority of the new accounts i would guess are not lurkers either, so the teams arent really representative of the TL community. for your point about pros in the SC2 opens, we do know that teamliquid is heavily involved with pro SC2, them having a official team and being the premiere foreigner SC2 website, so it's not really surprising to see them there since they are part of the community. it aint the same for dota2
basically tube's point is that it's not a tournament between members of the TL community anymore nor it is a very good tournament for us lesser skilled players, unlike the CRTL and the DRTL of the BW section. i might add that whatever intent the TL account requirement originally had, it doesnt really have a point other than forcing odd kind of team registration deadline with it since people can just sign up now.
a serious suggestion: try not to make it single elimination, it's more fun to try to get teams to play as many games as possible against different teams within the 2 allotted days. it isn't really fair for the bottom of the ladder teams to face one of the stronger teams just to play 1 bo1 and be done with the entire thing after thatLast edit: 2012-04-24 22:10:52 |

I understand the sentiment, however one thing me and Hassy discussed was how to define a member of TeamLiquid. Do we do it by post count? well that excludes people who have been registered but lurking, which is certainly a large part of TL. We ultimately decided to go with registration time. and as Hassy said, this procedure is really not that different than the TL SC2 Opens. Those had a cash prize, were single elimination best of ones, and anyone could join.
I will consider making the Bracket Double Elimination, but with over 20 teams and the games taking anywhere from 30-50 minutes, you can hopefully understand my apprehension.
As far as the link to the Bracket, I'll will get Hassy to edit it into the OP as soon as its been finalized. |
