Yes. Only high school kids or freshmen in college think not participating is 'subversion'. Not voting 'out of principle' is a lazy person's way of justifying their bitching and moaning despite being to cowardly or impotent to do anything about it. If people actually gave a shit about politics, they'd at minimum protest or get involved in politics. Sitting on your ass simply makes it easier for the institutions you oppose to piss on your doorstep.
If you don't vote you lost your right to complain. I don't like either, so I am stepping out of the political scene for a few years. Thats fine with me.
I agree. Not voting gives you no right to speak against anything that is being done. If you want it done another way you should go out and vote. Find a candidate you can back.
How do you reason not voting = no complaining? What is different between the exact same words and arguments coming from someone who two years earlier checked a box and one who didn't?
Not voting directly ties to having no say in government affairs, as you gave up your right to decide who is in charge of the policy making.

Doesn't matter.. Politics is a useless institution which creates more problems than solutions. How about we make decisions based on scientific knowledge rather than some person's opinion which is influenced by corporations?

I'm jealous of you. In my opinion, Switzerland is the best country in Europe. No EU, high standard of living, democracy, freedom, neutrality, etc. I think the US government should definitely try to learn from Switzerland.
If you were to take a moment to compare the size and scope of the United States to Switzerland, you would realize just how absurd this statement is.

Everything is political. Even science. Somewhere in some lab there is loudmouth research trying to convince everyone else that his agenda supersedes all others.
Saying politics is useless is like saying math, art, science or design is useless. It defines culture and the world we experience. Unless you live in the forest with wolves, you're political. It's a non-sensical statement.
What you mean to say is government and politicians are useless. Which is also kind of silly.

What someone is prone to personally believe actually says a lot about the person. If I tell you I have a magical frog that lives in my drawer and helps me commune with God, you have the right to judge me on that. It says something about my sanity and/or intellect.

Speaking as somebody who was raised mormon, in Utah, I have to disagree. Core LDS beliefs are just as ridiculous as scientology or lord of the rings. Mormons are not a minority who need to be defended. |

Don't like either.. but the less harmful will be 4 more years. Voting Obama because I can't stand the idea of Rommney being pres. They both play to the money, but Obama at least gives more than Mitt's shrug of indifference when it comes to the poor. If you're rich you'll be okay, and if you're working class the government will make no difference.
Kind of annoyed with the republican party this election year. Seems like they brought out the B team. Watching the republican national convention was plain embarassing. If they brought out a moderate republican canidate with some visibility then it would be an easily taken election. What did we get? A freak show that seems to run like a shock jock radio show rather than a leader looking for the highest office. |

I don't see why Mormonism is any less ridiculous than any other religions. Christianity certainly has seemingly ridiculous aspects to it.
As long as it doesn't affect a person's ability to do their job (which from Romney's track record as governor of Mass it hasn't) then what is the problem? I could really care less if someone believe that everything was controlled by a magic sky fairy as long as he/she was competent. |
