| What exactly is the problem? Do other programs look the same? Could it be that one is a shortcut while the other is the actual browser? I have seen that happen before. It could be a setting on the taskbar. Last edit: 2012-04-15 13:47:58 |

| The problem is that the icons are the same but, when I press the left one it opens a new icon. Not keeping all of the icon as one. Last edit: 2012-04-15 13:53:23 |

Yeah, so the first one is just a shortcut, second is the actual running program. Do other programs do this as well or just chrome? Have you tried unpinning and repinning to the taskbar? |

| I have tried that method but it doesn't work. Other programs don't do this only chrome. |

| Try this: Unpin the old one, open chrome via menu, then repin the new running instance. Sometimes this helps because what happens is the shortcut (pinned icon) still works to start the program, but it connects to an old or outdated, slightly different version so Windows does not recognize it as the same app. Last edit: 2012-04-15 14:02:01 |

Either, just not from the taskbar where the icon was. |

I've had it happen. Here is what fixed it for me.
Open Chrome. You should now have two icons on the taskbar. Unpin the pin on the far left, which doesn't have the highlight around it. Right click on the other Chrome icon and pin that.
It's worked for me every time. I think it's because you're pinning a shortcut instead of the program.

Yeah, that is basically the same method. It should fix your issue. |

| When I pin the non short cut one, I only have chrome being one icon until I close it. Then it goes back to two Last edit: 2012-04-15 14:05:58 |

Make it easier on yourself then.
Unpin chrome completely. Open chrome, don't pin it, open it. Pin that. Close Chrome, pin should remain. |

Hmm...that is weird. Normally this fixes the issue. If it bothers you that much, then I would just reinstall chrome. This is normally caused by a slight variation in the Chrome .exe from what Windows wants to see. I don't know what else to tell you, that method normally works. |

close chrome, drag the chrome icon to the far right of the task bar, open chrome. I'm on w7 and this originally was the case with me, but this 'fixed' it. |

Damn, I didn't think to try that one either! LoL. Hopefully that will work. If it does, then try to drag it back to the position you want it. |

| I really don't see the problem here. It's not causing any issues, its just two icons in the taskbar. You can just get a shortcut on the desktop and double click it so that only one instance of the chrome icon appears on your taskbar |

| um, what's the problem? Starcraft does that on Windows 7, as well as itunes. One is for opening hte program, the other is the instance that you're in. This is designed and intentional. |
