Not everybody in Europe supports Obama or Ron Paul. So stop being so arrogant and pompous in claiming you know that America's problems can be simply solved by voting for either Obama or Paul. |

VOTE FOR RON PAUL! 3rd party ticket 2012!
While some of Paul's positions are quite good, other positions that he holds are simply too extreme. The legalization of hard drugs like heroin and cocaine is a very bad idea, and the abolishment of the Fed could have serious economic repercussions. On foreign policy, isolationism for a nation like the United States would simply not be prudent. Whether or not America's global presence is correct or not, an immediate abandonment of this presence would create power vacuums all over the world, which will lead to power struggles to replace the power vacuum and geopolitical unstability.
Rather than have Paul as President, where he would be expected to take care of all aspects of running America, I think it would be better to have him in as position such as a cabinet member, where he can focus on certain fields of policy in which he holds positions that are not extreme |

god this ron paul shit is so fucking annoying.
i'm well aware that he's relatively non corrupt, and he's an honest person in general. but seriously, as much as i like his foreign policy, his domestic and fiscal policies are so fucking stupid that i want to claw my eyes out. I want to vote for him, but no fucking federal income tax? no fafsa? i guess we shouldn't have computers either since it's definitely NOT mentioned in the constitution.
And giving states back all these rights (his somewhat proposed plan) is pretty stupid. We all know what some states would/have done with certain rights (i.e old deep south, present day arizona).
If he had less utopian domestic policies, i'd gladly vote RP. Good luck getting anything done with no taxes lol |

Oh my, mis-interpreted messages are really beginning to become a problem in today's society. So, stop being so arrogant and pompous in claiming that I claimed that Europe swore allegiance to Obama or Ron Paul.

Haha agreed, but have you heard Romney lately and how he plans to close down fed agencies and give them to the states? Imagine what Arizona will do with the Dept. of Housing lol. |

I see the rule number 3 posted by moderators. Keep the thread on topic. This is about Obama vs Romney in the US Presidential Election. Please avoid talking about people who will not be on the ballot in November. Talk about these people elsewhere.
As far as it goes right now there are 3 people still in the republican nomination race. Paul, Gingrich, and Romney. There is no way to know who would be on the ballot in November except for Obama (and even Obama could not be the democratic nominee) this is complete speculation.
Why is this even a rule in the thread? You cannot assume that we know the future when neither nomination has been locked in and won. I am confused on this.
I am not going to state my choice because my point would be nullified by the group who is against my choice. I want to get the point across that neither nomination is won in either party. I do not agree with rule number 3. |

I love half of Ron Paul and hate the other half.
I'm going to try to get a DNA sample from him, and then a DNA sample from Bernie Sanders, and try to create a human combination of the two once biotech gets that far. |

Another 4 years wasted proving that Americans haven't been abused enough. Evidently this country is going to have to completely collapse to wake people up.
Another election cycle I will be skipping as I refuse to waste my time voting for the same garbage. It doesn't matter who wins, both choices are going to result in the exact same thing. Until people realize that Dems and Repubs do not differ in any meaningful way, this country is doomed to continue spiraling down. |

Mitt Romney got a perfect score on his SAT and graduated with honors from Harvard Business and Harvard Law SIMULTANEOUSLY. He invested huge amounts of money in small companies like Staples, Domino's, Brookstone, Sealy, and Sports Authority. After he retired, Bain was struggling financially and begged him to come back and turn them around, which he did. He then made the scandal-plagued, debt-ridden over-budget 2002 Winter Olympic games the ONLY PROFITABLE WINTER GAMES IN HISTORY. He then took a huge budget deficit in Massachusetts and turned it into a surplus, all while managing the "Big Dig" scandal and making Massachusetts the first US state with universal healthcare. He has given a large percentage of his income to charity his entire life, not just once he began running for president, he was a Mormon bishop and oversaw a huge welfare program and interviewed and counseled people seeking financial assistance.
I always thought that Romney was a worthy, moderate conservative candidate. But his pandering to the dregs of the GOP base in the primary has really hurt his viability and image, and just reinforced the stigma of Republican's offering another puppet candidate.
The problem with the Republican party isn't their leaders, such as Romney or McCain, it's the party's current brand and their base. They have positioned themselves as the anti-tax, anti-welfare, anti-social services, anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-regulation, anti-environment, pro-rich, pro-Wall street, pro-oil, pro-Christian, pro-war party.
They are neither libertarians or fiscally conservative. They are a mess.
Governor Romney was not out-of-touch until the GOP molested him. Now he's a flip-flopping automaton.
The GOP needs a serious reboot, or all their candidates will seem out-of-touch. |

| Ok, the OP already looks much better (I don't know if a mod edited it or the original poster, but job well done). Could we still have some of the extremely biased anti-Obama comments in the OP (currently under "personal observations") removed? |

May I request that instead of (or in addition to) "unsure" we have a "3rd party/independent" option?
EDIT: nvm that is a different poll, probably too late to change it now anyway.Last edit: 2012-04-20 09:57:23 |

I've just finished redoing the OP. I redid all the polls to include a third option and to call Mitt Romney by his popular name. Sorry, just vote again. If there's anything you think should be in the OP, please let me know.
Please avoid discussing candidates who will not be on the ballot in November. This is a thread about the Presidential election then, in which Barack Obama and Mitt Romeny are the presumptive nominees. If something ridiculous happens to upend that consensus, well then I guess we'll have to make a new thread. If you still wish to discuss the republican nomination process, knock yourself out here. Unless Ron Paul enters the election as an independent, please don't derail this thread with your Austrian fanboyism.
Thank you. Last edit: 2012-04-20 10:01:56 |

Argh hit "unsure" by accident. -1 on unsure if voting, should be "yes".
^Thanks for the clarification, can we still discuss 3rd party candidates (ie Jill Stein of the Green Party) that will be on the ballot? Cheers.Last edit: 2012-04-20 10:03:10 |

You can say the same thing about Pinochet, who's the exact opposite ideologically speaking. Ideology is just a tool to support power, it has always been like that, in the age of monarchy they had all those priests telling the people that god appointed the king, now you have all these proffesors telling the public how good a welfare state is/neoliberalism and private property is. Power for the sake of power. |
