We'll be taking a break for a few weeks to figure out a new approach to develop the 2v2 community. Tournaments are a start, but clearly we need something else as well. If you have any input, please leave a comment!
Do you enjoy team games? Have you been looking for a 2v2 event on the NA server to participate in? Do you think team games are stupid and broken and want a chance to prove it by using that broken build you theorycrafted and keep posting about but somehow don't have any replays of? Then we have the tournament for you!
+ Show Spoiler [the goal for this tournament] +I'm Toboe and my 2v2 ally is DoubleReed. We're a master team on NA. You can find us both here on TL if you need to PM us. We were sad when z33k stopped their weekly 2v2 tournament, so we're trying to start up another one.
I think there should be more team game tournaments because they're downright fun. No one is trying to make 2v2 out to be the same level as 1v1 here. The goal for these events is to bring life to the team-game community because of how fun the games can be, and to worry about being serious and professional later.
When?
This tournament happens every Monday night at 5:30PM PDT[local]. The next Plat'n'Up 2v2 tournament, #22, will be held on September 17th, 2012 5:30PM PDT on the NA server.

Map makers, want your 2v2 map in the pool? Just pm me with a link to your map's thread on TL and how I can find it on the NA server!
Casters, we'll be streaming, but this is also an opportunity for other casters to get some live-team game experience. If you'd like to cast, please contact us with a sample of you in action and we'll add you to the list of official streamers for the event! Then you just hang out in the chatroom "2v2" on bnet and see if you can get into a game to cast.

Other than fame and prestige, not yet, unfortunately. This is kind of a trial run. We will be doing this weekly if this one is any success - i.e. if more than 16 teams sign up. We want to gauge the interest and amount of people who actually enjoy 2v2. Since there really aren't any other 2v2 tournaments going on in NA right now, hopefully we'll get some realistic numbers even though we don't have a prize purse yet.
We'll be doing more research on how to improve the tournament, and that includes handling prizes. We may set up some kind of community donation to make up a weekly prize pool (and we'll match the donations to a point). Or it could be a buy-in style where the highest placed teams which put a minimum amount of money in the pot get a portion of the pot. Or I could win the lottery and just fund the whole thing. Or we could get a sponsor (I think I put these in order of likeliness).
I'll put polls in the topic later to crowd source what we should do as far as prizes, casting, optimal time (maybe a different day or time slot), advertising, etc.

Thanks for showing the interest in any case. Your response made me think of a poll that should help see what reasons people who are interested in participating aren't for this particular one. I've added it to the topic under "When". It should also give us a head start on figuring out the optimal time for a weekly tournament. |

Hey man glad to see someone taking care of 2v2 scene.
unlikely the 2v2 scene isnt to well organised so its hard to reach the decent teams...
if you would like to get EU Teams in there as well you should think about another weekday or an earlier time, cause 2 am CET on weekdays is .... |

Yeah and from what I've seen the basis for 2v2s is generally larger in EU. I'm not sure how much I can do since I'm in NA. If I Moved the tournament to a time where a large percent of the teams are from EU (and I think the EU scene could definitely muster up more than the couple of teams that have signed up so far ), it wouldn't be logical to host it on NA. I'm also not quite in a position where I can buy extra accounts for other regions, so if the tournament were to be moved to the EU server there would have to be volunteer admins as well.
I'm not against the idea, but it would take some more planning

If the number of teams is more than 2 but fewer than 16, we may do group stages. Group stages will give more content to the audience and let the players have more losses before they're knocked out.
From my experience with z33k's 2v2 master weekly, at least 10 teams usually signed up in the last 48 hours. However, that was an established tournament that paid out. We'll have to see. |

Doing a tournament for just lower leagues is always hard because of league faking, which is especially possible in 2v2 since I'm sure people value an arranged 2v2 team ranking far less than their precious 1v1 ranking. So that leaves us with the option of expanding which leagues qualify for this tournament. But the reason I gave a cut-off was to create an easy goal to get people to play 2v2s and put a little effort into it. So for now I'm just going to encourage those teams that haven't made it into platinum to keep working at it
Finding arranged teams to play 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments is even harder. More people per team either means fewer teams or more possible schedule conflicts (or both). If you have have a 3's or 4's team, split up into some 2v2 teams and join this tournament. Once we see enough interest for team games through the 2v2 tournament, we'll see about doing 3v3/4v4 tournaments.

| I signed my teammate and myself up. Now I just have to talk to him and let him know about it lol. We're a high masters team #2 or 3 behind azide and superninja last season with 800+ points I believe. Looking forward to playing some other good teams. |
