Hey guys
My beloved MX518 has started randomly disconnecting. I have tested it out on another computer and same problem, so I guess that means its a problem with the mouse or chord.
Has anyone had this problem before, and has successfully fixed it? If so, how?
I have one of the new version which means some of the screws are probably under the mouse skates, and if I tear them off and can't get them back on, I am pretty screwed.
Thanks |

| I actually had that problem a few months ago. My solution, if you are out of warrant, buy a new one. It is a loose contact or something and you cannot do that much about it. |

Can't afford to buy a new mouse, and things can always be fixed! |

Just wanted to tell you my experiences and what I would do if I were you or what I did actually. Good luck then!! Last edit: 2012-04-15 03:49:45 |

| You have to solder something around the cord or anything like that. I checked out the logitech forums when i had this problem and if remember correctly there was a nice post how to solve this issue. But hey i didn't have the equipment and the skills to pull that off so i just bought a g400... |

See if you can "manually" disconect the mouse by curling the cable. If you can find the specific point where the cable is bad, you might be able to do something about it.
I have the same mouse, and it's still alive since 2004! |

My old logitech mouse just started doing the exact same thing. It got to where it was disconnecting constantly and was unusable.
I unplugged it and twisted and bent the cord around just trying to see if anything would work... and it actually did help. I get a disconnect/reconnect once or twice an hour now. I need a new mouse, I'm giving it a couple days to see if a good sale or something comes along. Probably going to get the G400. |

| Lots of wired devices have this problem, headphones, lots of things. Usually means you have to open up the mouse and look at where the wire meets the mouse, one of the wires is usually disconnected and simply floating above its intended connection point without anything actually connecting it. |

| wire fraying unfortunately, try to rig it so there is as little tension as possible near where the wire goes in to the mouse |

| What above said. Im on my second MX518 as of a year ago. My first one i had for many years, untill it began loosing connection. Kinda anoying when i was playing HoN:D I found out it was where the cable goes into the mouse the problem was. I got my mouse open but couldnt fix it. I bought a new one after that. |

| I can honestly say that if it were me, I would bend the wire until i found out where the shortage was. Then from there I would just cut it at the shortage and rewire it. I did this with a few wired 360 controllers and a play and charge kits. they work fine, they just look a lil ghetto. |
